Lia's POV
I got out of bed, got my jeans on just as I heard Red stir. "Good morning sweet cheeks," I smiled.
A low rumble of laughter emerged from Red, "Did you seriously just call me sweet cheeks?" A smile spread ear to ear.
"I did, I have some things I need to chat with you. Let me get some coffee brewing and some heat going in the stove." I was a bit more serious then I needed to be I think.
"Okayyy," I seen him raise a brow, curious to see where this would lead.
I walked out to the Kitchen/living space. grabbing some branches I started the cast iron stove. Gathering the bits for coffee, I went back to the stove to get it going. Our tiny home, still under construction. One more room needed to be added. But, the funds and process had slowed up with the onset of skirmishes that popped up in most major cities. As they were filtering out to more rural areas it was making it harder to get our last mini project and our biggest effort done.
I heard his boots walking down the hall. Grabbing his favorite mug I filled it with hot coffee and three ice cubes. Filling mine with a dash of cream I handed him his cup. "Would you rather in here our on the back porch?"
He thought an moment and then decided on the back porch. Silently he choose, by opening the back door without a word. Chief followed out, and I closed up the door.
"So?" He asked as he settled in his chair.
"Tala?" I asked in my head.
"He is magnificent," she cooed..
"Seriously, yes but we need to tell him." I growled.
"Oh right. Here let me.." Just as she said that I felt a shiver, something that tickled even the bones.
"What the?!" Red just out of his seat.
I glanced at my reflection in the sliding glass door. My eyes glowed a brilliant blueish hue. "Let me start at the beginning," I heard myself say. "The dire wolves I seen, one was red (pointing to the one in the back of his truck) and the other an earthy brown one named Lada. Lada helped me fight both skinwalkers and the red one. Gave me guidance in those events." I paused to see him watching me intently over the brim of his coffee. "She left a few minutes before you would kill the red one. Last night I dreamed of the Moon Goddess. She activated a portion of my DNA I did not know existed. Said that with what is happening in our world that I had a mission to do. She did not say what said mission was. Only that this time they had given me something with bite." I stopped to see what he had to say about it.
"So the other bits, seeing the future and talking to animals, are they still there?" Still watching me from behind his cup.
"Yes all still there. including this new bit. I have a wolf named Tala in my head who is helping me with this new "talent"," I used air quotes to add to even my own newest bit. "I am told it will be adventure of a lot if firsts." I shrugged and sipped the coffee creating a momentary bliss moment.
I watched him sit and let his mind wrap around the bits of information I offered. Til he asked "So will you change into one of those dire wolf things?"
Tala answered his question with a resounding "yes!" So I added a voiced one to his question "Yes I believe so."
"How am I supposed to know you from say some other wolf?" He set his coffee down, getting up he walked right to me. Our noses just inches apart. "I need to make sure you are safe," he was so close our foreheads touched. There was a jolt of energy, not so much electric but energy that sent a message to us both. That message was oddly terrifying yet understandable and honest. We both knew what it meant. This place was going to be a battle ground for something huge! It would be a spiritual/physical battle for many things. We both saw us as a great team, my wolf was magnificent. A light grey with black along the top like a fur formed armor. The black mask much like a battle helmet. The blue of my eyes glowed brightly against that black of the fur. An imposing figure, granted that I was chest high to my husband. A massive wolf, likely bigger the Lada. My man was just imposing, His rifle, dressed from head to foot in black with a gilli suit draped over one shoulder.
"Well THAT was new." Red shook his head.
"You seen that?" I asked.
"The picture of you as a wolf and me ready for war yes." Leaning back in his chair, He sipped his coffee a minute. "Perhaps that is something additional she gave you?" He raised an eyebrow.
Tala piped up to say, "all ancient wolves had that power, and from soul mate to soul mate the information would pass easily." So I asked her my own question, "Does that mean he has similar blood to me?" Tala cooed "Noooo, only certain bloodlines are called to Leto's family. Titan, Atlantean, demigod blood or the rarest those southern wolves." Tala breathed in his scent, my eyes turning their bright blue of her. "Oh," she squeaked surprised, "Atlantean and a hint of demigod!" She squealed in delight.
I told all of this to Red. He sat back and said nothing for a long while. Long enough I had made breakfast. He had finished his coffee, got up and walked back in the kitchen. "I knew this life with you would never be boring." I heard him smile. "I best take care of that red thing in the back of my truck and clean my rifle." He came in behind me to let his breath tickle my ear. His arms encircled me like they were going to crush me. Planting kisses along my neck, I felt his tongue flick out and touch my ear. "I best be going." His soft giggle made me want more. Tala screaming at me to go get him.
"Tala he is the biggest tease you will ever meet," I sighed finished the dishes. "Ah, he drives my senses wild," she shivered in my head. "I totally know what you mean." I did a shiver of my own. He could make every nerve come alive, sending you down a pleasure spiral like nothing else in this world. "That is the soul contract portion." Tala announced. "It is meant to help lift the world's vibration when soul mates come together." You could hear the smile in her voice. "Why would it help the world?" I asked curious how two people's energy could do that. Tala answered with, "When two souls as ancient as the both of you, containing the DNA of ancient magic feeds Our Mother. She alone can receive it and create new things or adjust the energy flow for new transitions."
Interesting I thought, "how many couples like us would it take to stop this war?" I asked Tala.
"None, only adjusting our Mother is one, if she is ready to allow magic, we would have enough to kick start the magic in those who still have it in their bones. Would also awaken the ancients who have gone to sleep allowing the monsters to take over has they have." A low growl emitted from her. "I can only wish we get that far." Tala sighed.
