Chapter 10

I woke up the next morning exactly where I'd fallen asleep: atop Narien. Except I was being woken up by his mother, and Luna of our pack, Kaeala. She had a grand smile on her face while both Narien and I roused, jumping apart from one another. "Mother!" Narien shouted, his face going red. "My dear boy is there something you've neglected to tell me?" She asked slyly. "Y-you told Marsen but not your own mother?" I shot daggers with my eyes. Narien fumbled for words for a moment. "I just... forgot. It wasn't intentional, I swear!" He shouted out. Kaeala stood tall and proud. "I'm so glad that my son is still finding his way in life despite being mateless." "Mom... I'm not actually mateless." Narien mumbled. Her eyes immediately shot to me. "Amethia... what is he talking about?" My eyes widened. "D-don't look at me! I'm just a human!" I threw my hands up defensively. There was a pause before Kaeala enveloped me in a hug. I hesitated before slowly hugging her back. She let out a small sob before releasing me. When she drew back her eyes were full of tears but a giant smile remained on her face. "I already knew, your father told me. This was more of a dig at my own son for supposedly forgetting to tell his own parents that the Goddess truly did bless him with a mate." "Oh, well... Yeah." I replied, glaring at Narien once more. He merely offered a shrug in response. "My only question is why you two haven't announced this to the pack yet. We should be organizing a wedding already!" She exclaimed happily. I felt my hands go clammy at the thought. The dreaded thought from last night that already had me freeze once. A topic I still wasn't ready to approach. Everything was going way faster than I wanted it to be going. Narien stepped in when he saw my reaction. "Mother, Amethia is still getting used to the idea. Remember, she may have grown up around us Wolves but she does not have one of her own." "Ah, right right." Kaeala nodded, listening to her son. "My, my, what a son I have! Behaving just as an Alpha should!" She pinched his cheeks. "I'll leave you two alone. Breakfast is already ready so do try to make an appearance at some point." And with that she was gone. I let out a sigh of relief before turning to Narien. "At least she didn't call me the L-word." I giggled. Narien looked at me and smiled. He took this as his chance to pounce on top of me and pin my arms above me. "What's so bad about it?" He asked with a devious grin on his face. My face immediately flushed. "H-hey!" I struggled to escape from his grasp but it was no use. Narien truly was an Alpha. "I just don't like being called it yet!" He leaned in close to my ear and whispered. "What if I only call you my Luna when we're in private?" I shook my head furiously. "That's not fair!" "Why? Because it makes you melt when I say it? Just admit it, Amethia. You hate it coming from other people, but from me it makes your heart pound." He continued to whisper. I locked eyes with him. "It's not fair!" He continued to grin. Goddess, he truly was a handsome devil. "You may be shy about the whole thing, Amethia. But make no mistake. You are my mate and therefore one day you will be my Luna." He kissed my cheek and released me quickly. What a jerk! I took my chances and struck back by catching him off guard and pinning him down by his chest. While I knew he could easily brush me off of him, he looked up at me with wide eyes and a blush drawn across his face. "Don't." I said firmly. "You're my Alpha and you will do as I say." His blush grew deeper and he pulled me to his chest with his large arms. "You make me so weak, Amethia." We stayed like this for a few moments longer before we both decided to get up. Without saying another word to Narien, I went back to my own room to change into some decent clothing before making my appearance at breakfast. I chose a white t-shirt and blue jeans, nothing fancy, and headed down to eat. My father and Narien's father spent almost the entire time talking before my father helped him into his fancy new wheelchair and the two went off to spend their day relaxing somewhere else. I guess they could be considered retired at this point. I laughed at that. Wolf retirement. Narien was beckoned away by Marsen and before I knew it, I was alone washing dishes with Kaeala. "How much have you and Narien discussed?" She asked, breaking the silence between us. I must've looked confused because she continued without prompting. "About how you're going to go about, well, everything?" "Oh, well..." I began. "I've only really asked that he give me some time and space so that I can try and make sense of my feelings." "Right. I was always curious about how your mother thought of these things as well. Care to elaborate?" She took a dish from the soapy sink and rinsed it down. I nodded my head, taking aforementioned dish and drying it with a tea towel. "Well, I