A New Friend

I woke up and looked around the room to find I was alone, so I went over to my suitcase to get clothes for the day and walked into the bathroom. I turned the shower on and got in to get ready for the day. After I showered, I got dressed, and french braided my hair. That’s when I heard the bedroom door open and walked out to find Steven.

“Good morning” I said smiling.

“Good morning, did you sleep well?” He replied.

Before I could answer my stomach growled, he chuckled and took my hand leading outside the room and down stairs. We made it to a huge dining area he had me sit down while he went and made us plates. He came back with eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, and some fruit for the both of us. It tasted as good as it smelled.

As I was eating I noticed everyone staring at me again and I tried to hide my face feeling uncomfortable. Steven must have glared at them or mind linked them since they went back to eating and talking. I happily finished my breakfast with all eyes off of me. It felt like today was going to be a good day until Steven said we needed to talk after breakfast.

We finished eating and he took my little hand in his for us to go on a walk and talk. That’s when I learned that he was my uncle, no wonder I felt so safe with him. And that I would be starting the first-grade tomorrow, I’ve never gone to school before. I've always been homeschooled with us moving from place to place. It was pointless, so this made me a little nervous.

The rest of the day was spent showing me around and introducing me to pack members. I got to see the pack school where I would be going. We only had an elementary school, after we would attend normal school off pack land. He showed me where the pack warriors train, along with the newly turned wolves so they can learn to control themselves. I was excited about this. I could still train, but I would just do it on my own. I don’t know if they wanted me to. They probably wanted me to start acting like a normal little kid. Soon it was time for lunch, and after lunch I would meet some of the children that I would see at school tomorrow.

Meeting kids my age was nice and a lot of them seem friendly, that is until I was left alone with them until dinner. The alpha’s son Noah told them I was a rogue and not to be trusted. They didn’t want to play with me or be near me after that. So, I got up to walk away to be pushed down, by you guessed it Noah. I sized him up making sure I knew what I was going to do to get out of this. I started to get up to be pushed down again, so I swiped my leg under his feet, knocking him down and took off. I wasn’t looking to start trouble, but I wasn’t going to be picked on either.

I ran into the woods and just kept running until I came upon a waterfall to sit by and think, it was peaceful. I sat here for a while replaying the events that just took place when Uncle Steven found me, and boy did I get an earful. All the kids said I attacked Noah and left. So, I was in trouble for that and then for coming here, since the woods weren’t safe.

I tried to explain but I wasn’t allowed, it was the alpha’s son and all the other kids' words against mine. I should have known he wouldn’t believe me even if we were family, they are his family also and they have been for a lot longer. He took my hand and started to lead me back to the pack house and up to Alpha Michael’s office. He knocked before we entered to find both the Alpha and his son, Noah was covered in bruises and scratches.

I looked right at Alpha Michael and said I didn’t do that to him, all I did was knock him down to get away from him. I told him that everyone was nice until we were alone, and then he told them I was a rogue and kept pushing me when I tried to leave. So, I had no choice but to knock him down and run, I finished off saying he was fine when I left.

Alpha Michael looked down at his son who was trying to hide from his glare. He must have known his son was lying about what happened. Noah was made to apologize and sent to his room until called down for dinner. I was told not to take matters into my own hands and sent to my room until dinner was ready as well.

I’ve been on the run and learning to defend myself for years and now I’m just supposed to forget that. Fat chance that’s going to happen my father always told me know your worth and never let anyone make you forget it. I’m worth a lot more than to be that boy’s doormat for him to torture and make my life more hell. I started to pace my room getting worked up over being punished for defending myself when the door opened.

It was a little girl she looked like she was my age, but I don’t remember seeing her earlier. I learned her name was Nova and she was Noah’s twin sister. She was nothing like her brother. She was sweet, and we were becoming friends fast. Then I remembered I was in trouble and shouldn’t have a guest right now. She understood and said she would see me at dinner and we could eat together. I was over the moon, I made a friend.

Soon I was called to dinner, I searched for Nova to find her, by her brother and father. She waved us over and had a spot saved for us both. Noah didn’t look very happy that we knew each other but alpha Michael looked happy. We ate dinner and talked about the ceremony that we would do after dinner and school.

I found out I would be in her class, Noah would be there too, but he would be put across the room seeing as we have already had a confrontation. I was feeling a little better about going to school knowing I would have a friend to show me around and help me through first day jitters. Soon we were done eating and it was time for the ceremony to accept me into the pack.

The ceremony was small and fast, with me being so young I didn’t have to do or say much. I just had to say that I accepted alpha Michael as my alpha and they cut our palms and I shook his hand. When we did this, I felt a warm feeling like I was home and with family. They quickly bandaged my hand since I wouldn’t heal as quickly and ended the night since there was school tomorrow.

I went to my room and changed and got ready for bed. Steven came in and told the story of the golden wolf again. This time I made it to the end, it was a nice short story and I found my eyes getting heavy after the long day I had. Uncle Steven kissed my head and left me to fall fast asleep.

Nova came in to wake me up and have us get ready together. It was nice having someone to hang out with and help me adjust. She helped me pick out an outfit I didn’t have many that still fit so we went to her closet and she gave me one of hers to wear. I braided the underside of my head and put my hair in pigtail buns. Nova really liked it, so I did the same to hers, and then we headed down for breakfast.

Breakfast was a big buffet again, I loaded my plate with bacon and pancakes and grabbed a glass of orange juice. Nova told me about our teacher Mrs. Mallory while she ate. Noah was glaring at me the whole time, when Nova saw and yelled at him. We finished up and uncle Steven brought me a backpack and walked us to the school to finish enrolling me.

Then I was off to Mrs. Mallory’s classroom, which Nova saved me a seat right next to her. We were all given worksheets to start off the morning, looking down mom taught me this 2 years ago, so I was finished with it in no time. Mrs. Mallory took my worksheet and graded it, she wanted me to stay with her while everyone goes out to play later. After everyone had finished they went out to play and Mrs. Mallory gave me a new worksheet to try.

Some of the questions were really easy. I remember doing them on the road, while some I was just learning when the accident happened, and others were hard, and I didn’t understand. But I wasn’t too worried. I was told this was just a placement test she wanted to see where I was at, so everything wouldn’t be too easy for me. I finished what I could and returned the paper. When she graded it, she looked somewhat surprised with how I did.

The rest of the day went by pretty fast, I got a different worksheet then everyone else when one was passed out. I had to stay after and wait for uncle Steven to talk with my teacher about my placement test. It turns out I am at a fourth-grade level and was going to be changing classes. I’d rather just be homeschooled like before maybe I can convince them so I’m not the smallest in my class. We went back to the pack house where Nova and Noah were waiting for me outside. I knew why Nova was waiting but why was her brother. I reluctantly told them why I had to stay behind, knowing Noah would have something to say about it.

Noah picked on me for the rest of the day about it, he kept calling nerd instead of my name. It was getting annoying, but I promised I would behave and be nice, so I just walked away. Tomorrow I’ll get up early and train, I thought to myself, it will help me calm down and it would be nice to get back to my normal routine.

I ate dinner in silence, and then headed up to my room. When I got there, I saw the closet door was open, I looked in to see it was full of new clothes. I grabbed a pair of pajamas and a workout outfit, I laid the workout outfit off to the side for in the morning and took the pajamas with me to the bathroom. I turned the shower on and brushed my teeth, so water could warm up. I took my shower cleaning off this crappy day and got ready for bed. When uncle Steven came in I was already laying down almost asleep. He kissed my head like he’s done every night and went back out of my room.
