Anthony sat across from the police sergeant, his lawyer at his side. All he could think about was Anna. Was she pacing the house right now? Chewing her nails? Waiting for a call that never came? The sergeant picked up the bail papers and stamped them with a heavy thud. “He’s free to go,” the sergeant said. Anthony stood, the metal chair scraping against the floor.
