He commanded attention, and she could tell half the women in this room fancied him, too bad, he was hers and hers alone. Her possessive thoughts frightened her. She was laying her claim, like a wolf did her mate. The height of emotions she felt was primal. When he was out of her line of sight She turned slightly in his direction so as not to miss him in the crowd and right now she knew he spoke to a woman. Too close. She was distracted, paying them too much attention that she missed out on what the vicar’. wife had been saying to the group and they looked at her like they expected a reply. “Your pardon, I didn’t quite get that” she smiled politely all the while trying to focus on the conversation, they were discussing something about the importance of attending Sunday service as a means to connect with neighbors. And the woman had asked if she would be available for service come Sunday, she vaguely replied in the positive all the while focused on the Duke and the mysterious woman She noticed when he grabbed the other woman’s arm and was looking down into her eyes. The woman didn’t seem scared, she nodded to something he said and then shrugged out of his hold. They were drawing stared and Artemis almost walked up to him to demand an explanation, then she shook herself and reminded herself that it was really none of her business, it almost killed her but she did it. she plastered a smile to her now pale face and welcomed the guests for the evening.
