The unexpected I DO

- Hello ? Natalyssa said with the phone between her shoulder and cheek as she got out of the elevator and also tried to search for her keys. - Hello, can you hear me? she said again realizing that the connection must've been cut while she was in the elevator, and immediately she heard the noise of the line being interrupted. - Great, she said to herself, I didn't even heard who it was. As she continued to look for the keys in her bag, the phone started ringing again. - Hello? - Hi, is this Ms Natalyssa Light? she heard a young woman ask at the other end. - Yes, she replied a little cautious. Who is this? - Ms Light, my name is Sara, and I am Dr Perry's assistant. I hope I'm not disturbing you, the assistant paused. - N-No, Natalyssa stuttered a little, why are you calling? she asked with both fear and curiosity in her voice. She hasn't heard that doctor's name for almost five years now, what could this be about, she thought to herself. - Ms Light, I am calling you as Dr Perry would like to invite you to a meeting tomorrow morning, if possible. I know it is rather on a short notice, but we assure you it regards a very serious matter. - Natalyssa was stunned for a few seconds, then replied - why can't you tell me through call right now, or send me an e-mal, I really don't think there is anything more I need from Dr Perry, her nerves starting to raise. - Ms Light, I completely understand how busy you must be, but like I said, this is an extremely serious matter, and Dr Perry want to give you some very important information, and I'm sure you can understand it cannot be done via mail, or call. Natalyssa tried her best to keep her calm as truly the assistant was not at fault in any way. - Ok, what time should I be there, she asked finally. - 9 AM Ms. The doctor will be expecting you. Thank you and have a lovely evening. - Thank you. Natalyssa replied and hang up the phone. However casual she may have seemed during the call, the shock kept her struck in the same spot on the hallway - every piece of memory came back to her in the blink of an eye, and she just couldn't fight them back into the box she had enclosed them almost 5 years ago. No, they need to stay there, she needs to recollect her calm, she said to herself, being well aware that she was merely lying to herself. Finally she found her keys and entered her apartment. - Hi mommy, her daughter sauntered in her arms as soon as she closed the door. I've missed you today, you know?! her little girl continued with a smiling face and kissed her mother on the cheek. - Hey baby, Natalyssa said hugging her baby back, how was school today? And where is your brother, she continued looking around. - School was great mom, you know we are excellent students, stop worrying about that. Denis is in his room reading. - Ok, Natalyssa smiled back at her daughter, did you ate? - Of course mom. We wanted to wait for you, but we saw that you will be home late, so we had diner together. - Ok, that's great baby, Natalyssa said. Now, go and get ready for bed, and I will come to tuck you in in a few minutes. - Ok mom, Raisa smiled and kissed her mother's cheek again. - Hey Denis, Natalyssa said entering her son's room. How are you? - Hi mom, I'm good - reading, he said motioning to the book in his hands.  - Everything ok at school? she asked.  - Of course mom, you already heard Raisa, he said smiling.  - I'm glad them baby, I'll let you r******w, but get to bed in half an hour, ok? - Ok mom, I will. - Good night baby, Natalyssa said closing the door to his room. - Night  night mom, she heard him respond. - I'm ready mom, her daughter said as she was getting out of the bathroom and directing to the bed. - Ok Raisa, have a good night baby girl, Natalyssa said kissing her daughter's forehead. Then she closed the light and got out of the room. - She loved these peaceful evening with her kids, they were really good children and she felt so blessed to have them, she thought, but then a shadow of sadness passed through her veins - if only Anna would've been here too - then it would've been truly a perfect evening. This thought was ripping her heart apart, as the newly revived memories of Anna came back to her and she felt as if Anna was before her that instant. Forcing herself to ignore these memories, she went to her room, got out of her clothes and as the water filled the bathtub she looked at herself in the mirror - hey eyes were the same emerald green as forever, but they had lost their sparkle, her jet black hair still the same for years now- she looked as the thick curls were falling around her shoulders now that they have been set free from her usual bun, her caramel skin looked still as 5 years ago though the scars were also there never letting her forget; she admired herself - toned, with a fair silhouette but rather curvy than plane, and yet as beautiful as people saw her, she just couldn't - all she saw were the mistakes she had made, the hurt, the lies that changed her to the core and the scars that were her most precious lesson ever. Coming back from her reverie, she got under the hot water knowing that no matter how much she will scrub, her mistakes cannot be undone by washing. She tried closing her eyes and relax, but as she did Anna appeared again before her - her white glowing skin that made her look as is she was nothing but a fairy, her turquoise eyes, her black curls - she was there again...