Race You Home

I heard the engine outside stop, I seen Chief come trotting in to go straight to Warrior and the mare. Odd I thought, just as I caught a familiar smell. Turning in time to see my husband wrap his tree trunk size arms around me, pulling me into his chest while slamming his lips down on mine. A shot of electricity went right to my toes then back up to my rest in my belly. "Hahahaha" I heard Stan chuckle. "I know the feeling." the wistfulness of his words brought me to the realization my man was here. Reluctantly pulling back from the kiss "Thank you." I whispered and kissed him again. I knew it had to be him that put that wolf down behind me. He reaction told me everything I needed to know. Kissing him again, the warmth of his embrace tickled every nerve in my skin. After that kiss we pulled apart to finish helping with the clean up. Mackie was transported to the University hospital, for her injuries, The paint mare was taken the local veterinary hospital. The red wolf was skinned and the bodies of the Skinwalker and its copy were left on the ridge just below the ruins for a sky burial. Stan just before taking off with Mackie looked at both of us, "Lia, Red, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I owe you guys." Stan gave a sturdy shake of hands with Red, then came to me with a quick hug. Then he was gone. I looked up at Red, his nickname given because of his red hair. He was scuffy, bold and a bit of a devil but he loved me, that I was sure. "How did you know?" I had to ask. He chuckled bringing me close, "Stan called to ask for my help. Told me you had likely headed out, so I drove here from the main road. On that hill to the south I used the scope of the rifle I keep in the truck. When I was looking in the ruins I seen you and then that damn thing." Nodding to the dead wolf. You could hear the worried growl in his voice. "Seeing it charge you, and you not reacting, I put it down. Had me damn worried woman." He gruffed pulling me to him again for another kiss. Once we peeled ourselves away from each other, the sun was getting lower. I needed to feed and check on the other horses. "We need to get back." I looked to Warrior, who walked toward me. "Just as well. I will meet you at the barn." Another quick kiss and he headed back to the International Scout he drove everywhere. I swung my leg over Warrior. Ducked under the entrance and hollered "Race you home!" I legged Warrior forward at a gallop, laughing. ************ Red's POV ************ The woman before me, was a mix of fire, mystery and charm. Everything about her turned me on. The way she walked, talked and even the stupid look of shock on her face when I laid the wolf down. The look in her grey eyes, as she said "Thank you." Looking through that scope and seeing that massive monster barely a few feet away when I pulled the trigger. The worry that creeps into your soul when you know you may loose that one thing that makes your heart pump faster. This woman unbeknownst to her had pulled me from the darkness of my past. That darkness still crept in. Always she was there to kick it in the balls, sending those thoughts packing. First time I met her she was working the very horse she now rode fast toward the house. They were in a battle of wills. I watched from the hay truck I was unloading for a friend who had called me last minute to do him a favor. I did not realize that favor would lead me to this woman. Others had stopped to watch her too. The young horse, would charge and dart away like he was changing his mind. Every time he would charge she would laugh and you could hear her say "Boo!" Raising her hands and charging at him. Other horse people around were worried stopping to watch incase she was hurt. Minutes pasted as this dance played out. Finally she reached up grabbed his halter and he became jelly in her hands. Much like how I would later. I chuckled to myself, as I turned the Scout on and put it in reverse. Our meeting had not gone to the best of my plans. I was surprised though that she did not react the same as other women had to my charms. Most women, would become a puddle in my hands allowing me to do whatever I want. Lia, was different, she would look at me mid game and walk away. That less then adequate feeling rising several times before I seen something in those grey eyes that told me I was getting to her. Pulling up to the house, I seen she was not there yet. I headed to the stables, just as I heard the north gate open. "Damn it!" I heard from her as the gate closed. I chuckled she was so competitive. It was cute. Hell I wasn't even trying, but I wouldn't tell her that. "Hello beautiful!" I said as I watched her swing down from her horse. "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.." She was miffed, I could tell by her body language. Though it didn't last long when she was upset with me. Instead of offering help, with her it only made her stay mad longer. I waited for the hay cart to be filled. Once filled, I lifted it up and went to the first stall. There we worked in silent knowing, that way by the time we got to the house she would not stop the advance I planned on her. I needed her wrapped around me. That worry tugging on my heart and soul, the need to claim every inch of her was strong enough it took everything I had not to take her right in the barn
