Vanessa was blissfully wrapped in her blankets, enjoying the last few moments of sleep before the inevitable Monday grind, when she heard a soft knock at her bedroom door. Her mother’s familiar voice followed. "Vanessa, darling, wake up! Gabriel is here to drive you to work," her mom called out cheerfully. Vanessa’s eyes fluttered open, her brain foggy with sleep. "What?" she mumbled, half-convinced she was still dreaming. Her mom opened the door, peeking in with a smile. "You heard me. Gabriel is downstairs, chatting with your father.
