The next few days passed by extremely slowly. I was also upset at not being able to leave the pack house when it was finally sunny outside. I knew it wasn't the end of the world as the sun isn't going away any time soon, it just sucked being inside all day. Eventually I was allowed into the yard to relax and read, but nothing further than that.
I was laying in the luscious grass outside the pack house one day, watching the clouds blow by overhead when my vision was blocked by Narien.
"You're still here?" He asked with an eyebrow raised.
I rolled my eyes and sat up. "Where else would I go?" I asked him.
"Home?" He seemed confused at my question.
I laughed. "Trust me, I'd love to go home. But I just finally got yard privileges."
He walked so that he was standing in front of me now. "So... you're here because someone is making you stay here?"
It then occurred to me that Narien still didn't recognize me. "Oh," I mumbled. "Right, you've forgotten who I am."
He then crouched down to my height while sitting. "Saying I've forgotten you implies that I knew you in the first place."
I nodded my head. "Right, so you're crazy then."
He grimaced at my words. "I am not. I'm the next Alpha, I can't be crazy."
"Okay so then you're just a jerk." I rolled my eyes once more.
There was a long pause and I thought that he was going to leave but instead the lunatic future Alpha continued to interrogate me. "I don't get it; did we go to school together or something?"
I shrugged. "Not really?"
"What is that supposed to mean?" He demanded angrily.
I took a deep breath in and exhaled slowly. Narien sure was something else. Something I was getting bored with and FAST. "Well we were never in the same classes due to the fact that you're a couple years older than me."
Narien fell back, clutching his knees to his chest. "Wait," he said. "So, you're upset I don't know who you are when all we did was attend the same school for a brief period of time?"
I stood up and scoffed. "I'm done talking to you Narien." I then began to walk away.
"Wait, I still don't get it!" He called after me, standing up. "Why are you saying all these things? Acting like I should know you or something?"
I turned back towards him and crossed my arms. "Because you should know who I am. I can't tell if you're playing a game or what but it's really starting to get on my nerves."
"Then why don't you just tell me who you are instead of getting pissed off like you are?" He asked angrily.
"Because who wouldn't know that I'm the disgraced daughter of your pack's Beta? I'm pissed off Narien because of all people here I'd hope that my childhood best friend would at least remember me." I shouted in response.
"What are you talking about?" He asked. "What do you mean childhood friend?"
"Oh my GOD! Do I have to spell it out for you?" I approached him once more waving my arms in the air. I pointed to one side. "Alpha, your dad." Now to the other side. "His Beta, my dad." I brought my two hands together. "They are best friends. As they get older they have children with their mates. Your dad has you, Narien. My dad has my two brothers, Katston and Torka, and then me, Amethia. Because you and Torka are the same age and my mother DIED, our two families hung out together. You and me? We became best friends!" Tears filled my eyes as I explained everything. "So forgive me oh so all-important-Alpha-to-be if I'm upset that you're either playing a really hurtful game or truly just threw away all of our happy memories like they meant absolutely nothing to you."
Narien blinked a few times. "I-I'm sorry Amethia. I just truly don't remember any of that."
I pushed my lips together, unable to look him in the eyes. Tears began to spill down my face. "That's fine. Just leave me alone then, would you?" Before I could hear his response I'd already run back inside the pack house and buried my face in my pillow.
---
I only came out of my room once I knew it was time for dinner. I'd wiped my face with a damp towel while examining my appearance. My blue eyes appeared clearer than ever but I knew that was because I had just been crying. My face was now all puffy making my freckles more apparent than before. My jet-black hair was a mess from my pillow and I tried my best to straighten it out so that I looked somewhat normal.
When I entered the kitchen, my Aunties could tell that I seemed off, but none of them decided to pry. Instead, they did their best to cheer me up with stories or gossip, and it did work. When dinner was ready I sat with them at the table and listened to their conversations once more when I finally caught Narien's gaze fixed on me.
I did my best to give him a death glare and that seemed to get my point across as he quickly looked away.
"Those two look so cute together," Nancy remarked when she trailed my eye line.
I blinked, looking to her. "Who?" I asked gingerly.
"Narien and Ithalia." She replied. "Our future Alpha and Luna?"
I nodded. "Oh, right. I haven't met Ithalia yet."
"Truly incredible that the two of them found each other in this world." Ranie added.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"They're both mateless. It's incredibly rare so when two wolves without mates are able to find one another in this world it's almost as if the Moon Goddess made them mates without the mate bond." Karrie continued.
"I'm surprised you didn't know, Amethia." Lathia said. "It seems like they're the hottest source of gossip in your age group."
I shrugged my shoulders. "I wouldn't know. I only really talk to Laila, and she's busy lately talking about her own mate." I laughed, eating a spoonful of my dinner.
The conversation then shifted to that of Laila finding her mate and discussing which other wolves around my age had found their mates yet.
"Have your brothers found their mates yet?" Ranie asked me.
I shook my head. "No, not yet. Dad keeps saying it'll be sometime soon though."
"Yes, they are both around the age most of us found our mates." Nancy nodded. "I wonder if you have a mate, Amethia."
My heart dropped at the thought. "I don't think so. I'm nothing special so I'd feel bad if I was the mate to some incredibly powerful Werewolf."
The four women erupted in cries around me. "Don't say that!" Nancy pouted.
"I'm sure you have a mate just like your mother did!" Karrie added.
"Your whole family is full of Werewolves, though you're not one yourself you are still blessed by the Moon Goddess." Ranie spoke gently.
The others agreed with her. I smiled at their genuine words. While I didn't think that I could possibly have a mate, I guess I am still the product of a Werewolf. I then shuddered at the thought. I don't think I really want to be mated.
The night wound down once more and Lathia stood by to make sure I didn't try to do the dishes like I had every night prior. It was almost like a fun little game we had between the two of us. I decided to turn in early when I bumped into someone on the stairs. She had the most beautiful, sparkling grey eyes and beautiful silver hair to match it. Her beauty seemed unparalleled. I tried to apologize but instead felt my mouth agape and struggle to make a sound.
"Can I help you?" She asked menacingly.
"O-oh I'm sorry." I finally made out, my eyes darting to the ground in front of me.
I could hear her sigh. "Oh right, you're that puny weak little human, aren't you? Well I'm Ithalia. Nice to meet you." She jutted out her hand exactly where I could see it.
I shook her hand in return. "Amethia. Nice to meet you too." I mumbled in response.
"Well," she mused, stepping around me. "I'm going to get going back to my place. If you ever need anything just let me know, okay?"
I was shocked by this relatively stranger's kindness towards me. Though she had also insulted me just a minute beforehand. "Um, thanks. I appreciate that."
She then walked away waving her hand nonchalantly in the air. "Bye Amethia."
"B-bye," I muttered out, turning and continuing my ascension up the small staircase.
