Chapter 1
The rain pittered slowly on the windows of my house. I sighed drearily as I waited for my brothers and father to hurry up and come home with dinner already. It was getting late and the sun was already practically gone due to the thick rain clouds which didn't seem to be going anywhere soon. I drummed my fingertips on the window before inhaling deeply and standing. No point in waiting at the window like a longing puppy waiting for their owners to come home. I walked back over to our small living room. It was a mess, but that's what I get having two uncontrollable brothers and a father who laughs and encourages them to fight. I smiled at the memory of the night before. Although we didn't have much to our name, we had each other and that was all that mattered. I began to clean what I could. As I did so, it seemed as though the rain outside continued to get heavier and heavier. I couldn't believe that it was the summer after I'd finally graduated from high school and it had been raining pretty much ever since. I wondered if our city had gotten cursed for some reason. As I finished tidying the space I heard the front door blast open and my family walk in. My brothers stood tall and happily, shaking their wet hair from the rain. They laughed at one another's appearance. My father appeared a second later with much more food than we really needed. "Hey! You're finally awake Amethia!" My eldest brother, Katston called with a laugh. "I was awake this whole time," I mumbled with a small smile on my face. "Not my fault you don't bother to check on me in my room, lazy brother." My other brother, Torka smiled a big dorky smile. "We got you some noodles lil sis!" My father pushed my brothers out of the entry way with the food while he removed his jacket. "You know fully well you're welcome at the pack house, right?" He said softly. His words caught me off-guard. "I-I know. I just... like to be alone." I mumbled turning away. "Amethia, just because you're not like your brothers doesn't mean that-" "Am! Hurry up! Or else I'm going to eat your food!!" I heard Katston call for me, cutting off what my father was trying to say. "Coming!" I replied, thankful for the excuse to dart away from my father. I grabbed my noodles and only a few moments later did our father join us. We ate happily, talking about what everyone's day had been like. I only ate about half of what my brothers bought for me, while I watched them slurp down every little thing that was displayed in front of them. Torka noticed I had stopped eating and pointed to my bowl with his mouth full of rice. "You gonna eat that?" He asked nonchelantly. I rolled my eyes. "Go ahead," I said pushing the bowl over to him. "Score!" He exclaimed with a less full mouth now, pulling my bowl closer to him and taking a bite. I gave out a small laugh. "Werewolves." Katston's eyes poked up from his own bowl of noodles. He swallowed before responding. "Jealous?" He asked with a taunting smile. Shaking my head, I stood. "Not really. Y'all smell." The three men all then had very dejected looks on their faces and sad eyes. "I'm joking you guys, c'mon." "Are you going out tonight still?" My father asked gently after a moment of silence. I pursed my lips. "Nah, I think it's a bit too dangerous now with this rain." "This has gotta suck huh?" Torka raised an eyebrow. "First summer finally free of the grips of high school and all it does is rain." I shrugged. "It's not the end of the world," I paused for a second. "I'm headed upstairs now." "Want to play a board game tonight?" My father asked before I disappeared from the main floor. I nodded. "Sure! Call me down when you're ready." I bounded up the stairs to my bedroom. Once inside, I flopped onto my bed and grabbed hold of my phone, checking my notifications in one fowl swoop. Nothing important was really going on, so I cleared them before checking social media absentmindedly. Once again, nothing important really appeared before my eyes. I decided to watch a movie while waiting for my brothers downstairs to pick a game. This was a common occurrence in our house, arguments over which game to play, and I usually did not really care what we ended up doing. I was only a few minutes into a random murder-mystery when I got a text from my best friend, Laila. OMG AME!!! sup ? I found him!! ?? my MATE you dingus! omg lala !! congrats ! is he cute ;0 ?? DAMN RIGHT HE IS. lol :P we bumped into each other at the SUPERMARKET of all places can't you believe it? he's so dreamy and handsome. we'll have to meet up soon so you two can meet!!! hehe i'd love that! I was pulled out of my text conversation by Torka calling my name. I turned my phone off and headed downstairs where I saw Monopoly set up and sitting on the table. 'Oh no,' I thought, 'This is going to end poorly.' As I took a seat at the table, I announced the good news. "Laila found her mate," I said softly. "Aw good for her!" Torka smiled. "Jealous that she's already found hers, but oh well." "You boys will find yours in due time," My father smiled. "Need I remind you that I-" "Didn't meet Mom until you were like 28," Katston cut my dad off. "Yeah, yeah we know Dad." My father laughed. "Patience is key in these things." There was a pause of silence while he continued to deal out everyone money. It was only interrupted when all of a sudden all three of them jumped up from their chairs. I knew something was going on, they'd probably received some kind of information through their pack's mind link. I looked at the fake money in my hand as they all began to move around me. I was going to be alone again tonight. That exactly wasn't the end of the world for me, but I hated feeling so alone. That seemed to happen more often than not this summer. "Amethia, are you listening to me?" My father called me out my thoughts. I blinked a few times. "Sorry, were you saying something?" "I told you to go pack your bags." He said sternly, a tone of voice I didn't hear very often. I drew back in my chair. "What's going on Dad? Did something happen?" "We're taking you to the pack house, where you'll be safe." Katston said in a tone similar to that of our father's. I shook my head. "I don't want to go there, I want to stay here. I'm fine on my-" "No!" My father's roar shook the floor of our house. "You will do as I say. Now go pack a bag before I get one of your brothers to do it for you." As if against my own will, I sauntered up the stairs back to my room. I noticed Laila had texted me back before I'd gone downstairs but I ignored her. My father was extremely shaken up and he almost never yelled at me. I couldn't help but continue to wonder what was wrong. When I finished packing my bag, I slung it over my shoulder and shoved my phone and earbuds into my pocket. My father was already outside loading the car and my brothers were waiting for me to lock up the house. I looked up to Torka. "What's happening Torka? Please... tell me." He sighed, shaking his head. "We don't really know either. There was an attack on our Alpha. He's hurt pretty bad. We were instructed to bring our loved ones to the pack house so that everyone could be defended in one spot." I nodded my head slowly as Katston pulled me under the umbrella he held and led me to the truck. He helped me in before climbing in the passenger seat. Torka sat next to me while our father took off from our house as fast as he could.
