CHAPTER 1 The windstrong pack was cozy that morning. Every family was inside their house enjoying the weather. Odessa was in her room talking with Lyra, who was scrolling through Odessa's childhood diary. " You still keep this silly dairy of yours. Trash this book, please" Lyra said. “ Why?” “ Because it doesn't make sense anymore.” “ It makes more sense now because Ryder is coming back for the Full moon festival” Odessa said, jumping and clapping happily. “ Odessa Liam! You've been obsessed with this guy for more than a decade now. Is he that special?” " Yes, and that's why I can't resist him." " You can't resist him? Not like he has asked you to be his mate". " He actually did". " In your dreams, or because your dead dad told you that your mate is from that pack and will be the Alpha of the pack by this year? " Yes!!!!. And I actually like him. He was so charming in those days and I believe he is more charming now. I can't wait for the Full moon festival " " Girl, you need to calm your nerves. Maybe your dad was doing fun matchmaking. Besides, you were just five then”. " Yes, we were little and just playmates. But now, I love this guy. I feel he is my mate already, and of course he is", She said and smiled, rolling her eyes. " What if he doesn't feel the same way for you ?" " Why won't he? Am I not beautiful enough to be his mate, and we've been friends for years now?" " Dessa, you are beautiful, no doubt, but let's just be realistic here. You can't even recognize this guy again; you are not sure if he is obsessed with you like you are, and he is a pack alpha. Do you think you are the only one feeling this way for him?" " Lyra, the most important thing here is that I love this man. We were friends before he traveled, we were good to each other, that's what my dad said and I will surely have him. Don't you get it? Your girl is deeply in love. " " Dessa, it's thirteen years since this guy traveled. Can't you get yourself out of this obsession already?" " Lyra, he is coming back for the Full Moon festival to finally take over the Alpha of the sunrise pack. We are going to meet after thirteen years and reconnect". " Like seriously? Lyra said, widening her eyes. I pray this doesn't turn out to be a heartbreak for you girls." "It won't, my dear girlfriend? She said, parading herself around the room, Lyra laughed. The windstrong pack and the sunset have been in a mutual relationship for over twenty-six years. The alpha of both the packs became best of friends after they fought together against the Moonlight pack. They made a promise to themselves not to break the bond of their friendship. “ From generations to generations, this friendship goes on” Odessa's grandfather declared. Odessa's father, Alpha Liam, vowed not to allow the friendship to end in his regime, even after both of the packs had a fight against themselves over a land dispute. He pleaded with the sunrise pack for a peaceful resolution. “ We've been brothers for ages” he said. “ We won't allow a mere land which our fathers both cultivated to put asunder to our long-run friendship. Odessa's mom always uses the story as a bedtime story for her and Lyra. She knew about Ryder, Odessa's fated mate. They made them grow together to strengthen the bond between them and the pack. “ Odessa!, Lyra!. It's school time” Ama, Odessa's mom shouted from her room. “ Thought we ain't going to school today Mom” Lyra cried out. “ You're not a baby anymore. I shouldn't remind you girls that it's time for school, and you should get ready” Lyra and Odessa grew up together since they were kids. They both spend the night at each other's houses. Lyra lost her mom when she was eight. She grew up with her dad and her stepmom, who practically treated her equally with her kids. But Lyra never liked her. She always had the mindset that all stepmothers are wicked. She chose to spend time at Odessa's house and sometimes spend the night there. Ama took like her child since she couldn't give Alpha Liam, her husband, another child. “ Our graduation is already in two months' time” Lyra said to Odessa, giving out a pretty smile. “ Let's go” Odessa said picking up her pack bag. “ We mustn't go with the packed bag, Dessa” she said, frowning her face. “ Every Alpha and Beta goes to school every day with their pack bag. We've been taking it to school since we got admission, so why are you tired? Oh, I forgot, you are always tired. Lazy Beta!!” Odessa running off the room. Lyra ran behind her. “ Can you stop running” she yelled. “ Catch me if you can” Odessa said, still running. “ Just wait for me“ Lyra pleaded. Odessa stood still, waiting for her. “ Ready! Three!!!, two!!, one!” Lyra shouted and they zoomed off. ****** The school was for Alpha’s and Beta’s. Lyra was admitted to the school under the influence of Odessa's father, Alpha Liam. “She is a Beta to my daughter, Alpha Odessa” he said. Lyra had to learn the Alpha and Beta languages and get used to the alpha voices. She never liked going to school. " Finally , I'll be graduating soon”. She said to herself, leaving a sigh of relief as she walked to the school refectory. She noticed a crowd at the side door of the refectory. Some boys were fighting. “ You should all go to your classes” a voice from the crowd ordered. That was a boy in a sky-blue suite. His hair was long and curly. Hanging softly on his shoulder. “ He is not a student “, Lyra thought. She turned to leave and noticed a drawing on his wrist. “ What sort of boy would have a drawing of a sun and a flower on his wrist? That's so girlish” she said, and still couldn't figure out the reason behind the drawing. She left for the refectory and sat to have her meal, when Odessa mind-linked her. “ Where the hell are you. I told you to wait for me” “ I'm at the refectory“ she answered through the mind-link. “ Get me some snacks. I won't be coming over” Lyra stood up and walked towards the counter. She took Odessa's order and set to leave when she bumped into someone. Her snacks fell on the floor and scattered into pieces. She bent to pick them and noticed the person's wrist. “ The guy with the Sun and flower drawing?” She murmured, widening her eyes. “ Excuse me sir, please be careful next time” she said, raising her head. “ You should be the one to be careful next time , Short girl ” Lyra furrowed her brows and widened her eyes. “ Don't call me that, Mr Sun wrist. At least, get yourself some little courtesy than drawing a sun and a flower on your wrist”. She hissed and was about to leave. He held her wrist so tight, looked straight in her eyes. His eyes turning to gold. “ I'm not scared of your eyes, Mr Sun wrist Alpha. I've met your kind at this school”. She freed her wrist and ran off. She met Odessa on her way out. “ What kept you so long? I was so hungry” “ You would have come over instead.” “ And why are you running?” They discussed as they headed to the lecture room. Lyra told her story with so much hatred on her face. “ He is so annoying.” “ But you noticed he is handsome” Odessa teased her. “ I shouldn't have told you the whole story” Lyra said as she hastened up her steps. “ Slow down, you can't walk fast while walking with me. I'm your Alpha and you should respect that.” “ And I'm your beta, you should respect that too” she said, hastening her steps more. “ I'm going home” Odessa said to gain her attention. She turned, still frowning her face. They both burst into laughter. Odessa knows that she doesn't like going to school. “ I want to get some clothes for the festival”, Odessa said. Lyra hissed and walked faster towards the class. She picked their bag and they headed home.
