Xander (POV)
Jazmine disappeared into her room. I felt her absence the moment her door clicked shut. I stood there staring at her closed door, unable to move. She was actually here. I found her. I found my mate.
"Now what do we do?" My wolf asked.
"I don't know. I always pictured meeting our mate going much differently."
"You can say that again." My wolf huffed.
I walked over to the oversize chair that was facing her bedroom door and flopped into it. I laid my head back and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath. I could still smell her scent lingering in the room. Her sweet smell helped to calm me.
I finally found my mate and I didn't have the slightest idea what to do next. She didn't have a clue who I was. She was human.
"Our mate will never be accepted," my wolf whimpered.
"She is my true mate and our packs Luna."
They don't have a choice. She is my mate, and I'm not rejecting her.
"Your father will never allow it."
"Well then, I'll have to step down from the pack. One of my brothers would be more than happy to step up and take my spot." Link would not be happy about me stepping down, but as the next in line, he would be the one to step up and take my spot.
"You know the dangers that would bring to the pack."
"I know. I don't plan to step down, that will be up to my father and if he accepts my mate or not. I will be given no other choice. I will not lose my mate again."
I have spent every second for the last six years thinking of nothing but her. At night her scent haunts my dreams. Reminding me of that horrible night.
**********
Six years earlier
"Xan, Vampires were spotted a few blocks away. We have to lead them out of the town. If a fight breaks out, they will slaughter them all." Link says, rushing through the door.
"Send a messenger to Alpha Dustin informing him that we will be leaving immediately. Let him know I will reach out to him as soon as we arrive home. The vampires will follow us. We will lead them out and attack once we cross the boarders." I tell Link, grabbing my bags, then headed out the door.
The ride out of town is quiet, but we know the vampires are following us. We have to wait until we cross the boarders. Alpha Dustin's pack has had enough devastation in the last few months. I will not be the cause of more loss for his pack. We will lead the vampires out of his borders before we attack. That will help ensure none of his people are injured or killed.
"The border is a mile away now. Should we continue on foot?" Link asked, watching out the car window.
"No wait until we cross the border. If they attack before we cross, Dustin will be forced to send warriors."
"Sir, two black trucks are following us. Do you want me to lose them?" Santiago asks, watching the rearview mirror.
"No let them follow us." I tell him.
If a fight is what they want, a fight is what they will get. My wolf was vibrating with excitement waiting to be released. It's been weeks since he has been out, and he is champing at the bit.
The vampires have been attacking packs for months. They go in and feed on the warriors, making it easy for the lyon troops to come in and wipe out the remaining warriors, and it's pack. The ones they don't kill they take with them. It's mostly women and children and the weaker men and humans because they are easier to control. If a warrior refuses to surrender, he is killed on the spot. In the last few months they have wiped out thousands of our warriors.
We have been called in to help with every attack, but every time we arrive, the vampires are gone without a trace. Our men can never find any sign of where they came from or how they left. Somehow, they are even able to disguise their smell. Every pack has said the same thing. They never smell any signs of vampires, even when they attack. Which makes me think they are working with witches.
The only way to know for sure is to ask them. And that is what I intend to do when I catch these assholes.
I know they have been waiting for me. Waiting for me to leave our pack borders so they could attack. All Alphas are strongest on their land. They think attacking me outside my border will give them an advantage.
I could feel my wolf smirking. "They don't call us the alpha of death for nothing."
"Well, let's show them who we are and what we can do."
Just a few more feet and we are over the border. I grab onto the door handle and ready myself to jump out the moment the front tires cross the border.
I watched intently out my window. Just one second then. "Go!" I yelled as I pushed my door open prepared to jump out. That's when it happened. A huge tracker trailer barreled right into the side of our SUV at full speed. The impact sent our SUV flying. We flew through the air about 50 feet before the SUV finally crashed into the ground and rolled another 20 feet.
The SUV was completely demolished and flipped over on it's side. My side was on the ground. I looked over and saw Link trying to pull himself out of the car. He was struggling to pull himself up. That's when I noticed all the blood. He was hurt.
I moved so that I could position myself better to help push him out. We needed to get out of the car before the vampires arrived.
"Santiago, Issac, Are you both okay?" I asked my two men who were in the front seat.
"Were okay, but my leg is stuck." Issac panted as he tried to pull it free.
"Link, grab on to the side. I'll help you out. We have to get out of the car and get out of here before the vampires catch up to us. You guys are in no shape to fight now." I said, as I lowered myself for link to use me to step on, to help him get out.
We were all able to make it out of the car just as the vampires were coming into view.
"s**t we have to go. They are here." I said as I grabbed Links arm and pulled him. "Shift into your wolf so he can heal you while you run. Hopefully, by the time they catch up to us, you will be healed enough to fight."
The vampires were running towards us like colorful blurs. They were closing in from every side. I pulled myself to the back of my mind and let my wolf take over.
"Finally." My wolf smiled as he shifted into his beast. He let out a growl that shook the earth and made the vampires stop in their tracks.
"What are you waiting for? Get him! Stick to the plan." One of the vampires yelled.
The bloodsuckers' words were able to pull them out of their trance. They were all charging at us again. I counted 30 of them. Give or take a few. I didn't wait for them to get to me. I took off running full speed right at them.
When my wolf got close enough, I leaped at the bloodsucker in the front. I landed on his shoulders and I ripped his head off. His body dropped to the ground. I didn't wait for it to fall before leaping onto the next one.
My wolf was lost in the fight, ripping anything that got near him to shreds. There was a reason my wolf was known as the Reaper.