- Anna, Natalyssa whispered and instantly jumped from the bathtub as if a jolt of electricity had passed through her. She shacked her head, got her bathrobe and got into her bed. She almost felt chills even though the nights were very hot this summer. Damn these memories and this doctor who with one call had resuscitated them again. She closed her eyes and tried to sleep, or at least rest for the next day. The sun was slowly rising and Natalyssa was not in the best mood as she had barely slept tormented by so many painful memories.. - Why, why now, why ever, why ?? she asked to herself with a raspy and sad voice... She got up and went to the kitchen. She started the coffee machine and prepared 2 omelets for the kids breakfast, then went to the bath to take a shower and get ready for the day. After she set her makeup, almost invisible if it was not for the cat eyes to make it obvious, she got dressed in a emerald dress that matched her eyes and also fitted her body perfectly showing just the right amount of both legs and cleavage, she put of the roze-gold earrings she had received from her kids for Mothers Day and finally her matching watch. She then chose to wear a pair of simple black stilettos and decided to leave her hair loose, though she was rarely seen with her fair flooding down on her back - she even got amazed that it had grown so much - it almost reached her ass. Picking up her tailor, got her bag and went to find her children that had already ate and got ready for school - she was amazed at how disciplined they were - sometimes she felt she was like the kid as was way messier than both of them. - Ready for school, do you need anything today, she asked them ? - No mom, we got everything, ready to go, they both said smiling at her. - Let's go then, she said and closed the door behind them. - Are you ok mom, asked Denis while the elevator descended?  - Of course I'm ok baby, why? - I don't know, you just seem tired and preoccupied, he replied in a lower tone. - To tell the truth I didn't slept that well Denis, but I'm ok, I promise, she said smiling at her son. She needs to maintain her spirit, as they don't need to worry about her. - Ok mom, hope you don't have much to do today, so you don't get too tired, Denis continued. - Don't worry baby, I don't have anything important on the agenda today, so I will not get to tired today, ok?? she said again smiling at both of them. - Great mom, Raisa added smiling.  They got in the car and Natalyssa drive towards their school. - Bye kids, have a wonderful day, she said at them a little higher than usual, trying to appear in a joyful state for them. - Bye mom, thanks, and have a great day at work yourself. She sat there in the car line a little more than needed, trying to ignore her next stop. She arrived before the clinic almost in no time, like she wasn't even driving herself. - Hello, I have a meeting with Dr Perry, she informed the receptionist in the hallway. - Hi Ms Light, welcome, replied the young assistant. Come with me, I will show you to Dr Perry's office, the assistant added.  - Thank you. In front of the door a dreadful feeling passed through her veins again, but she tried her best to escape it and pressed the doorknob. She took a few steps inside and closed the door behind her, but when she turned to face the doctor she was left struck to see the one person she never wanted to see in her life. She stood there rooted, next to the door, looking straight into his eyes and feeling like she just jumped into an ice lake. Finally after a few second she managed to part her look from him, and asked the doctor - What is HE doing here ? - What is this? she added with almost shaking and fearful voice. - What is happening? she finished? - Hello Ms Light, the doctor stood immediately from his desk and went to take her hand. Please come in, I will inform you in a few moment why I asked you to come here and also why Mr Zays presence is also important. Please have a seat, and clam down, he said again with a gentle voice. - Almost like a puppet she was seated next to the man she never wanted to see again, and unwillingly she started hyperventilating, as if she was having a panic attack. - No she said in her head, these panic attacks had stopped long ago, NO, she said to herself again trying to recover her breath. - Hey, please calm down, she heard his voice saying gently and at the same time his hand caressed her knee. - without uttering a word she looked him dead in the eyes, and seeing that he retreated his hand. Its ok, he added even lower than before, almost like a whisper. After a few seconds she seemed to be in a better state, so the doctor went behind his desk and sat before them, with a very preoccupied look on his face, as if he was trying to find the best words to express. Finally he said with a very recollected tone - Like I said, Ms Light, Mr Zays, I have asked for both your presences here as there are some very important information that you need to know. they both nodded with anxiety. - This matter relates to the DNA test you have asked us to complete almost 5 years ago, he said directly. They stood in silence waiting for the doctor to continue. - At the time you had submitted the samples for testing, the result showed that the baby Ms Light was carrying was not related to you Ms Zays, the doctor said looking at the man but feeling the anger adding up on the woman's face he continued immediately - however we have recently discovered that those samples were tampered with before the testing, so that result was not correct. We have recently redone the analysis, and it turned out that indeed the baby Ms Light was carrying is 100% related to you Mr Zays, he ended. After a few instants of pure shock, he boomed - WHAT ?? WHAT THE f**k ARE YOU TELLING ME?? IS THIS  A JOKE CAUSE ITS NOT A FUNNY ONE I ASSURE YOU ?!? WHAT THE f**k ??? Xavier boomed getting up from his chair and taking a menacing stance towards the doctor. - Mr Zays, I understand this is a shock for you, but please let me finish, let me explain what happened. Please try to stay calm, I understand your reaction, but I need to to explain everything. - Xavier fought with himself to regain control and stay as calm as possible; sitting back again he loosened his tie who seemed to suffocate him now. - A few months