Chapter Three

1179 Words
Emily P.O.V         I was leaning against the wall down the alley next to the ballroom when I heard it in my head again.         'He's here, our mate is here.'         After six years of wanting, waiting, wishing and hoping I finally heard it. My wolf. She finally spoke to me. I was catching my breath, hand my chest trying to calm myself down when I heard footsteps coming down the alley. I stood up straight about to go back to the party. I headed straight down the alley when a hand grabbed my wrist. My skin tingled and my wolf whimpered. It's him, its our mate. I looked up to see a tall man. He must've been almost six foot three with eyes as blue as the sea on a stormy day and dark hair.         I tried to free my wrist but his grasp was to strong for me to break. I lost my balance in doing so, not being used to high heels.  Just as I was about to hit the ground he wrapped his free arm around my waist catching me. I looked in to his eyes. They had darkened. He made sure I had regained my balance before releasing my waist. His grip on my wrist softened as well.         "You're Emily I assume, Emily Pearson?"         "What's it to you who I am? I asked with a rather snarky tone.         He smirked at me moving closer, his eyes never leaving mine. I stepped back each time he stepped towards me until there was no where left to go. My back stopped against the brick wall of the ballroom. He leant his hand on the wall next to my head, his other hand still holding onto my wrist, feeling my pulse. I was trapped.         "I like a woman with some fight in her, it makes things more interesting, more exciting."         "Who are you?" I asked refusing to show any sign of weakness.         "You don't know who I am? You really have been sheltered Emily." My wolf howled with joy hearing my name leave his lips.         "You didn't answer my question, I really don't know who you are."         "I'm Sam, your Alpha." I gulped when I heard that. My mate is the one person Chris warned me to stay away from. His eyes flicked down to my throat.         "I...I'm sorry. I wasn't raised in the pack and I couldn't see the ceremony." He chuckled as he finally took a step back, dropping his hand from the wall. My pulse instantly eased up a little.         "It's not your fault. I find it refreshing actually. Kyle told me you'll be living in the pack house with us from now on. I just wanted to introduce myself."         "The normal way to introduce yourself is with a handshake, not pinning someone to a wall!" I snapped at him.         "You're right Emily. I apologise. Hello, I'm Samuel Carson." He said offering his hand. Sam P.O.V         There she was. Right in front of me. My mate. The one person I'd been looking for for the last six years since I'd turned eighteen. I could tell her here and now. I really could. But she deserves better than to find out down an alley. Her wrist was still in my hand. I could feel her pulse. I could hear her heart pounding in her chest. I heard it slow down as I stepped back. I still held her wrist. I didn't want to let her go. I couldn't pull my gaze from hers. Her beautiful storm coloured eyes.         "I should probably go," I muttered hesitantly, "before Kyle comes looking for me. I don't want to get into trouble."         "Why would you get into trouble? Your the Alpha."         "That's true, but he told me to stay away from you because he sees you like a little sister."         "Really?! That surprises me."         "Why is that such a shock?"         "Today is the first time I've seen him since I was thirteen. He stopped coming when his father visited me. I always thought it was something to do with the fact that I never shifted." She said matter of factly.         "Y...you...you've never shifted?" I stuttered.         "No, I've never shifted."         "Have you heard your wolf?" She blushed and looked down, breaking our eye contact. I let go of her wrist and took her hand instead. "It's okay, lots of pack members haven't heard their wolf." I said softly, trying to comfort her. It didn't matter to me. She was still my mate.         "I know that's not true. I know the only others who can't shift in our pack are my grandparents and parents. It's something to do with our blood. I'll be cast out when everyone finds out." A tear slipped down her cheek. I cupped her face and brushed it away with my thumb. She leant into my touch. I slowly pulled her towards me, giving her a chance to pull away. She didn't. She buried her face in my shirt. She hesitantly wrapped her arms around me. My wolf howled with joy. 'She knows. She knows she's our mate.' We stood there for a few moments until she pulled away.         "You're under mine and Kyle's protection. No one will hurt you." Emily P.O.V         MY heart was racing and I knew he could hear it.         "You should go. It's your party after all, they'll be missing you." I whispered, pushing him away from me.         "Will you be alright?"         "I'll be fine. I have hope," I saw something flash in his eyes. Confusion maybe? "go, I'll come back in a bit. Go."         He left. I watched his retreating back and gave him a small smile when he looked back before he disappeared around the corner of the building. I stood there for a few minutes to calm down. My wolf was chastising me. 'Why did you send him back. What if that was our only chance? What if we never see him again.'         "Relax, as of today I live in the pack house, where he lives. We'll see each other again, don't worry." I headed back to the party, avoiding eye contact with everyone. I found an empty table in one corner and sat down with a glass of water. The party carried on through the night but I didn't move. No one came towards me. Every now and then I could feel his eyes watching me as he danced and drank. I avoided his gaze. It was two thirty in the morning before people started to leave.
