[8] 2 EYES

609 Words
Detective Evelyn Ross sat in her office, replaying the events of the previous night in her mind. She was certain the masked figure who had attacked her was Samantha. The brutal confrontation had left her bruised and bloodied, but her determination to catch the second phantom remained unshaken. She was deep in thought when her phone rang. The voice on the other end was unmistakably sinister. "Detective Ross," the voice said, "meet me at the place where you first confronted Samantha." Evelyn's heart skipped a beat. "Charlotte?" "Yes," Charlotte replied. "I have something to show you. Don't keep me waiting." Evelyn wasted no time, grabbing her coat and heading out. The location Charlotte mentioned was an old factory on the outskirts of town, where she had first encountered Samantha. As she approached, the dim lighting and eerie silence amplified her anxiety. She stepped inside, her flashlight cutting through the darkness. "Charlotte?" she called out. A figure stepped into the light, the familiar mask hiding her face. Slowly, Charlotte removed the mask, revealing her identity. Evelyn gasped, her mind racing. "You... you're supposed to be dead." Charlotte smirked. "I’m very much alive, Detective." Before Evelyn could react, another figure emerged from the shadows. It was Samantha, wearing her own grotesque mask. The tension in the room was palpable. Samantha moved with a deliberate slowness, her eyes fixed on Charlotte and Evelyn. "What is this?" Evelyn demanded, her voice steady despite the chaos around her. Samantha ignored her, pulling out a bottle of bleach. She began to pour it over herself, the acrid smell filling the air. "Samantha, stop!" Evelyn shouted, rushing towards her, but it was too late. Samantha struck a match and set herself ablaze. The flames engulfed her quickly, and Evelyn was forced to retreat as the heat intensified. "No!" she cried, but the fire raged on. Charlotte watched with a cold detachment, her face expressionless. As the building began to burn, Evelyn was forced to leave, the flames threatening to consume everything. Samantha, in agony, managed to drag herself out of the building, slipping away into the night. Over the next few months, Samantha hid away, nursing her burns and plotting her return. Her skin, now bleached white and leathery, gave her an even more terrifying appearance. Her hair, charred black, added to her monstrous visage. She watched the news, seeing Charlotte’s face and feeling a deep, burning hatred. Five months later, Samantha was found, barely recognizable. She was taken to the hospital and spent another five months in a coma. When she finally awoke, she removed the bandages, revealing her new appearance. Her skin was white and tough, her hair a blackened mess. The scars on her face had healed, but she recut them, recreating her grotesque smile. As she looked at her reflection, she felt a sense of twisted satisfaction. The girl she once was had been burned away, replaced by something far more terrifying. She was no longer just Samantha; she was a living nightmare. The town had moved on, but the legend of the Faceless Phantom remained. Charlotte continued her own dark work, unaware that Samantha had survived. But Samantha was patient. She would recover, she would plan, and then she would reclaim her place as the true phantom. In the darkness of her room, she whispered to herself, “This isn’t over, Charlotte. Not by a long shot.” Her new face, her new identity, was a symbol of her rebirth. And she would use it to strike fear into the hearts of everyone who had ever doubted her. The hunt was on, and this time, Samantha was more dangerous than ever.
