XII. A Good Day Dies

The rest of the week went by in a flash, and everything seemed fine. Zero's threat became a thought in the back of my mind and the Russian siblings adjusted to life in Woodson. I was still getting used to my powers, little by little I learned how to control my shifting and my magic. And it was shocking to realize how second nature it all was. It made me wonder if I had been ignorant all my life. But, I knew I shouldn't be so hard on myself.

When Monday had rolled around again, I didn't expect much, only a reading quiz in English and a history lecture on the 20th-century wars and conflicts.

"I know I shouldn't complain, but I am so done with school," I complained under my breath as we walked out of American History and we walked to lunch. "European history is just something else."

"So is American," Eros defended.

"Like the Russian history isn't a s**t show." Kenneth point out.

"Touché." Eros said.

"Well I'm Italian, I don't even know where to start with that one. "Abby said as we entered the cafeteria.

"Well, I'm British. I am pretty sure we caused a lot more damage. Empire and all." I mumbled as we entered the cafeteria.

"Hey, hottie."A guy called as we passed his table, we ignored him, "Hey, don't be that way." He swung his hand towards my but.

I turned at human speed and caught it before his hand made contact, "Keep your hand north of the Ecuador, jackass." I hissed and glared at the guy,

'Jane,' Eros voice said calmly in my head. In his head I saw the scene I was causing. The boys hand was getting red and his wrist was starting to cramp up. 'Calm down,' he murmured and I snapped out of my rage. I took a deep breath, as much as I wanted to hurt the boy, I pulled back and let go of his hand.

"Sorry," I say buntly. I make my way towards our usual table and I take a seat.

"Pigs."Qira muttered and I smirked.

"What did you do to him?" Robin asked as he came over.

"Why is his wrist bruised?" Luke asked sitting across Ken.

"He tried to slap her butt. " Eros said.

"Wow, and that's all you did? I would have expected a punch or at least blood or something like that. " Quill said also sitting down.

"I could tell you what she was planning to." Eros muttered and tilted his head in disbelife. I glared at him and he glared back.

'Thank you, by the way.'

'Any day, Janeane.'

I stuck my tongue out and he winked, "d**k," I say.

"It's a habit."He responded and I roll my eyes.

Luke and a human girl looked at us in confusion, "Mind reading." Qira clarifies.

"You're a mind reader?" Luke asked me as he and his friend sat down. "Sorry, this is Raine, my mate." He says, introducing her to us.

"You're human?" Eros asks.

"Yeah," she mubles, "Is it my sent?"

He shakes his head, "Thoughts." He says. "We can't read wolves."

"But we can read humans." I finish for him.

"Do it." She says excietedly.

"Think of a number between 1 and 1,000,000." I said and Eros drops his head.

'Seriously?!' He laughs, internally and externally.

"Shut up, Eros."

"What's his deal?" Luke asked.

"Nothing, nothing," he says.

"Okay,. . . Uhm ." She said as he thought.

"Done?" I asked.

"Yup." He said and I focused reading his thoughts, 1,983.

"One thousand, nine hundred and eighty-three. " Eros and I said simultaneously. He smiled as he rose his head up to high five me.

"Freaky." Luke awed.

"Hey, Robin," Linsey said as she sat down across me while her flanks sat between Eros and Qira.

"Hello, Linsey. What do you need?" Robin asked monotonously.

"I just came to see why the Ranks were sitting with the....vamps. " she said eyeing us.

"My sister can see you're envious of Janeane, I mean, Jane being so close to you're Alpha. "Eros says, but he shifts in his seat uncofotrably as he does.

"Eros, are you okay? You seem...off." I said, he had his head down and I could read how bad his head throbbed.

'I am still not used to animal blood. My endurance is not at it's best.'

"Oh," I say and rub his shoulder.

"Anyways, is not like you could be his mate, Bloodsucker." Linsey growled, and I look up at her.

"You'd be surprised. "I said calmly.

"Sure, and I can fly," she said sarcastically.

"Linsey, I would just leave if I were you," Qira said, noticing my temper.

"Or what, she can't hurt me, that would violate the treaty, but go ahead, I would like to kick your ass ." She hissed.

"Robin, repeat the treaty,"I said coolly.

"'As long as no harm comes to one another or a human, the treaty will remain and no dispute will come to us. If done unintentionally there shall be no punishment, is not unintended, we will be allowed to attack. An area of ten miles radius will be your territory as we have a ten-mile radius as well.'"

"s**t, she's going to go all law school on her," Kenneth said under his breath and it was true.

"I'm technically a wolf, therefore one of you, so the treaty won't be violated unless I remain in my wolf form, which I can turn into with ease. So like my friend said, 'I'd shut up if I were you'. " I said the last part so darkly, she whimpered.

Then her eyes shot wide open as she realized something, "Did you just Alpha tone me?"

"You still don't know, do you?"

"Know what?"

I look at Robin, why he hasn't told them I don't know. "I am the grandaughter of the late Alpha King."

"She is a Blackwood?" she asks Robin in disblief.

Robin nods and Quill, his delta, rubs his temples, "So, you are the ruler of how many kingdoms?"