ago we have received a complaint from another client, who accused us of medical error, as the test he had asked 5 years ago showed that the child his wife carried at the time was not his, and our result was that it was not; however this person had sent samples for testing to several clinics, as he needed at least 3 done at the time, so when the other 2 test showed that the kid was his, but ours the opposite, he filed this complaint against us. I will spear you every little detail, but finally this has led to a criminal investigation and so we discovered that when you submitted your samples, your blood was switched with a sample from another analysis kit (which was that persons kit). This turned our to be an intentional act done by an assistant that was in an internship in our clinic at the time. as he finished they were both stunned, Xavier looking he just saw UFOs, and Natalyssa crying without even realizing the tears that flooded her face and were now starting to drop on her dress... - This i=cannot be for real, Xavier whispered, this is a dream and I'm gonna weak up...he continued... what the actual f**k??? he looked in front of him, like he wasn't even seeing the doctor or anything else.. In an instance he heard Natalyssa's cry, and looked toward her with a look that didn't even know what to express... Suddenly she asked - WHO ?? - Who what Ms? the doctor asked confused. - WHO DID THIS? - I WANT HER NAME!!! she greeted through her teeth. - Ms... I cannot give such information... the doctor tried to say... - THE HELL YOU CAN'T Xavier boomed again, tell us who thought it was ok to f**k with this kind of thing. I WANT HER NAME NOW!!! he continued. - the doctor looked from him to her and then lowered his shoulders - look all I can give you is her name, but I do not have access to more myself - the file is with the police ... he paused ... her name is Lucy Matthews. - Xavier looked strangely at the doctor as trying to search for a memory...from where did he knew that name?? he is sure he has heard it somewhere before, but he didn't say nothing to the doctor or Natalyssa. He will remember for sure, but now he needed to focus here. Natalyssa was still crying, it wasn't even that shocking to her, as she knew very well who the father of her baby was, on that matter she never had a doubt - but the fact a person switched their samples intentionally was unbelievably cruel - How can someone do such a thing she whispered more to herself, but they heard her.. - Ms Light, I would love to have more details for you, but is all the police told me to inform you of. Maybe you can ask for the file from them.. he continued slowly like he was trying to ease her suffering... - We will find out, I will find out why, Xavier said makin her looked at him again. - YOU wil find out ...she started mocking him... WHY??? WHY would you care to know anything now ?? she raised her voice at him. You cannot change the past, she added.  - But I have to find out Natalyssa, and I want to know my baby...I...he stuttered not knowing how to continue, but she immediately cut him off - NO!!! she yelled. She needed a way out. Then she said without thinking - this was pointless anyway as I had an abortion after you left me. - WHAT are you saying?? He boomed... NO you didn't, don't lie to me. I may have left you, but I know when you're lying. He said straight to her face. - Really??? Like you knew I wasn't lying when I told you the baby is yours?? Are you serious now??? She spitted back. You know what, knowing you I bet this whole scheme was orchestrated by YOU, she gritted to his face. Leaving without words for a few moments,  she took advantage and asked the doctor - Is there anything else ? - Well, if you need to discuss compensation for this incident, we are of course  willing to respond to any request you may have, but other than that no, the doctor who had watched their furious exchange said. - NO, I DO NOT WANT OR NEED any compensation. Thank you! immediately she took her purse and left the office, but as he got out she rested against the wall as the immensity of everything that happened in those 4 walls was threatening to burry her alive right there... she fought to regain her posture when Xavier too exited the cabinet and in a second was next to her.. He intended to ague with her, but seeing her state he reconsidered, and just took her hand trying to caress her, to calm her...but in that moment she started falling, so he managed to caught her in his arms before. - Hey, he whispered softly connecting his forehead to hers, its gonna be ok, c'mon he continued while he was carrying her out of the clinic. Once they were out, he went and sat on a bench installed in the shadow of a tree that was meant to keep them shadow. - We will sort it thru he said again to her ear. Coming back to her senses, Nicole jolted away from his arms, but also stammering due to the shock, Xavier managing to keep her steady once again...but letting go as soon as she was steady. - DO NOT TOUCH ME!! I already told you that once today. Stop and leave me the f**k alone, she said to his face. - Look, wether you like it or not we need to talk, to clarify this s**t, I need to.. - To what, she cut him?? the answer is NO. Do not dare bother me, and especially my kids. - So you did lie about the abortion, he suddenly said.. - What?? She asked.. IT DOESN'T MATTER... STAY AWAY, she added and took her leave. She immediately got into her car, locked the doors and drove away.  - He stood there watching as she left, but with no intention to let things go this time. He will find a way to meet his baby, to become a part of his life and to have her back, he said under his breath, shocking himself with the last thought. But a shocking as it is, its was equally true - he wanted her. Now he has to think on how he will achieve that... he got into the car and drove home.
