A Mate For Each Side

Midnight

Tonight should be grandiose and perfect according to miss gold digger Sherie, but I did not want to get on her bad side and get myself imprisoned on the day I wish to escape. I had finished all my duties early and decided to get myself ready for the occasion. I first got my bag ready, a few old t-shirts and leggings, some underwear that I could still wear. I made sure to secretly steal some food like protein bars, and two bottles of water. I put all my information in my bag, I had an out-of-date ID card, but I guess it will do to prove her identity. And other personal stuff. 

I walk out of the room with a flowy white dress that one of the omegas reluctantly gave me. It was nice, fitted me like a glove. It was not short nor too long, and it gave enough coverage to her body. She did not like to show off too much. After all, she always felt ugly. 

The invitees and pack crowded the area Dain would receive his new title, everyone was enjoying the backward ceremony. From partying to crowning, when it should be the other way around. Chatter head and there, I made sure to stay far away from everyone. 

"Hello dear, Since it is your birthday tonight, I will allow you a plate for dinner, but do not push your luck for the next meals" A feminine annoying noise filled my ears, of course, Luna Sherie here to destroy your ears. I could only smile and fake a grateful expression on my face. I swear if I had a second life looking down on me, I would probably puke at that moment. 

The party started, everyone dance and talked, getting to know the future alpha, some girls stayed and glued themselves to him trying to get on his good side. The party started fairly late, at about 10 p.m. Meaning an hour to dance, and then an hour to eat. The change will happen after midnight. I just hope I don't meet my mate then. I need to escape as soon as possible. 

"Hey guys look, it's the useless she-wolf. Heard from Mum that it was your birthday tonight. I hope you don't found your mate" Alec snickered. I wanted to laugh and replied that I to, wished I didn't meet him. I just turned my head and ignored him. Which seemed to annoy him since he pushed me on the cold floor harshly. "Don't look away from me, my brothers the future Alpha, I'm sure if I ask nicely, he will give you the worst punishment. Like.... banishment" Go on, I thought. I'm already running away tonight. I sneered, and it further worsen his anger as he grabbed my hair with one hand and backhanded me with the other; I will have a bruise by tomorrow. 

I don't know if they know who I am truly... And I barely know myself...but I know my parents were alphas, and strong, but I still wonder how did they get killed and by who. 

Three bells rang, and the invitees went to the buffet, served themselves to some of the food I` had prepared all day, and went to sit in their seats. They were all placed by rank and importance. The Bright Moon pack was on the right of the Future Alpha Dain, right next to it was the blood moon pack, etc. On his left, was an empty seat. I had heard that we had invited the Alpha of Alphas. The king of wolves. The merciless wolf. Juan Galanta.  I shudder at the thought. He would kill for anything, and she did not wish to cross his path at all. When everyone was served, I went to get myself a plate. It was very small as I did not want to take too much for myself, maybe I should, but I did not want to look like a pig. So I had enough to last me a full night of running. 

I quietly ate my meal, a full hour of eating and laughing was around her, it seemed that people kept eating and eating, and drinking. Us wolves couldn't easily get drunk, but if we were to add a tiny teeny bit of wolfsbane then everyone here would be drunk and on the floor. More than that and wolfsbane can kill you, it slowly kills your wolf till you feel nothing, you lose your healing abilities and you die. It can be used as a tranquilizer, but it all depends on how many doses you give.

Midnight soon came, and I decided to go inside so that I wouldn't have to found my mate to stop my plan, the mate bond from what I have been told is stronger than anything and you cannot stop it from getting you to someone... unless you reject them and they accept your rejection. I allowed myself a cold glass of water as midnight hit. "Happy birthday to me" I mumbled to myself. I sigh as I cleaned the glass of water and put it on the rack beside it. 

"wait... do you guys smell that?" A voice I know to well say.

"smell what?" A girl said, her voice a horrible high pitch sound that makes me wince every time I hear, she is probably one of Dain's wh*re. 

"that fruity and roses smell? You guys can't smell it?"  Dain said the voice was a little closer as the after sniffed the air like a mutt. 

"You found your mate," One of his friends said, he had already found his mate so he knew what the future Alpha was saying. " Come on guys, let's give the Alpha and his soon-to-be mate alone" His friend added. At least he sounded kind, well he was kind, he was perhaps the only one that had never hurt me, but he was always watching on the sideline. He was a bystander, not doing much but enough to be considered a bully too. 

I decided to walk away, not wanting to be seen and make a fool out of myself, but as I left the kitchen, the word 'mate' echoed in my head. Misty seemed to screamed and yelped in happiness as she repeated over and over Mate, and the smell of wood and pine trees filled my senses suddenly. I turned around, meeting the eyes of the person I least expected. My eyes widen, and I felt fear-stricken me. I. Did. Not. Want. Him. I will never want him. If he doesn't reject me, I will!

"Ilona? You? You are my mate?" he laughed as if this was a joke. "oh god, no ew. I don't want a worthless wolf as my mate. I, Dain Solon, Future Alpha of Mystic Pack, reject you, Ilona Athas, as my mate and luna" he said. I felt a slight sting, but it did not hurt as much as I thought it would have. 

"I, Ilona Athas, Daughter of Alpha Marcus of Silverbane Pack, accept your rejection as your mate and Luna" I immediately replied and turned around in rush, I should run, and I did. I went straight to my room.