"Two."

"And how many of them know you're alive?"

"None."

"And none will find out," Eros says, "Not untill after Zero is delt with. She is the most eminent threat and it will only make things more complicated if the wolves get involved."

"But the gene-" Lindsey starts.

"She already killed my father, I won't let any more wolves die for my family." I say. "I will deal with Zero on my own."

"I-I - I." She stuttered.

"There is a new creature in the school." Robin suddenly said.

The breeze hit me, "I can smell it." Eros said taking in the odd sent.

As we spoke, a tall black haired girl walked into the cafeteria and jaws dropped.

She was pretty, she had perfect hair and green eyes and perfect skin, god, I was reading the boys thought. Gross. Abby hissed at drooling Kenneth and elbowed him, "i***t. "He just looked at her apologetically.

I growled at Robin who quickly came back, "Sorry, the pack thoughts just overflowed me-"

"Sure." He smirked and took me into his arms so I practically sat on his lap.

The new girl walked over to us, "I know for a fact you guy are not normal," She scans me and smirks, "Hi, I'm Tamara Xolia. You probably already know what I am."

"Witch."I said still feeling a little defensive.

"You look familiar, where are you from?" Qira asked, trying to play it cool.

"I doubt we've met, but I moved here from Alberta, Canada."

"Didn't we all." Kenneth joked, our cover story stated we were from Canada, but I wasn't in the mood to laugh.

"And you. . .you aren't werewolves. What..."

"Vampires. "Eros spoke again.

"Treaty," I said knowing what her next question was.

"Mind readers?"Tamara asked pointing at us two.

"Yeah." Qira said and she eyed her brother again," he needs to hunt."

"I brought the thermos again. I'll go get it ." I said.

"Well I need to go to the bathroom, so I'll accompany you," Tamara said.

I walked to my locker and told Tamara the bathroom as I heard whatever conversation was going on in the cafeteria.

"I know her from somewhere." Qira continued to stress about it.

Eros sighed, "Well we've never really been out of Russia, so where do you-"

"It's her, oh my aura it's -tell Jane to get back here now." Qira gasped.

"Who-? Oh, gods." He said then thought directly to me,'Jane, Tamara is the daughter of Zero's Personal Witch. Get out of there now. '

'What do you mean personal witch? Why would a witch work for the Queen who killed the Grand Witch's sister?' I hiss at him as the bell rings.

'Not every creature is loyal to their monarch, Jane, many don't even know they exsist.'

'But-'

'Jane,' He snaps,'Just get to the cafeteria.'

I placed the jug in my backpack as students filled the halls. I walked back to the cafeteria and when I got to there, everyone was gone except for my family and the wolves.

"God, you're okay." Robin said as he hugged me.

"We need to get out of here, somewhere, anywhere but the school." I said as I pulled away, "Even if you said Zero was coming in a week, we need to be sure. Call Sara and Vincent, tell them to meet us at the pack's house. Robin, you need to get the wolves out of here, Tamara might go after them." I ordered as I run my hands through my hair.

Abby took out her phone and so did Robin.

"Eros, witches have an amount of strength, the strength is determined by the family and experience. What is Tamara's?" I asked as I ran a hand through my hair.

"She's strong, but you're stronger, you have magic born into you and vampirism gives you an unlimited source to tap into." Eros assured me, stopping my pace by placing his hands on my shoulders. A small rush of relief surged through me.

Then the intercom sounded, "Can the Dale siblings report to the office along with -woah. " the lady began to call the names of the entire pack. As we made our way to the office.

"Why is it that you're all going home all of the sudden?" The human administratornasked as the office filled up.

"I'll explain." Linsey said and she walked up to the desk, "Our legal t-tutor j-just send me a mess- message t-telling us s-she only has a month l-left t-t-to l-live. " she said as she sobbed and teared up.

They all followed along and the lady looked at us next, "And you?"

"M'am, we are all adopted, our family has a history of fatal diseases, do you really what to make us explain. " Abby stated, but looked like she was trying to be strong.

The administration looked like she didn't buy it, "Oh for crying out loud." Eros said quietly and pushed his sister forward.

Qira smiled and touched the scalp of the lady with the tips of her fingers. The lady's eyes went blank, and a wave of emotions ran through her. She smiled and cried a bit, "I'm so sorry, go, hurry." She said and unlocked the door with the button on the desk.

"What did you show her?" I asked.

"Nothing, I just manipulated her emotions." Qira said,"I brought to her eyes sadness. "

As we walked to the cars I spoke, "Go to the packed house, secure the humans in a safe area along with the kids. The rest of you, keep your eyes out for the witch. If you find her, take her down. "

"What does the witch want?" A guy asked.

"Me." I said. They all groaned.

"Why should we protect you?" Another male asked.

"If she dies, so will the last hope for the Wolf gene to regenerate. " Robin said and the shock became aparent."Oh shut it, and begin to show some respect. "

They all filled up the cars but some 6 didn't have a ride since they came running.

"No, ride with one of us," Eros said, and we all began to make our way to the pack house.

Anxiety kills, I'll tell you that.

.....damn, and my life was starting to seem normal.
