Chapter*2

Today was Lexi's 18th birthday. Ryan had turned 18 3 days ago and had been having a "fest" since. She had watched Ryan's eating habits change. He craved blood, and it seemed like he was eating it more and more each day. Lexi was really scared because even though her mother never came back, she stuck to using blood as a marinade and eating human food. She didn't want a stronger bloodlust. She sighed as she sat at the kitchen table doing school work as Ryan walked down with his buddies. His once beautiful blue eyes were now red "Ryan eyes." She muttered but knew he could hear her. As his buddies crowded around her "Aw look if it isn't the 18-year-old virgin." One guy named Frank remarked "Oh you mean today is the virgin's birthday?" Another stated, she thought his name was Steve but didn't really care. All the guys Ryan hung out with were pigs. They had a different flavor (girl) every week. She was finally saved as Mike came in with a smile. "Hey, birthday girl! Why so sad?" He asked as the crowd disappeared. She mouthed a thank you to Mike as he nodded and stood in the kitchen with them. "Um, nothing is wrong. I'm just going to go up to my room, not feeling too hot." Lexi said, grabbing her books and rushing up the stairs. Ryan went to speak, but his dad just stared at him. Once Lexi was in her room, she locked the door and sat on her bed, turning on her Spotify, playing "Vanilla Twilight by Owl City." Lexi pulled her weighted blanket on top of herself and was about to fall asleep when she heard yelling. Ryan was yelling and fussing with his parents. This was not the Ryan she knew or grew up with. She hated how much he had changed and talked to his parents and even her sometimes. Once the yelling got louder, she knew there was no luck in going to sleep, so she grabbed her laptop, sat up, and began opening her laptop. Once it was up, her heart sank. It was a photo of her background of her and Ryan when they were younger. She was on his back, and both had a huge smile on their faces. She thought back to that day and remembered it very well.** It was Ryan's 16th birthday, the year that they had a pool installed. Ryan and Lexi had been playing most of the day, and when Ryan had his friends over, they basically ignored her until Ryan offered her a piggyback ride, knowing she wouldn't turn it down. Vivian had taken the photo as soon as Lexi jumped on his back, and both were smiling until his friend Frank pushed them both into the pool. ** "Lexi!" She soon heard her name being called from downstairs and opened her door after locking her laptop and walked downstairs, "Yes, ma'am?" She said to Vivian, since that is, who yelled for her at Mike, and Vivian sighed, wishing she would call them mom and dad, but knew that was a big step. "Sweetie, there is a dress and shoes for you waiting in the main bathroom. All you have to do is your hair and make up." She said smiling as Lexi smiled back. "Thank you." She said softly, walking to them and hugging them "No go on and get dressed. We are going out to dinner." Mike said as Lexi nodded once more and headed to the main bathroom, which was on the first floor. Lexi went into the bathroom, took a quick shower, and put on the dress and shoes. The dress was a beautiful red color that shimmered in the light with a small slit on the side, and the shoes were just a pair of black heels with red bottoms. She had no idea what that meant but thought they looked rather good. She was almost done in the main bathroom, seeing her hair care items in the bathroom in her room along with her make-up. She walked out of the bathroom to see Ryan sitting in the living room. As he looked up, his eyes were a beautiful blue color and soon turned red, then back to blue, "Lexi-" was all she said as he got up and went outside. She looked confused but said nothing as she walked up to her room. She curled her long hair, which took about two hours and made her arm hurt, since her hair was up to her waist and she was about 5'9. She applied very light make-up, mainly just mascara, eyeliner on top and bottom, and a red lip to match the dress. Once she was done, she looked in the mirror and sighed once more. "Well, happy 18th birthday to me." She said sadly, touching a necklace she was given for her 16th birthday that had a photo of her mother and her inside. "Lexi, you okay?" Vivian said, knocking on her bedroom door even though it was open. "Oh yes, she is fine, mother! God, she's just getting all preppy since today is her big day." Ryan said sarcastically. Lexi stepped out as Vivian gasped. "Oh my wow." She said as Mike walked in."You look amazing." He said smiling, which allowed Lexi to take a deep breath."Thank you." She said happily. Ryan was standing in her doorway, his eyes changing to multiple colors as he leaned on the door frame." Well, you don't look bad." He said as she smiled, "Thanks, you're not dressed to go?" She asked as he rolled his eyes."I'm not going." He said as she looked shocked they always spent their birthdays together. "Ryan. " Vivian said, turning quickly as he slammed his bedroom door. Which has become a familiar sound since Ryan turned 18. Mike and Vivian walked out and down the stairs with sad expressions. "Ryan," Lexi said, knocking on his door. "GO AWAY!" He growled."No, open the door seriously." Lexi was trying to stay calm but really wanted to knock the door down. Ryan swung the door open. "What do you want, princess?" He said in a demeanor she had never witnessed.
