AVA
I walked through the market, still covered in ruby's cloak. I needed to make it out alive.
“Sorry.” I muttered, as I continued to walk. I had bumped into someone, I didn't wait for any response as I continued to walk faster.
“Ava.” I heard a voice call faintly. “You can't keep running away.” I froze on my spot. Logan was speaking to me through the mind, just like Xavier did.
“Come back to me.” I hastened my steps. “Or you would have to be blamed for whatever befalls your mother.”
No, not mom. I cried silently as I continued to run.
“Ava?” he called sternly. “Come back to your Alpha.”
“You’re not my Alpha.” I screamed and fell on the floor, getting the attention of everyone.
“Found her!” One of the warriors shouted to the others. I sobed silently as I was being dragged away. People stood, staring at me. I wished at that very moment that the ground will open up and allow me in.
“Let me go.” I screamed at them, but they were too strong. I struggled within their grip but it was fruitless.
I was dragged into a tiny room that had only one window. I sat there for hours, crying my eyes out. I was getting tired and hungry, I didn't realise when I slept off.
I yawned loudly as I opened my eyes, I was still locked up.
Slowly, I limped towards the window, I tried to look outside but I could barely see a thing. I fell back on my knees and winced immediately. I had forgotten that I was injured. By evening, I could barely realise where I was, my sight got blurry and my feet felt weak. I wasn't able to walk properly, my whole body felt numb and before I realised what was happening, I felt myself drifting off slowly until my eyes shuttered shut.
“Ava?” I heard voices, trying to wake me up but it was far. “Ava can you hear me? Open your eyes dear, it's mom.” I heard soft whimpers. I tried to move my hands but I was weak, I couldn't even open my eyes.
“Was I dead?” I asked myself, I couldn't see anything except darkness and I couldn't move any part of my body. What's really happening to me.
“Ava?” My wolf growled loudly, stirring up within me but it felt painful. “What are you doing?” I winced at it, “It hurts.”
“I’m trying to wake you up, so get focused?” She snapped at me and I just lay there, waiting for the worst to happen.
LOGAN
“She’s not yet awake.” James said walking into my chamber. I slammed my fist on the wall, earning a scowl from him.
“You went too far this time around Alpha.” He warned, “Yes, what she did wasn't right, but letting her stay in the dungeon for days without food nor water plus, she was badly injured, yet you let her stay there and now she has drifted off. And you know what happens when a wolf drifts off, there's a possibility that she might not wake again.”
“I f*****g know all this, James!” I yelled at him. “I know what I did was wrong and I'm regretting them okay? She will wake up.” I said, placing my palm on my chest. “I can still feel her.”
I walked to the infirmary, with James trailing behind me. I met her lying on the bed. Even while unconscious, she looked glorious.
“Alpha.” Mrs Reed bowed, I waved at her before she stood up.
“How’s she doing?”
“Still the same.” she stared up at me. I know that looks, she was blaming me for what happened. I averted my gaze away from her and stared back at the sleeping beauty. I reached out my hand to touch her but her mother interjected, almost so fast.
“I’m sorry, Alpha, but you can't touch her.” I nodded at her. I walked back and with one last look at Ava, I left the room, hands tucked onto my pants.
XAVIER
It's been days and I've tried to reach out to Ava but it wasn't working. If we hadn't mind linked the other day, I would have thought that she wasn't my mate but since we already did, it made me feel bothered.
I could still feel her but it was faint, it was like as if she was drifting far away from me but slowly.
“Get the men ready.” I commanded, “We leave for Dark moon territory tonight. Something's wrong.”
“Hello Brother.” My sister, Selene walked in.
“Selene.”
“I heard of your return but you never got to visit me, so I began to wonder. Is there a problem?” she spoke, her voice laced with concern.
“Ofcourse not, sister. I am doing quite alright.”
“i see.” She nodded walking close to me. “And where are you off to? I haven't seen your mate yet, not heard any news about her arrival yet, is there a problem?” I huffed out and slumped on the bed. She walked behind me, placing her hand on my head, she began to massage it and once again after a long time, I felt at peace.
Selene had being the only family that I had after we lost our parents. She had always being supportive of me, no matter whatever I did. She was older and always acted like mom. Even as the Alpha, she had never for once failed to protect me. She was always there for me, whenever I needed her.
“Do you mind sharing?” She whispered into my ears and I smiled out.
“I will tell you soon, not now. Right now, I have to make sure that things are alright.” I said standing up.
“Do you promise to be back safely?” I smiled at her and hugged her.
“I’m not going to war, Selene. I'll be back.” I kissed her forehead before stepping out. “I promise to be back safely.”
I walked upto my men, ready for the ride ahead. I hoped unto my horse.
“Ava, I'm coming for you.” I muttered lowly.
