TWENTY-EIGHT At first, when George told the priest they'd captured the unicorn, he'd been excited. Almost as eager as George to go back and get Melitta. But when George told him the tale of how he had trapped the beast, which was still alive, the priest's enthusiasm waned significantly. First, he had to see to his horse: make sure the beast was fed and brushed and tethered so that it could not escape. Then he needed to change out of his travelling clothes, for such dusty garments were disrespectful to wear when visiting such a holy site. Then, he needed to relieve himself, which took an inordinately long amount of time, at least in George's opinion.
