26 After weeks of uncertainty, the man finally called Mahalat. They met on a park bench, sitting next to each other as if by accident, surrounded by a scanning spell that would tell them if anybody was within hearing range. "Security is very tight," Mahalat told his mentor. "There's no chance. It's too risky." "There will be an engagement party," the man said. "And it will happen in a private residence, not a magical house. Many of the guests will be non-magical. There will be many guests. You can come in as one of them." He nodded. "Bring her to my lab," the man said. "I'll run some measurements on her." He didn't have the intention to do so. He had decided. He would take her to his residence, the only place his mentor didn't know about. That was the only way to keep her safe. H