sometimes feel like I'm at war with myself. I explained it to Narien as my heart versus my brain, and my dad as my logical side versus my illogical side." Kaeala handed me yet another dish. "Part of me just wants to give in to everything, to fall deeper in love and get married as soon as possible. To show to everyone our bond. The other part of me is rational. It's freaking out at the idea of loving someone because the universe said so. To get married so quickly makes that side of me panic. What if something happens? What if..." I paused for a second. "What if Narien forgets me again?" "Ah there it is." Kaeala said without missing a beat. "That must be a pretty big fear, huh?" I nodded my head slowly, my hands pressed inside the damp towel. "It hurt so much last time. We were so close as kids and then he just... didn't even know me. If it hurt as much as it did because of a childhood friendship, how much more will it hurt when I actually love him?" She handed me the last dish before pulling the plug on the soapy water. "It won't hurt, my dear, because it won't happen. Ithalia cannot harm either of you while she's locked up, and I doubt she'll be running free within our pack anytime soon." She sighed. "I can't believe I let that little witch into our home," she added under her breath. I nodded, realizing that she was right. Ithalia was the reason for everything before. She was the one who kept Narien and I apart, because she knew about our bond before we did. We still needed to get to the bottom of how Narien even forgot me in the first place. This wasn't something she accomplished on her own, at least I didn't think she did. I also had to take solace in the fact that Narien was regaining his memories. They weren't lost forever, and if he forgot me again, I would do everything in my power to make him remember. That's right! That would be my purpose in life then, to make him remember me and fall back in love with me because we were truly fated for one another. "You're right," I nodded slowly after coming to my realization, placing the plate on the drying rack. "Thank you, for listening to me." "Of course, anything for my future daughter-in-law." She then side hugged me. "Now! What other wisdom can I pass down onto you my dear? I am still technically the Luna, you know. At least until you decide to show your face to everyone else. I laughed. "When I have any questions, I'll be sure to come to you." I said softly. "Good, good. Alright, I'm going to head up to my study to do the pack's finances since my son still isn't very good at it. Do you want me to show you?" She asked. I nodded my head. Kaeala smiled, motioning me to follow her. "I'll do my best to teach you, but this should mostly be Narien's job. Don't let him dump this on you." I laughed. "I'll do my best." Narien returned in the late afternoon, and by then Kaeala and I had gone our seperate ways for the day. She'd gone to tend to her garden while I sat inside reading a book. I perked up when I saw Narien come through the door and smiled brightly at him. "Welcome home!" I said cheerily. His face immediately brightened up. "Amethia, you have no idea how happy you just made me by saying that." I smiled. "I have a bit of an idea." He approached me on the couch, removing his shoes quickly before wrapping his arms around me. "Oh, how I've missed you!" He exclaimed, nuzzling his nose into the space where my neck met my shoulder. "I had a nice conversation with your mother today. It made me feel a lot more at ease, and helped me understand everything a bit better, I think." I said. "Oh?" He questioned sitting up. "I'm not ready to announce it to the whole pack yet, but I do know that I have accepted the idea, or, the fact that we are mated to one another." I continued. Narien kissed me at this. "That... that makes me so happy." He replied with a grandiose smile on his face. "I can't wait to make you mine, Amethia. Make you mine through more than just the Mate Bond, I mean." "You mean like... marriage?" I asked carefully. He blinked a few times, before rubbing his back bashfully. "Yeah. I just didn't want to say it outright since you didn't reply to me last night and you got really awkward with my mom this morning." "I guess, yeah..." I bit my lip. "But I am willing to have that conversation. As long as we're not married tomorrow, I mean, I do want to marry you." Narien smiled brightly. "I want to marry you too, but I want to do it on your terms. I love-" He was cut off by Marsen barging in the front door. "Alpha! There you are!" Narien growled. "I shut you out of the mindlink for a reason, Marsen. This had better be good." "It should be discussed in priv-" "No!" Narien boomed. "Anything you have to say to me you can say in front of my mate." Marsen nodded. "We brought a pack doctor to Ithalia as her rogues requested." "And?" Narien demanded. "Alpha, she's pregnant."
