4 Vanessa The front door clicked shut behind me. I didn’t hear any sound of footsteps or any voice calling out from the living room. The house was quiet. Too quiet. I set my purse down carefully on the hallway table and slipped off my heels, my eyes daring around. My heart beat loud in my ears. The air was stiff and hard to breathe in when I stepped inside, and it just made me extra cautious. Maybe because of what I had done just few hours back. I was walking up the stairs as quiet as I could. Maybe he was already asleep, or maybe he wasn’t home yet but if he wasn’t home yet then he’d had informed me beforehand.
