I was shocked at some of the things Mary was telling us. I never knew who Matilda was. I met her when I was a kid and I have gone to visit her a few times since I became Alpha. But I didn't know that she was the dragon queen's guard. I never saw her in her dragon form. My father had told me she was a dragon, but I didn't really believe it.
It does make more sense now. I could never understand why my father would keep a dragon hidden in our caves. The risk alone if she was found would be huge. Of course, my father could always lie and say he didn't know she was there. The caves were not high foot trafficking areas. Most people avoided them all together. Although that might have had something to do with all the stories people spread about the caves that kept everyone away. I
