CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT Riley turned over on her bed to look at the ringing phone. Sure enough, the call was from Brent Meredith. “What’s happened?” she asked when she picked up the call. “Another murder,” Meredith said. “Not in the Belle Terre Nature Preserve, though. This time it was in the town of Lorneville.” Riley remembered that Lorneville was not far north of Sattler and Belle Terre. Although the killer had moved away from his expected turf, he was staying in the general area. But any hopes she and her colleagues had of stopping his grim murders by closing off Belle Terre were now crushed. Riley had feared this all along. Meredith added, “The body was found buried in an abandoned storage building in the marina there.” “And there was also a sand timer at the scene?” Riley asked.
