He paused to see if she had any reaction. But she remained silent so he continued. “Needless to say, my agreement with Alex, insofar as it pertains to you, isn’t something that can be enforced in a court of law. There’s an old saying that an oral agreement isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. In fact, that isn’t always true but it certainly is in this case. I can’t force you to stay here.
