******* Red's POV ******* Taking the next step into the first inner layer of the vehicles, I there are some down, all of them in their own blood. I look back to see Jay still watching. I check around again and this time lower I head to the next layer. There I see one wounded and still alive, he opens his eyes just about to get ready to yell. I hit him in the head with the butt of one of the Eagles. Double checking no one else was around I see about eight guys huddled behind the last few cars. I can't see Jay but I know he is watching I can feel it. Studying the area around them and I, forming plan of attack. Not long after the plan was created I launch into action. getting close to the car they are hiding behind I peer into the side mirror on their side. Yes eight, two wounded on the ground and six with weapons. Always assuming they are loaded I go for my plan. Going to the back of the car I slide down under it. Popping in next to them the best idea. They have no weapons nor can they move fast. Easy kills in my book. Just as my head pops in I start firing getting three in quick succession. I elbow one of the wounded as he tried to grab on to me. Realizing he cut my forearm with a blade I put a bullet in him. The other scattered, I hear gun fire Knowing the others are shooting so likely at least one is down. The other wounded one wide eyed with fear and young, likely in his teens. As I crouch next to him I hear someone holler just before I am tackled. Both Eagles drop from my hands I make a fist and land it into my attacker's head. He falls like jelly, I had been condition my fists since a little boy as I was often in fights. I get up grab the Eagles, don't think twice I make sure he stays down. Another runs at me grabbing one of my Eagles. Pulling the trigger, it rocks back and hits the nose of the man who took it from me. Down he goes dropping the Eagle and holding his nose. Picking it back up I notice a new pain in my arm. Checking it out I was nicked by one of my own bullets. A sinister smile plays on my lips, I see the final guy, hiding with what looks like a gun. Just as I was about to reach over and grab him I hear my rifle sing and watch him drop. "Well damn," I thought. Turning back to the wounded kid I look around and call out "clear!" I stood up to look around, I seen Jay come around the Scout, the closest building I watched Ben and Justin come out. The mobile trailer near the security booth Frank and his wife Debbie popped out. Near the corner closer to the houses I seen a few more but at their distance I couldn't make it out until they got closer. Mike, and the tow truck guy called Hooker. I grabbed the wounded kid and hauled him up. Everyone, eyeballed the kid. "He is harmless for now. But I got a hunch they will be wanting him back." I dragged him with ease, toward the Scout. throwing him in there I closed the door making sure I locked it. "This is the scum from the city?" I heard Frank spat. "Yep, not sure why they came out this way but there must be a reason." I shrugged. "Not their smartest move." Jay handed my rifle back to me. "Well that's the truth. Anyone gone to the school?" Justin asked. "Yes, I gathered up what I could find. Ruthann among them." I let him know his woman was safe. "They were headed up to my ranch." Justin smiled and nodded. "Thank you." I nodded to him, just as I thought to glance at the kid in the Scout "Holy s**t!" I yelled, as I went to unlock the door, I caught a glimpse of a shadow being above the kid. The red eyes glanced at me and the shot out the shattered side window. I couldn't crawl in the truck fast enough. I looked at the kid, his eyes were glazed, blood all over the back of the Scout. "What the hell was that!" I heard Jay yell. "I got no idea.." I answered. My first thought was Lia. Sliding out of the Scout, I dragged the kids body out and put it on the ground. "Jay, you need to go to my ranch. Ask Lia for ammo, some snacks," feeling my arm for the first time. " A med kit too." "Why me?" Jay asked. "Something says I need to be here." I turned looking at the town. ********* Lada's POV ********** I knew what had appeared in town one of the elder Draconian monsters had sent a shadow demon. I could not make it to the town before it got away. That meant they were on a mission to find more magic beings. They realized they had missed some. Likely how important they are now. I was gonna need more help, until Accalia was ready she was no match for those assassins. There was one in this place I had found a friend. She was old, but her power strong and her mind sharp. She would know how to protect Accalia, this woman was a follower of Leto and a wolf walker. Mariana would know how to help. I stood out front of her gate. I sat and howled my presence. Spirit dogs appeared at the gate to her place several on each side. All looked at me judging my reasons for being here. Their spirit taking corporeal form. Catahoula, a few mixes and Plott hound stared at me. "What is it you want with our human?" I heard the Plott hound ask. "I need a direction for Accalia, Shadow assassins have appeared in town." I sat on my hunches to emphasis on my non threat to her. For animals to protect even like this meant great power laid in this woman. A direct descendant of Leto her blood was much like the demigods that hid in plain sight. The reason she was still alive after 100 years, spry enough to ride horses and change to wolf. "You may enter," The hound nodded. The black Catahoula I noticed was watching me with her luminescent amber eyes. "Be on your best behavior." She raised her lips to me. I lowered my head to her, and continued forward slow and steady. Walking up the pathway I found an in-ground home, much like a hobbit home of a sort. There I sat at the door, taking a paw I scratched at it. I could smell wonderful things inside. Baked bread, meat of all sorts, and sugar made into wonderous things.
