Heliotrope
Adelie huffs, extending her black and white speckled wings while giving her arms a stretch. She is where she usually resides at 4am.
Atop of the Cathedral Morte in the city of Heliotrope. The city is old and large, it's catacombs spread the under belly of the city for miles hosting many night creatures.
Heliotrope has always been a hot spot of the unknown, humans busy themselves with mundane issues by day and play with the devils at night. However, humans are not aware that the man who cashed their order at the local supermarket wasn't just Todd the human but was indeed Todd the Vampire.
Adelie bites at her lip lost in thought as she observes. the Cathedral Morte is the only home she has known. Her own personal roost, she has a bed inside but rarely sees it. The attendants inside have gotten used to caring for a ghost who simply comes and goes like a bad storm.
It has officially been 30 days since the last time Adelie has even talken to another soul. She doesn't get many visitors, she gets her assignments and she does her job. She does her job well.
Tonight though felt different, she was summoned back to her roost and told to wait till Mr. Malcolm called for her. She grew tired of waiting in the pews like usual and decided to enjoy the night air. Adelie has been alive for a very long time, she has seen this city as a small settlement, then be destroyed in wars and rebuilt by new kings.
The year is now 2040, and for the human side of it its been very peaceful for them. Back in the day Adelie had many humans on her list to subdue. As the job of the reaper was to keep the balance. Usually she took down supernaturals that got big heads. During the dark times, many humans met their end by Adelie's hands.
"Come down little bird, it is time." Adelie perked up to Mr. Malcolm's voice, dropping down through the open window to land in the illuminated foyer of the Cathedral. Adelie tucked her wings in the tips brushing against the painted stone flooring.
"What is this about?" Adelia says softly but stern keeping eye contact with Mr. Malcolm.
"I got an order, first one in a long time." Mr. Malcolm was an older man, in his 80's who spoke with a surety that asked for no questions. In his younger days, he was quite the flirt but grew to be a quiet confidant of Adelie's who grew used to the aloof lonely nature of the reaper.
"An order? That is strange, the council never gave a hint that they'd be giving you anything." Adelie huffed, she did not like being kept in the dark. She was aware if her low stature in the Angel world but they did not make it easier to swallow. It wasn't her nature.
"Well, sometimes Little Bird you don't get to know everything." Malcolm eye'd Adelie. "The council has decided that in light of the vampires expanding their territory and the ever growing expansion of the human world it is time to add help."
"Add help?" Adelie asked bluntly, not sure what to think or feel.
"Yes little bird, you cannot manage it all. Plus, they found the perfect person who even volunteered didn't need forced."
Adelie glared at Malcolm, that was suspicious. Malcolm chuckled, his whole body shaking with it.
"You are grounded for one week to train and become a team with the new recruit. This comes from above, from Rapheal."
Adelie hisses at the name, feeling her body frow warm with adrenaline. She grips her hands closed, digging her nails into her palms. "Pleade let Rapheal know if he must f**k me, at least have the common decency to look me in the eyes while he does it."
"I'll be sure to send that right away" Malcolm mumbled. "In the mean time, do use your room for its intended purpose and as always, you may not scare away the attendants."
Adelie practically stomped to her room which was situated in the western tower of the Cathedral Morte. It was a simple room, it held no special objects and has been the same way since receiving the room when given the Cathedral as her stopping point. When given the Cathedral she was rather surprised, only to find out it was simply a way to keep her in check. To control the wild beast that is, Adelie.
Adelie however, did enjoy the hot shower allowing herself to relax. The second she hits the bed she falls to sleep knowing it has been a long time since sleeping in a bed.
Julian POV
"Good morning Sir Julian."
It's officially 8am in the morning, and I am sitting in the most Gothic Cathedral situated at the center of a bustling high tech city.
Julian grumbles, "I was told to be here early, I've been sitting here in this pew for so long I'm almost certain my ass is apart of it." The attendant was a small woman of maybe late 40s, she wore all black with a red cross on her bonnet. Her cheeks turned red as she looked down bowing her head
"I apologize sir, it is very unusual for the Cathedral Morte to have a newcomer and I believe Lady Adelie...is a bit..um.."
Julian growls, "Spit it out woman."
The attendant jumps at the growl, "I will go check on the delay!" Away she goes, as fast as one can in a long dress.
"If you could not scare my attendants that would be wonderful, I have managed to keep around the ones I have and I'd rather not go through the hiring process at my age."
Julian shot up from his seat, turning to the voice. Behind him was an old man, his hair was gray and eyes showed he has seen much. His body was taken care of but you could see he was not at an age to fight or defend anyone anymore.
"My name is Malcolm, I am the Priest of this Cathedral and the caretaker of the Reaper. I have done my job for a very long time..." Malcolm looked irritated at him, making Julian glare at him. "You see Julian, I am getting old. You have been picked, for whatever reason, to take my place as Priest and caretaker. What I cannot figure out though, is why you will also be taking over reaper duties as well."
Julian swallowed, eyeing the man. He moved himself out of the pews and positioned himself in front of Malcolm out stretching his hand.
"All I can tell you is, I am here for good reason."
Malcolm's face grew dark, taking Julian's hand hard in his. "If you have come, to harm my little bird, you will understand why this is the Cathedral Morte."
Before Julian could retort a warm sensation shot through his body, he turned around just in time to see a small being come into the light shining through the glass ceiling.
She was small in stature, her black and white wings seemed to engulf her and her black hair coming down in waves to her waist.
Although the odd proportion of her stature, Julian couldn't help but notice her thighs were thick and her chest could easily fill his hands. The girl was starring daggers at him, her bright green eye's showed nothing but disdain.
Julian groaned at the thought of her getting in his face to yell at him. Julian shook his head, he knew why he had come and he had no intention of entertaining that part of him.
"This is Lady Adelie, the Reaper, the only one of her kind." Malcolm's voice almost hinted at more than her caretaker making Julian's blood boil.
"You are the Fucker who apparently thinks he can do my job better than me. You, who reeks of a mundane human but thinks they are more just because you hold some werewolf essence." Julian went still, not realizing he was holding his breath as the small angel walked up to him. She was now an inch from him, starring at him without fear or the intense adoration he felt for her.
This is who has been chosen as his mate, he sent a quiet message to the Moon Goddess to go f**k herself.
