Lenard’s POV
I cannot find the timing on how to tell Sophie about her enrollment. I don't want to upset her because she will surely walk out on me if I do. But honestly, I have no idea where to take her.
In the car, I pretended to ask what she wanted first. “Do you have some place in mind where we can go and spend the day?” I started. She rubbed her head in confusion.
“You see, I have plans on where to take you, but I want to consider your preference first. I want you to take me to a place where you know will be more enjoyable, comfortable with you, or something like that. Just a place where we can spend the day. I don't want to go home yet, and sure you do, because we both know that dad is there.” I was too quick to explain.
“Oh, is that it? I have some places, but I am not sure if you will appreciate them. However, since you are allowing me to decide for us today, then take me shopping. I want something from Hermes and Louis Vuitton.”
“What?” I think I was too late to refute. I am someone who's so bored when shopping, especially with women. My goodness!
Sophie’s POV
I know that Lenard hates going shopping the most, but it is what I want to do. At least there I could spend a lot of time there. “Do you have a problem with that? I thought you let me decide where to go and you said that you want to consider my preferences. So, we are going shopping. Besides, you have to make up with me because you haven't spent a penny on me over the past two years.” I snapped my finger on him while he was driving. This time I think I won because he didn't disagree anymore, just rubbed his head and went on driving.
“And after shopping, what are we going to do?” He asked after a few more minutes so I smirked.
“Do you seriously want me to decide on the next thing to do?” That challenged him. This time I noticed that his expression suddenly fainted. “Yep, I am allowing you, but you should choose somewhere we can relax.” His tone is now an order. It made me laugh out loud before I suggested.
“I know that you missed the bars here in Toronto, so I am suggesting that we go to a bar after shopping. That is your call, already.”
He finally smiled after hearing me. Of course, I know him, and I am sure that his preferences in relaxation haven’t changed yet.
I wondered when he suddenly pulled over, but it was too late before I questioned him. “Why aren't you in your seat belt?” He asked before taking his seat and pulling the seat belt for me, I was shocked and quickly turned to him. Our lips met and I seemed to stiffen in my seat because of the shock!
Even Lenard felt stunned, we stayed in that position for a few more seconds before he recovered. "Oh, I'm sorry." That's all he said but I couldn't say anything because I felt that first snap kiss. The softness!
After that no one spoke between us until we reached the mall. I was shocked and seemed shy, but happiness still prevailed in my heart because of the first kiss from the man I love the most. I chose not to speak first because I don't know what to say. Maybe when we get to the Louis Vuitton store, I will ask him if what I chose is okay. Maybe through that we could go back to a casual conversation and forget the quick kiss that happened between us. I don't know how he feels about it, if he likes it too or if it doesn't matter to him. But I noticed that he seemed anxious since then, so maybe that kiss also influenced him.
After we shopped for my bag at Louis Vuitton and Hermes, he asked me to shop for his new clothes because he said most of his clothes were clothes from warm places because he was from Singapore. It's December here in Canada and it's winter.
It was five o'clock in the afternoon when we finished shopping, so he asked to eat, but I told him that we should go to the Bar Chef after we ate there, so he could have a drink. Even though I look wild and hard to control, I'm not that good when it comes to Bars and night life. It's okay to drink when I go out with my friends, but I don't invest time in entertaining myself with drinks.
“Bar Chef?” Lenard frowned when he asked, obviously he didn't like what he heard from me. But I just smiled, it seems like a lot of nonsense for me to explain myself to him. What does he think?
"Excuse me, huh? Maybe you're thinking differently. I'm not going there to look for a rich old man, am I? Do you think that in your conversations with Dad, including the people I meet at your events I didn't hear that bar chef? I guess that's your favorite place here. Oh fine, if that's not what you want to go to, say something else, I'm leading you because I also know that's where you want to go. Did you mistake me for something?" I grumbled a litany to him.
“Oh.” He took a deep breath but didn't answer. I noticed that he secretly smiled, and I don't know what that means but I smiled too.
"I didn't say anything but you're right we're going there because it's quieter there. I just want to relax, and I miss Toronto, think about it, I haven't been home here for 2 years and my life in Singapore is very different in life here. Just come with me, at least Dad maybe already asleep when we get home. You don't have to explain to him again when he asks you about business college..." He quickly looked at me before continued again. "Oppps... Don't be mad at me for opening about this, huh? It doesn't mean anything else." He explained quickly which made me smile. Lenard knows very well what I don't want, and he obviously does everything he can to avoid us talking about it.
“I don't know why he seemed to be so far away when it comes to my career path. He doesn't need to put me into business because you are already there. You will take good care of the family’s business, right? Also, Mexie is obvious that she is interested in business, so you'd better train her instead of me. Couldn't you see that I took off after Mom? I am more than art, so just let me be.” I found the right timing to talk about my dilemmas about dots decisioning in my life. Although I argue with him a lot about it. I honestly feel bad every time I am alone thinking that my life seems to be in a box where Dad controls it.
“Well, of course, as much as I want to understand you, I also give half of that understanding to God, because he has a point. Try to think of it. What would happen to your life if you chose that kind of career path in the arts? I am not belittling Mom's success when it comes to her novel writing, because she had already proven herself more than the limit, she should just prove herself to Dad but you, you are your father’s child. You and Mom are two different individuals in Dad's life.”
While talking with Lenard, I didn't notice that we had already arrived at our reservation. We settled ourselves, but we still went on with the conversation about me.
“I understand what you mean, Lenard. But what confuses me is why is it so hard for Dad to accept my decision? I mean, I want a life on my own. There is. You and Mexie. As I have said earlier, it doesn't need to involve all of us in the business, right? Besides, the day will come that the positions will be a competition and I don't want that to happen. I really don't see myself in that kind of position.”
“We will never compete in any position, Sophie. Our families, businesses worldwide and we sure will all have our own scope in managing it. There will never be a competition, so don't use that as an excuse, OK?”
“Sorry for that word but let us consider the future. All of us will have our own family. When the day comes, you will get married. I will and for sure Mexie will. Do you think our families will not bump into each other when the day comes that we have to divide the inheritance from our parents? That is including the management, the positions in the company most especially the CEO. You understand what I totally mean, Lenard. And I am definite that I don't want that kind of life I will never want, and I will never ever put myself in that position.”
“Come on Sophie, why are you so advanced? You are already talking about getting married. Why do you have plans of getting married?”
“Lenard, you know that that is not what I mean. Let us be open to every possibility here. What I just told you is not far from happening in the future. I love what I am doing right now, and I have no plans of changing it.”
I was firm with my answer. Same as what I told God. If he stops sending me to college just because of this, then I will accept it as the consequence of my decision.
“Look here, Sophie. What do you want to do by the way?”
“I want to finish a liberal art. There is a lot to do with that course. You already know that, but most of all I want to pursue a career in writing While I put up my own graphic designing company. There is a lot to do with that. Opportunities in this field are beyond imaginable. I also think that I could be of help with our company when I am already an expert in my own field.”
“Level up your dreams and life.”
“Are you belittling me, Lenard?!”
