I wiped my face with my hand. 'Here goes nothing,' I thought to myself as I knocked on the door to Amethia's room.
"Busy," I heard her voice shout out.
"Can I come in?" I shouted back.
"Absolutely not." She snapped in response.
I sighed, I knew full well that this was coming. "Amethia, can we please just-"
"Just give me a minute I'm changing!" She cut me off, her tone becoming angrier.
"Sorry," I replied softly before taking a step back and leaning against the wall. Only a moment later did the door swing open for me, revealing my mate in all her glory. Her very angry glory.
She was wearing a lilac t-shirt that was a few sizes too big for her and black sweat shorts. Her hair was tied up in a messy bun and her face was red and spotty. 'She's been crying,' I realized as I examined her.
"Narien, listen, I'm just... My emotions went on a literal roller coaster ride today and right now I just need some time alone I think." She spoke firmly.
"I just wanted to tell you that I'm getting to the bottom of everything, and that nothing has changed about the way I feel about you, okay?" I tried to explain what I could quickly, but I knew my words were falling flat in her ears.
She sighed. "Again, I just really-"
I cut her off by kissing her.
I had no idea what had come over me as she tried to push me away. I wouldn't let her. I was going to hold her tightly against me and wouldn't let go. She was my mate and I didn't want anything to upset her anymore.
Finally, she broke the kiss. "Argh! Listen!" She said trying to squirm away from me. "I'm not mad at you, okay?"
"I can't live without you," I said with my sole remaining brain cell.
She face-palmed. "I know, I know. Listen I just. I'm still just a normal human being okay? T-the wolf side understands what's going on but the human side, the side that's like fully me, is upset and being thrown for a loop right now."
"Then let your wolf side free," I mumbled, continuing to hold her in my arms. I didn't hold her against her will anymore, but she had since stopped trying to get away from me. "I'm possessive Amethia, and I only want you."
I felt her body tremble at my words. "Narien, are you drunk?" She asked.
I blinked, releasing her completely at this point. I was confused by her words. "No, I'm not. At least not on alcohol."
"Then you're high?" She exclaimed while taking a step back. "Are you addicted to something bad?"
I shook my head. "No?" I furrowed my brows. "The only thing I'm addicted to is you, Amethia."
I saw her face go red. "Stop it," she said, hiding her face in one of her hands. "I just really want to take a nap before dinner, okay? Can I please just have some time to process everything that's going on?" She asked.
I nodded. "Alright, I'll talk to you after dinner then?" I asked carefully.
She nodded, shutting the door without another word. I sighed before putting my own face in my hands. I felt like such an i***t. Why do I act the way I do whenever she's around? It drives me crazy.
Dinner came and went without much kerfuffle. I could barely keep my eyes off of Amethia, she was just so damn mesmerizing to me. I helped my mother clean up after dinner before chasing after my mate in order to try and clear the air properly this time.
"So listen," I said as Amethia sat on my bed this time.
"I'm listening," she replied, an eyebrow c****d on her face.
"Ithalia... It wasn't me okay?" I said with large gestures.
"You mean you didn't get her pregnant?" Amethia asked.
I nodded my head. "Right, wasn't me."
She looked down and then back up at me. "And you know this... how exactly? Has a paternity test already been done?"
"No, but it'll be done soon enough. I just know it's not mine because..."
Amethia crossed her arms. "Because why?"
I felt my own face heat up now at the thought of being in bed with Amethia once more. "Because the only time I didn't use protection was with you..."
Her face also turned red. I could tell that she was thinking about what we'd done before now too. "So, you... um..."
"Yes, we had s*x before. But it was emptiness compared to you."
She nodded her head. "I see," she mumbled. "You... of course you two did."
"Yeah. We were in a relationship, so, it makes sense." I replied.
"Right, that makes sense. Two people in love usually do that." She said quietly.
"So, you're not upset?" I confirmed quickly.
"No, I'm not upset."
I let out a laugh, realizing the pointlessness of our conversation. "We're not really saying much now, are we?"
She laughed at my words. Goddess it felt like a bright light shone through her when I saw her smile. "We're really not. Besides I already knew about that."
"Knew what?" I asked.
"That you and Ithalia, um, slept together."
I turned my head to the side. "How? Did Marsen tell you?"
She giggled again. "No, silly. When we... you know! You said that it feels so much different with your mate, to which I said that I wouldn't know..." She trailed off slowly.
"Ah," I realized now what she was talking about. "Wait so... You weren't lying about that?"
Amethia's face became confused. "Why would I lie about something so... personal? I've only ever slept with you Narien, and..." Her head dipped downwards and she muttered something I couldn't hear.
