Richard Hunt closed the door of his Volkswagen and entered the towering skyscraper adorned with a prominent silver sign that read "HYBRID" at the topmost floor. Although he frequently passed by this building on his way to the gym, he had never ventured inside. "Good morning, I'm here to see Mr. Jack Brown," Richard announced to the secretary, who was dressed in a sleek black suit with a little tag on her desk written SECRETARY "Do you have an appointment with him?" the secretary inquired firmly. “Yeah, I do. My name is Richard Hunt”. replied Richard She looked at her system, her hands typing in quick succession. And in a minute she looks back at him “Sorry Mister Richard, I can't find your name in the scheduled appointment for today. "I can't allow you in without an appointment scheduled with my boss," the secretary spoke fiercely "I understand your job ethics, but this is urgent," Richard persisted, trying to convey the importance of his visit. "You can call him if you want," Richard suggested confidently, hoping to resolve the situation, but the secretary shook her head in disagreement. As the discussion persisted, Richard spotted a familiar face emerging from the elevator. He immediately recognized her and waved to catch her attention as she approached the secretary's desk. It was Lisa Brown, Mr. Jack Brown's younger daughter. "Hey Richard, good to see you," Lisa greeted warmly, her smile revealing dimples. "Why are you here?" she asked curiously. "I'm here to see your dad," Richard replied, relieved to see Lisa. "He's in a board meeting right now, but you can wait in my office until he's free to meet you," Lillian suggested with a friendly tone. Richard nodded in agreement, casting a triumphant glance at the receptionist. Together, they headed to the elevator to reach Lillian's office on the third floor. "Wow, I love the interior of your office," Richard remarked, admiring the marble floors and portraits on the wall. "Thank you very much. Please take a seat," Lisa said politely, gesturing towards a chair. "Can I offer you anything?" Lisa asked hospitably. "I'm good, thank you," Richard replied courteously. "Don't be so formal, you're part of the family now," Lisa remarked, taking her seat. Richard was struck by Lisa's kindness and professionalism. He couldn't help but contrast her with his own wife, Sophia, who had chosen not to work. Despite being unmarried, Lisa had proven herself as a capable leader within Hybrid Holdings, potentially becoming the rightful successor to her father's company. "How's Sophia? I hope she's doing okay," Lisa inquired. "Yeah, I guess," Richard replied, lacking enthusiasm. With a smile, she reached for the ringing office phone on her desk. “ Richard is here to see you” "Alright, I'll inform him," Lisa said pleasantly into the phone. "My dad is ready to see you. His office is on the first floor, first office on your left," she informed Richard. "Take the elevator; it's quicker," she added. Richard expressed his gratitude to Lisa for her warm reception and promptly left her office, making his way towards the elevator. Upon reaching the first floor, he felt a wave of nervous anticipation wash over him. Adjusting his tie to compose himself, he pushed open the office door and found himself face to face with Sir Jack Brown leaning on his office desk A tall figure, yellow fiery eyes, white beards. Dressed in a dark brown fitted suit with black leather shoes "Good to see you, Richard. How have you been?" Mr. Jack Brown greeted warmly, extending his hand for a handshake. "It's been what, days, weeks since we last met," Mr. Brown remarked rhetorically, observing Richard's demeanor. "I'm doing just fine. Honeymoon's over, so it's all work now," Jack replied with a forced smile. "Yeah, that's the spirit. Hope my daughter isn't giving you too much trouble. I know she could be difficult at times," Mr. Brown continued "Well, what can I say? It's one of the challenges of marriage," Richard responded, in a wry smile "Yeah, I got married when I was younger. All women are the same; you just have to find what works for your marriage and apply it," Mr. Brown shared his perspective. Richard scoffed in his heart, he couldn't comprehend why Mr. Jack Brown was discussing marriage dynamics as if he and his daughter were deeply in love before their arranged marriage. He had met Mr. Brown at a wedding gala and was subsequently offered the proposal to marry his daughter, with the promise of lucrative business deals to follow. As Richard stared at him, struggling to find the right words, he was at a loss for what to say next. “Anyway, let's get down to business. I have other matters to attend to," Mr. Jack Brown stated, cutting to the chase. "Here is a contract document for your company, the first of many to come. You can go through it and see for yourself," he added, tossing the document across the table for Richard to examine. Richard eagerly opened the document, flipping through the pages with intense concentration from start to finish, then repeating the process. "Oh my gosh, two billion dollars! This is huge, more than my company's worth," Richard exclaimed excitedly. "I'm incredibly grateful. Thank you, sir," he continued, overwhelmed by the magnitude of the opportunity. "You've fulfilled your part up until now, so I thought it was time to fulfill mine," Mr. Brown explained. "Please sign in the appropriate areas so we can get started as soon as possible. A contract of this magnitude requires no delay," he urged, gesturing to Richard to proceed with signing while he carefully reviewed every detail of the document to ensure nothing was overlooked. After Richard was done he tossed the document back to Mr Brown with a nod of gratitude. “Alright, my secretary will send you a soft copy of the document," Mr. Brown assured Richard, gesturing towards the large desktop screen in front of him. With this, Mr. Brown stood up from his chair, indicating that their conversation had come to an end. Richard also stood up, expressing his gratitude as he carefully tucked his copy of the contract document into his suitcase. "Also, keep all these between us. Remember, that was our initial agreement," Mr. Brown added discreetly. "Not a problem, sir," Richard replied, nodding in compliance, still savoring the significance of his new contract opportunity. This was the most significant moment of his life, and he was willing to play along for a few years to achieve his goals. What did he have to lose? Richard left Mr. Jack Brown's office amidst the stares of the older man, took the elevator down to the ground floor, and exited the building. He retrieved his phone from his suit pocket and dialed his secretary. “Hey, how are you? I hope you got my text message yesterday," Richard greeted warmly. "Yes, I did. Are you still in your meeting with him?" Miriam asked anxiously on the other end of the call. "I'll fill you in on everything," "Let's meet at the coffee shop near the gym house”. "Please be on time," he emphasized. Richard ended the call before Miriam could reply, feeling a rush of anticipation and determination as he looked forward to sharing the significant news with his secretary.
