"Are you sure you don't want to stop now?" May asked on our way back. "No, I really want to do this, this is the only way to be useful to him." She chuckles; "It is not just about being useful, you can as well be discarded." I blinked at her statement: "See Lisa, I'm not trying to scare you, it is just that there are too many consequences for this decision." I just nodded. We finally arrived in her room as I will be staying with her for now. I placed my hand on her hair. The punk side "is beautiful," I smiled. "Do you hate it? "She asked. "No I don't, it's just...different from your usual style," I remarked. "Yeah... It is just that when I came here, everything was different from the outside world, so I had to blend in with them". I looked keenly at her and my eyes dropped on the tattoos on her hand. "What's the meaning of that?" I pointed at it. "When you join the clan, you will get a tattoo to represent your rank," she said, admiring it. "What's your rank now?" I asked curiously. "I have gone farther than you might imagine," she said confidently. I nodded, "I had to do lots of bad and illegal things to get Master's approval to join," she added. "Really, so what were you asked to do?" I pouted. She paused for a second. "Something terrible. There were 20 that applied, but unfortunately only 5 people were accepted". "So what happened to the remaining 15 people?" She blinked, "He killed them for not passing the test." "What's...?". I screamed, my heart pounding by the statement. "Don't worry tomorrow, I will teach you some basic training in case your test requires fighting," May assured. "What do you think the test will be?" She blinked at me, “How will I know?” she said, rising from her seat. “You’re the one who insisted on joining the clan. Figure it out yourself' and she shut the door behind her. I stretched out, letting the tension slip from my body as the mattress held me. "I will surely pass the test," I assured myself. Morning*** Fingers pressed gently into my skin, pulling me from sleep. “Lisa… wake up.” May's voice whispered. "The clan is already done with the morning routine, is this how you are going to pass the test?" she shouted. My feet landed on the floor immediately."I'm so sorry, I was tired from yesterday." " That is fine," change into this." She said, pointing at the cloth on the couch. "Thanks," I muttered, changing immediately. "You must be here at 5 AM every morning," May instructed when we got to a big field. "Noted." "That's the building for the workers," she said, pointing at the white building deep inside the compound. "That's where you would have been," she added. I dilated my eyes to her face. She seemed so serious."" So where are we jogging to?" I asked, changing the topic. "To the gym; hope you ain't tired already. "No," I shouted, shaking my head. "That's Master's building." My feet stumbled to a halt immediately I heard that. I shifted to get a closer view of the building. It screams luxury but is all painted black very different from other buildings. "Why is it all black?" I found myself asking. "That's his favorite color and nobody enters there except Johnny, his assistant and Daisy." "That means it is off limits, "we chorused. "Jinx!" I teased. She laughed. " Remember we can only do this when we are alone." "Yea, anyway, you are owing me cause I said it first," I remarked. "Please take it easy on me with the punishment," she teased. "Umm..., I will think about that," I said amidst laughter. ------------- The gym is filled with clan members, some are parading and chatting with friends while some are busy building strength. "The gym is so big," I whispered in May's ear. The ceiling stretched high above us, supported by massive steel beams and rows of bright overhead lights. A polished wooden court occupied the center, its surface gleaming beneath the lights. Along the walls were rows of bleachers packed with clan members while several training areas filled the corners with punching bags, weights, and other equipment. "Yea! Kind of," she said, lifting a 3-inch weight. ""Start with the punching bag. It helps to build muscles," she said, pointing at a black leather punching bag. "Thanks " walking over to try it out. I stretched my right hand forward to hit the bag, but it didn't even move, not even an inch. Laughter chorused the room. The clan members are all focusing their attention on me. "Just go back to where you came from," a boy screamed. "How could you say that? Don't forget she is the master's wife," a girl mocked, raising another round of laughter. "Go back to your workout now!" a girl on a messy bon shouted. They all became mute and quickly went back to their work. ""You are worse than me when I was twelve years old. She chuckle. "I'm Diana, by the way," she said, facing my direction and expecting me to do the same too. "I... I'm Lisa," I stuttered. Lowering my eyes. She smiles,"Your face is unfamiliar, new member, huh?." "Am not one yet, still preparing," I said softly. "Then I will help you out," she said with that same smile. "She seems so nice," I thought. "When you want to throw a punch, you need to keep your balance first. She shifted into position, planting her feet firmly on the floor. She turned her body sideways, bent her knees, and tightened her stance. Then she twisted her hips and drove one fist forward in a sharp punch. “Like that,” she said, lowering her fist with a satisfied nod. The punching bag went flying to the other side. ""Wow!" escaped my mouth. "That's awesome," I clapped. "Why don't you give it a try?" she asked. "Yes, let me ". I finally got the position after the third trial and was able to throw a punch. After my training, I waited for May to return from her inspection, but she didn't, so I managed to find my way back to her quarter. Evening*** Clan members were rushing around the compound, some of them carrying travel bags while others hurried toward the waiting vehicles. “Are they going on a mission?” I wondered. I took a closer look and spotted a figure who looked a lot like May. It was difficult to see clearly in the dim light, but something about her movements felt familiar. Curious, I decided to get a closer look and confirm if it was really her. "Why is everyone in a rush?" I asked May, who is doing the same. "An urgent mission came up, we have to tackle it." She paused. "Am sorry I won't be here to witness your test," she pleaded. My heart pounded, "So I will be against him alone," I whispered. "Just head straight over there now, he doesn't tolerate lateness," May's voice interrupted. "OK, be safe," I waved at her, heading to the convocation hall. Convocation hall*** As I entered the hall, the Master was not yet here, "I sighed, thank goodness!" I went to sit on the empty chair by the wall. The room was buzzing with the loud, familiar beat of “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, the bass pounding through the hall and vibrating beneath my feet. The place was packed with clan members, some dancing wildly while others leaned against the walls, laughing and shouting over the music. Smoke curled through the air as they drank from bottles and cups, completely lost in the rhythm. The music paused when the master made his entrance to the hall with his boys. Everyone bowed deeply to greet him. I slightly raised my head to pip at him but... Our eyes locked, and I lowered my head immediately as he went to sit in his chair. His face was furious, like he just had a bad day. “Step out,” he growled, his voice sending a shiver down my spine. I quickly ran to the middle of the hall and lowered my head to the floor. "Strip and lay on the table"