I sat next to her with the biggest s**t-eating grin I could possibly muster up. "And what, Amethia?"
"Nothing!" She perked up, her face flushed a deep red.
Without hesitation, I quickly grabbed Amethia and pushed her further onto my bed. Within seconds I was on top of her and pinning her arms above her head. "Tell me, darling mate of mine."
"Narien!" She whined. "Please! It's too embarrassing!"
I planted a kiss on her forehead, and then on both of her cheeks before humming. "Dare I say, my Luna, will you please tell me what you just said?"
She groaned loudly trying to shake my grasp from her arms. But it was no use. I was like a wolf on top of a small bunny rabbit. Amethia was my prey and she wasn't going anywhere until I got what I wanted from her.
"F-Fine!" She mustered out.
"I'm not letting go until you say it." I gave her a devilish smile.
I could see her eyes examine my face before shaking herself back to reality. "I-I said that you're the only person I ever will sleep with."
My eyes widened at her words and my jaw dropped. This woman, she really was surrendering herself to me. It made me feel like I was on cloud 9, I could not believe that she was saying these things to me right now.
"Gah! Okay you can say something now!" She squirmed underneath my grasp once again. "I told you it was embarrassing Narien!"
"Marry me." I said bluntly.
"Wh-what!" She shouted. "You're going to ask me right now while you have me pinned to your bed? I haven't even been back that long and the rest of the pack doesn't know about me and-"
"Tonight, then."
"NO!" She shouted. "I am NOT marrying you tonight, I already told you this!"
I drew away from her finally and she practically shot out of my reach from where I was now kneeling on my bed. "No, I... I didn't mean that we should get married tonight, I meant that tonight I introduce you to everyone else."
Her eyes went down. "I don't know, Narien... I'm still so worried. A weak little human like me doesn't deserve to be the Luna."
"Nonsense," I shook my head. "We were bound together by fate. Nobody will question the mate bond. You are my Luna, my one and only. The woman I want to spend the rest of my life with, the woman I want to marry, the woman I want to have my children. It's you and only you, Amethia."
"Bah!" She exclaimed. "Stop it! You're making me get all flustered!"
"Amethia, I wasn't asking before." I said. "Marry me."
In response to my words, Amethia kicked her feet on the bed like a toddler would and buried her face in her lap. She didn't say anything.
"That's not an answer," I said very matter-of-factly.
"I know!" She looked up at me with the reddest face I'd seen her don yet. "Remember Narien! Human side! Human side is at war with the mate thing in my head!"
I crawled over to her and placed my hands on her shoulders.
"I'm not leaving you ever again, Amethia. I promise. I won't forget you." I said while trying to calm her. "Just close your eyes and take a deep breath. What do you feel?"
She did as she was told, the redness in her face slowly beginning to disappear. "I feel... confused," she began. "But I'm not unhappy. I'm really happy, actually."
"That's good!" I exclaimed in response.
She smiled at my words. "I just... My human-er-rational side of me is just... It's freaking out. How can I be agreeing to marry someone I've barely been in a relationship with?"
"You just said that you wanted me to be the only person you'll ever sleep with, did you not?" I asked the first thing that came to mind.
Her eyes still shut, Amethia's brows became furrowed as she pouted at me. "That's why I'm confused!"
"Amethia, we've known each other since childhood. Today I remembered how we used to hunt for worms in the dirt, and I was also reminded of how I used to ask your brothers about you constantly. I missed you so insanely much when you decided to stop coming to visit the pack and now I understand why. The mate bond has been pulling us together for longer than you or I can properly realize." I spoke with soft, gentle words to try and ease her as best as I could.
She opened her eyes half way before leaning in to kiss me. I kissed her back without hesitation and within seconds, I had her body underneath mine once more.
I had pulled off my shirt and returned to kissing Amethia when the door to my room opened without warning.
"Narien, have you seen Amethi-" Amethia's father looked in as both mine and Amethia's eyes went wide, our faces flushing red with embarrassment. "Oh." He said, as he realized what he'd walked in on.
"H-hi dad..." Amethia said with a deflated voice.
"I'm going to just... yeah." He said before closing the door behind him.
I fell backwards and away from Amethia. "f*****g-" I cursed at myself before covering my face with my arms. Amethia's father had only caught us kissing, but I was shirtless and knew that things were about to get steamy.
Amethia giggled. "Yes." She said.
"Huh?" I questioned, sitting back up.
Her smile pierced my heart. She gave me the most loving look before speaking. "Yes Narien, I'll marry you."
