Emily's POV
"Tonight?" Dante beat me to it. His eyes widened in shock and his jaw dropped at the news that my father had just blurted out. What did he mean by tonight? Was i supposed to just suddenly move into the house of a man I knew nothing about asides his ruthlessness and lack of empathy?
The thought alone scared me, I felt the hairs on my skin rise as I imagined living a life with Dante.
"Yes, tonight. I agree with Carlos. It would be best for you two to move in together immediately. After all, it makes things a lot more easier for the both of you to get to know each other better before the marriage. That way you both would know how to act well in front of the public." Dante's father said, he nodded his head in agreement.
I watched how Dante's poker face turned to an angry one. He gritted his teeth and a scowl grew on his face. He hated the idea, not even as much as I did.
"Okay then, we will be on our way to handle other businesses. It was a nice time with you Carlos and it was lovely meeting you Emily. A driver would be sent to pick you up by 9pm sharp. Make sure to be prepared." Dante's father said. He rose to his feet and Dante did exactly that too.
My father stretched his hand out for a handshake which Dante's father gladly received. "Truce?" My father raised his brow at Dante's father.
"Of course, cheers to many more business deals to come." Dante's father agreed. Eventually, Dante's father and Dante left the office. An awkward silence fell between I and my father. I could not even think of where to begin from, I had a lot of things to say.
"Make su..." Before my dad could complete his sentence, I interrupted him hastily with a loud scoff, followed by an hysteric laughter. "Marriage? Of all the people in the world, Dante De Luca? You have got to be f*****g kidding me dad!" I yelled at him as I shook my head in disbelief.
"Language young woman! Watch the tone you use in speaking to me!" My dad snapped at me. I rolled my eyes at him. I would not shouting in this manner if only he had consulted me before selling me off to the De Luca family.
"I will not marry Dante De Luca, never will that happen." I said through gritted teeth. I remained confident and i stood my ground even though I could already imagine the repercussions of my actions. My father hated it whenever anyone confronted him about something.
"Yes you will! Those are my orders and you will follow my orders no matter what! I do not care. You will still be allowed to complete your degree but you must marry Dante!" He snapped at me, he paused to slam the desk in front of him, just for dramatic effect.
"What about Dave? What will happen to him? You can not expect me to just break up with my boyfriend of three years? After everything we have been through?" I said, my voice was slowly breaking and I was on the verge of breaking down into tears.
"Do I look like I care about Dave? I have never liked that boy anyways. His societal status is no match for ours. You have to marry Dante, if you refuse to my orders then I will stop you from going to college and you will be locked in the mansion all day! Mark my words!" Dad yelled. He rose to his feet and attempted to walk away but I hastily reached for his wrist and grabbed it tight.
With tears flowing down my cheeks and a shaky breath, I asked "Why are you doing this? You hate the De Luca family. They are rival to us so why are you suddenly doing this? Are your really going to sell your oldest daughter to your rival?" I cried out.
Dad slowly loosened his wrist from my grip and turned to gaze at me with a serious look on his face. "It is business and I hope that with time you would understand." He began to walk away.
"You leave this house tonight!" Those were his last words before he pushed the door open and slammed the door behind him.
I slumped to the floor and broke down into tears. My father was really hell-bent on ruining my life. My relationship with Dave, everything was about to crumble all thanks to the sake of business? My dad prioritized business over me?
It immediately occured to me that if I could not convince my dad, I knew someone who could. Without wasting anymore time, I scurried out of the office.
I came to a stop in front of Alejandra's room. My younger sister was very close to my father. As a matter of fact, he adored her and always praised her because she managed to fit into his criteria. Serious and business minded.
I pushed the door open and rushed to meet Alejandra who was lying on her bed, trying to get a nap.
"Please I need you to talk to father." I broke down into tears. Alejandra sat upright and gazed at me with a confused look. "What are you talking about Emily?" she asked.
"Dad is going to marry me off to Dante De Luca." I blurted out. A frown grew on Alejandra's face and i could not tell if she was in support of it or angry at father for making such a rash decision.
"I can not believe this! Dante De Luca is mine! Why would father give him to you?" Alejandra snapped at me.
Now she was turning everything to me? I felt anger rise in me, No one was really on my side. Alejandra only cared about her own selfish desires to claim Dante.
I was left with only one thought. To escape, I had to escape and it had to be tonight.
