Chapter 1
In a distant warehouse away from the eyes of the people, Diego stands there, his gun pointed towards the man tied and all bruised up. Diego was standing there, his face devoid of any emotion as he stared blankly at the man before him.
“Honestly, I know nothing about the man. I have only had business with him once and nothing more.” The man pleaded, trying to beg for his life before the ruthless man standing before him.
“Tch, this is a f*****g waste of my time.” Diego hissed, the sound of his gun c*****g and the man shook his head in protest. “I'll ask you one last time, where is Theodore Lance?”
“I don't…”
Before he could finish his sentence, his head had been pierced by the bullet from Diego's gun and blood gushed out from the wound as he slumped. “Get rid of the rest. Get out and search for that man. He should be somewhere in this city.”
“Yes boss.”
Meanwhile, in another part of the city, Isabella just stepped into her apartment after working the overnight shift and the bags under her eyes were obvious from lack of sleep. She looked pale like she hadn't been eating well but it didn't seem to bother her like she was used to it. A sigh escaped her lips as she turned the keys to the door to open it.
Stepping into the apartment, she could tell someone was there, and turning her back, she saw the last person she wanted to see before seated on her sofa, a cigarette in his mouth as his head turned to look in her direction as he noticed her presence in the house. “Isabella.”
“What do you want, father?” She grumbled, for her arms across her chest while leaning against the doorframe with the last of the energy she had in her. She couldn't deal with him this early morning.
“Give me some money, Isabella.” He ordered, stretching out his hand as if ordering her to do so. Isabella stared at him for a few seconds before a scoff slipped from her lips.
“You can't be kidding me. Two days ago, you emptied my savings account and I had to starve for two good days because I could make something. Why do you make my life difficult everytime, father?” She screamed at the top of her lungs, trying to hold back the tears burning in her eyes.
“Do I look like I care, Isabella? Why should you have savings when you still have debts to pay? I used it for gambling okay? I was to get a million but the game wasn't favorable–”
“Oh spare me, Theodore Lance.” She screamed, grabbing her hair, tears already streaming down her face as she glared at her father. He had always made her life miserable. Ever since her mother died, he only grew worse and worse every single day.
All he did with his life was gamble and piled up debts for her to pay off. She could never shake him off her back no matter how hard she tried and she was always tied to his debt. Working four shifts a day was never enough and all he did was come to demand more money for alcohol and bets from her.
“Listen to me, young lady.” He thundered, grabbing her face harshly, his fingers digging into the flesh on her face. “There are a lot of men out there who would buy you if I decide to sell you. The least you could do as a thank you for bringing you into this world is to clean my tracks for me. Kai's men are after me already, so know how you'll clear the debts. You've cleared up the debt with Shark and Pail doesn't mean that's all to deal with.”
Without waiting for her response, he snatched her purse off her, grabbing the cash she had in it before walking out of the apartment. As she heard the door click shut, Isabella slid to her knees, bursting into tears. Everything she had been holding inside burst out through her fresh tears.
“How long will I keep doing this for?” She sobbed, covering her mouth as nausea hit her. Her breath came out in short bursts. It was all just too much.
Walking into the restaurant she was working in, Isabella was ready to start the day's shift when the continuous dings of the door bell made her look up to see some men in black walking into the restaurant. For a moment, her heart paused. They couldn't be after her for any reason right?
They didn't look like ordinary men, they looked like the Santiago men and she wasn't wrong. There was only an organization in this territory that had the lion's crest on any of their jewelry and that was the Santiagos.
“H-how may I help you?” She said as they stared at her. Or maybe they really were here for her as she had wished not.
“You're coming with us.” One of the men said, grabbing her roughly by the arm.
“Who are you guys? You can't just come in here to take my worker–” the manager immediately went quiet as he saw those who had come in to take her away. He could already imagine it was something wrong and she didn't do it.
“What's going on?” Isabella asked as she was shoved into the car roughly but no one answered her. This couldn't be happening. She could only think of one thing and that's the fact that her father had something wrong again and this time he didn't mess with simple loan sharks.
She didn't say a word as she sat between the two men who had dragged her in. She didn't know where they were taking her but from the looks of things, it was one of the secluded parts of the city.
The car came to a halt after what felt like an entirety. She was roughly shoved out of the car by the men. When she looked up, she was in front of a stunning mansion. It was huge and had a huge garden in front of it.
The house was huge enough from the outside and she could tell she could get lost in it. A sigh escaped her lips as she was reminded she wasn't here for sightseeing as she was dragged along. The last thing she wanted right now was another drama concerning her father and she was already used to dealing with it every week by now.
The men dragged her up the stairs, not minding if she got hurt at all. She knew she ought to be nervous by now because she was a cat walking into Santiago's den.
“We're here.” She heard one of the men say quietly before they stopped in front of two black huge double doors.
The men left her there before turning to leave her, making her turn around in confusion. What were they doing? She knew she couldn't escape no matter how she tried so she stood there, waiting for whatever their next move was.
The door in front of her was soon pushed open and she could see the other side was pitch black. But the darkness wasn't what sent chills down her entire spine, an ominous aura was coming from the other side of the door and it took all the strength she had in her to remain on her feet and not crash to the ground.
She knew she didn't have to be told twice before she stepped into the room and the doors behind her were shut and she stood alone in the dark room. She could tell someone was in the room but she couldn't see a thing from the entire darkness in the room.
“H-hello.” She muttered.
There was nothing and suddenly, her legs gave out, not able to stand the pressure in the room. Her heart thumped harshly against her chest and she felt like she would throw up any second.
As her line of view went back up, she could see a pair of hazel eyes staring down at her. It abnormally glowed in the dark as it glared down at her. Just by staring at it, she could see the darkness deep in those eyes.
It was Diego Santiago.
