CHAPTER 27Willard Bates greeted them with a knowing grin and a glint of suspicion. "You folks leavin' like you said?" "Maybe later," Amy answered. "Right now, I'm too tired to drive." She shot a look of annoyance at her silent partner. Bates' smile disappeared. "Whatsa matter? Can't you drive?" he said to Henry. "Oh yeah," he said, "Only I'm too tired, too." He avoided Amy's eyes.
