I've been waking up early for the past few days to make sure I got Jimmy and I's part turned in so we won't get in trouble.
As I was working in the field I look up to see everybody stopped working and was looking at something.
Following their eyes I see Karsyn with a bag over his shoulder as he walked into the field and towards me.
"Hey". He said smiling as I stared at him.
"What are you doing". I ask watching him bend down and start picking cotton.
"I got in trouble so my father said I'll be working out here for a few days". He said putting the cotton he picked into my bag but I pulled it away.
"No wont you have to have the same amount as everyone". I ask and he nods.
"Well I don't want what you pick". I said and he stared at me.
"Okay". I said and he stood up walking away.
"W-what are you doing". I ask as he starts walking backwards looking at me with a smile before stopping at an older lady named Coffey. He talked to her before taking her bag and started to pick cotton and put it in there.
|2 hours later|
Look up I see Karsyn walking back over with a smile on his face.
"What ya smilin' fa". I ask as he started picking cotton beside me.
"I just finished her bag now she can go home and rest". He said causing me to smile.
"That was very nice of ya". I said finishing up Jimmy's bag and starting on Mines.
We talked as we worked I heard people talking.
"You ain't gone greet your big brother". I heard from behind me.
"JIMMY!". I yelled jumping on him.
"I missed you". I said getting down and looking up at him.
"I missed you too". He said smiling down at me.
"How's granny". He asked as I looked at him.
"She's been in the house since you been shot". I said and he nodded before looking behind me.
"What you doing boy you poking fun at us". Jimmy asked Karsyn who looked up from working.
"No, no absolutely not".He said shaking his head.
"I got in trouble so I have to work the field a few days". He said and Jimmy nodded.
"Where's my bag". Jimmy asked as and I held up his full bag.
"Well give me your bag". He said trying to put some cotton in it but I moved it.
"No you just got back you should be resting". I said and he nodded.
"Only this one time". He said before kissing my forehead before walking away.
"I thought he was going to wack me". Karsyn said causing us to laugh.
"He just tries to look out for the people he's harmless". I said as I started to work again.
"Where do you see yourself when you get older". He asked looking over at me.
"No where there ain't much I can do what about you".I said with a shrug.
"I want to become president and end s*****y". He said causing me to laugh.
"What's funny". He asked looking at me with his face scrunched up.
"Good luck with that it's not going to happen". I said and he shook his head.
"How can I fight for people that aren't willing to fight for themselves I'm done here". He said snatching his bag up and walking away.
"KARSYN". I yelled but he kept walking.
Sighing I get back to work so I can be home before dark.

Sitting around the table I couldn't shake what Karsyn said.
"You okay child". Granny asked placing my plate in front of me.
"Yes ma'am just thinking". I said as Jimmy took a seat at the table.
"About what". He asked as he started eating.
"Well in the field Karsyn asked where I saw myself when I got older and I told him there wasn't much for me and I asked him the same question". I said and Jimmy nodded.
"Okay and what did he say". He asked looking over at me.
"He said he wanted to become president and end s*****y and I laughed at him and he got mad and said how can he fight for people that won't fight for themselves". I said and he stopped chewing.
"What y'all over hea talking about". Granny said taking a seat at the table.
"Nothing". I said as I started eating.
Pushing my food around the plate I watch as Geanny and Jimmy talked but my mind was still stuck on Karsyn.
Maybe he can be the one to free us...
