Chapter 1 Is Bai Kexin a Fake Heiress?
When Bai Kexin returned home, she was met with an unfamiliar scene—her mother was in tears, seemingly moved by something.
Imperial Capital, Bai Family Villa.
A plainly dressed but very well-behaved girl stood in the middle of the living room, her demeanor timid and hesitant. Holding a DNA test report, Mrs. Bai pulled the girl into her arms.
"My daughter, you really are my biological daughter!"
The girl carefully pushed her away. "This is the paternity report. If you don’t believe it, you can run another test—I’ll cooperate!"
Zhang Yi was afraid they wouldn’t believe her, but this was a result issued by the testing center—there was no mistake. She was the Bai family’s true heiress, a wealthy socialite! She knew someone was standing behind her—the current Bai family’s daughter, an impostor who had stolen her identity for twenty years.
It was time to take it back.
Zhang Yi had shown up a week ago. Her adoptive father, terminally ill with cancer and not wanting to burden her any longer, had revealed the truth—she had been swapped at the hospital. She was the real Bai family heiress; the current one was fake.
When Zhang Yi arrived, Mrs. Bai barely needed any confirmation. She immediately felt a mother-daughter connection and had already believed it all.
As for her current daughter, she had long been dissatisfied with her but had held back because she thought she was her own flesh and blood.
If neither can stand the other, it’s better not to see each other at all.
Turns out, she wasn’t her daughter at all.
However, her husband, Bai Wei, still wanted to conduct another paternity test for final confirmation.
Now, the report was in Zhang Yi’s hands. When the evidence was laid out before them, the Bai family realized that Bai Kexin bore no resemblance to them, while Bai Qianqian (Zhang Yi) shared some of their features.
Mr. Bai took the report and saw the words "99.99%, confirmed biological relationship." Finally, he believed it.
Mrs. Bai pulled Zhang Yi into a tight embrace, tears streaming down her face. "My daughter, you really are my daughter! My poor child, you’ve suffered so much."
Zhang Yi’s heart was practically singing with joy. She couldn’t believe she had been recognized by the Bai family just like that!
"Are… are you really my parents?" Her voice trembled, her words cautious.
From today onward, she would be the Bai family’s heiress, with a fortune worth hundreds of millions. No more suffering for her!
"Yes, we are your parents. My dear child, you’ve suffered all these years!" Mrs. Bai hugged her tightly, as if afraid she might disappear.
Bai Wei was also heartbroken. All these years, he had felt that Bai Kexin was distant from him—now he knew why. She wasn’t his biological daughter. Everything made sense now.
"Mom, I’ve finally found you! You have no idea how I’ve lived all these years!" Zhang Yi began tearfully recounting her hardships.
But inside, she was overjoyed. Zhang Dad really didn’t lie to me—I really am the Bai family’s true heiress!
"My dear, you’ve suffered so much. It’s good that you’re home now, so good!" Mrs. Bai was beyond excited. This was her real daughter! Bai Kexin had never hugged them so intimately.
"Dad…"
Once she took the first step, her courage grew.
"Welcome home, my dear. I’ll call your brother back soon." Bai Wei was also moved. This was the kind of daughter worthy of the Bai family.
Zhang Yi nodded, but then she remembered—there was still another daughter in the Bai family. That must be Zhang Dad’s child.
"What about Miss Bai…?"
That woman better be kicked out. I’m the only Bai family daughter now!
That title "Miss Bai" should belong to her now. That impostor should go back to the countryside, back to that shabby family!
"You are the only Miss Bai in this family, the only heiress. As for that fake, once she comes back, I’ll drive her out immediately. Her room—I’ll expand it for you, decorate it like a princess’s suite. How does that sound?"
Bai Wei couldn’t wait to kick the impostor out. To think we raised someone else’s child for twenty years! The very thought infuriated him.
Bai Kexin stood behind them, watching their happy reunion with complete indifference.
She cleared her throat lightly and walked in.
"Dad, Mom, I’m back." She greeted them one by one.
She didn’t seem to care about the paternity report. Whoever I am, it doesn’t matter. Being part of the Bai family or not—it’s all the same.
Bai Wei’s face turned cold. "I’m not your dad. Your real father has cancer. You should hurry back to him—maybe you’ll catch his last moments."
Now that they had found their real daughter, this fake one had no right to stay.
"Dad, what do you mean?" Bai Kexin pretended not to understand.
"You’re not my daughter. Can’t you understand? Your real father is some poor nobody. He kept me and my daughter apart for twenty years. From now on, you don’t deserve to live in this house. Pack your things and leave immediately!" Bai Wei said coldly.
A poor girl, playing the role of our family’s young mistress for twenty years! If she dares take even a single thing from this house, I’ll make sure she regrets it!
"And leave your cards here. Who knows if you’d use the money for that deadbeat father of yours?" Mrs. Bai sneered.
My real daughter suffered for twenty years, while this impostor lived in luxury! How unfair!
No wonder she never liked this daughter. Without blood ties, how could she ever feel affection?
Get out, get out! A lowly country bumpkin has no place in our elite family!
"You can only take two sets of clothes. The rest—I’d rather donate them than let you take a single thread. You don’t deserve them!" Mrs. Bai added.
By now, Bai Kexin understood completely.
They were saying she wasn’t part of the Bai family. They had raised her for twenty years, but now that the real Bai daughter was back, they were kicking her out.
The "switched at birth" trope actually happened to me. How amusing.
Strangely, she accepted it almost immediately.
Though she didn’t have deep feelings for the Bai family, they had raised her for twenty years, caring for her since childhood.
And now, just because of "not blood-related," everything was erased?
"Dad, Mom, isn’t this too cruel? Kexin is still part of our family. Sending her back to her biological parents now is practically pushing her to her death!"
Bai Hanyu had just stepped through the door, his expression grim. He glanced at Zhang Yi, feeling no fondness for this so-called sister.
A sudden "real sister" appears, and now they want to kick Kexin out? Since when did my parents become so heartless?
Besides, despite her young age, Kexin had a sharp business mind. Many of the Bai family’s deals had been secured thanks to her.
Kicking her out now… Wasn’t that ungrateful? And what about the future?
"What nonsense are you spouting? Your real sister suffered for years—shouldn’t Bai Kexin taste some of that hardship too? This family is run by me and your father. You don’t get a say—shut your mouth!" Mrs. Bai snapped at her son.
She had always suspected her son had unusual feelings for Bai Kexin. Now that they knew she wasn’t his real sister, they needed to keep their distance. Her son must not show kindness to some poor girl!
"Mom—"
"Enough. I’ll leave." Bai Kexin’s voice was icy.
Since the Bai family had found their real daughter, she had no reason to stay.
As long as no one causes trouble in the future, we can coexist peacefully.
She went upstairs, packed only two everyday outfits, then came back down and opened her suitcase.
"You can check. If there’s no issue, I’ll leave now."
She had noticed Zhang Yi’s disdain. Rather than waiting for her to demand an inspection, she took the initiative.
Mrs. Bai had the housekeeper search the suitcase thoroughly. Only after finding nothing did they let her go.
Zhang Yi could hardly believe it.
From now on… I’m really the Bai family’s heiress? No more returning to that wretched countryside?!
