Chapter One - Beginning

2124 Words
“Here comes our Princess Avian.” ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ That is the first thing I’ve heard from my friend Rheane, the moment I stepped my feet on the floor of our classroom. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I’m out of breath because of running all the way through our school. Our house is just few meters away from our school but I woke up late this morning so I was late. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I hurriedly went to shower and ran as fast as I could, thinking that our professor was already in our room and already starting a discussion but I was wrong. I see no professor inside this four-walled room. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I heaved a sigh and started walking close to my seat. I should’ve not run that quick if I knew that our professor is not present today. Now, my hair looks like a bird’s nest because of running. How annoying. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I pulled out a brush from my bag and started brushing my frizzy hair. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Our poor princess. Are you that scared that our professor is already here?” Rheane asked with a mocking tone and annoying pout displayed on her face. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Look at your face, Rheane. You look ew. Where’s the professor, by the way?” I asked and put back the brush inside my bag. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Actually, he was here earlier but he said that he won’t be attending class today because they have a meeting. He just came to say the notice.” Rheane just shrugged and applied lip balm on her dry lips. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “I see,” I muttered. I’m glad he’s nowhere. He’s so scary and strict. I hate seeing him. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Oh by the way, Avian. Why are you late today? Have you dreamt about your prince charming again?” Eljhei, my other friend asked teasingly while poking the side of my tummy. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ That is the reason why they often called me Princess Avian. I’m a lucid dreamer, making me able to control and create my own dreams. I usually don’t create my own dreams, I just control them most of the time. Then one time, I dreamt of being a princess and there was a prince. I know it’s cliché hearing a story like this but it's actually romantic when it’s in my dream. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ That’s also the first time I dreamt of an unknown person because most of the people in my dreams are people that I personally know. Or maybe I know him, I just can’t recognize him because his face is blurry. But seeing a blurry face in my dream is also odd for a lucid dreamer. All of my dreams are vivid and never vague. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Setting those thoughts aside, I answered her, “I dreamt of him, again.” ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ They started squealing and leaned closer to me so that they could hear what more I’m going to say. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “What happened this time?” Eljhei excitedly asked while hitting my arm repeatedly. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Can you stop hitting me first?” She stopped hitting me and gave me a peace sign so I just rolled my eyes on her. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Anyway, nothing much happened in my dreams.” After saying that, their face lost its excitement. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Ey, that’s all? You’re so boring,” Rheane complained as they sat again on their seats properly. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “But he said something odd before I woke up,” I continued making them lean again forward to me. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “What is it? What is it?” ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “He said, once something is gone, we’ll see each other more often.” His voice played in my mind when I remembered him saying those words. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “But what does that means? Did you asked him what does he means?” Rheane asked followed by Eljhei’s nod of agreement. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “I don’t know what he means either. I didn’t had a chance to ask him since I woke up already.” ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I can see the disappointment in their face and that’s understandable because I’m disappointment too. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Let’s not think about that anymore. The next class is about to start,” I told them because they seem like they can’t still move on with my story. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Exactly after saying that, our professor comes in. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ “I’m home!” I merrily said as I enter our house. I decided to go home at our house today instead on our dorm because it’s almost the end of semester. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I walked to the kitchen because I can smell a tasty aroma coming from the kitchen so I expected to see my mom cooking there. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Wow, is that my favorite dish you’re cooking?” I walked close to her to see what’s the food she’s cooking. “Oh, you went home. How’s school, sweetheart?” she asked and smiled at me sweetly. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I just didn’t went home for 2 months but the physical features of my mother really changed a lot. She looks paler and skinnier. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “School is fine... Are you okay, mom? I’ll help you put the plates on the dining table,” I offered but she rejected. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “No need, I’m okay. Just sit there and wait for the food. I know you’re tired from school so let me serve for my princess, okay?” I smiled and thank her. I got the best mom. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ She walked to the drawer where the plates are placed but stopped halfway through. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ “Mom, are you sure you’re okay?” I was about to stand up and walk close to her to check if there’s a problem but it was too late because she already collapsed. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I ran towards her, panicking. “Mom! Wake up! What happened? Mom, can you hear me?!” ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I started crying when she’s not responding anymore so I took my phone out of my pocket to call for help. I even had a hard time dialing because of uncontrollably shaking. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ I checked my mom’s pulse and relieved that it’s still beating. ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ And when the help arrived, I thought everything will be fine again soon once my mom got treated but little did I know, it’s all just the beginning.
