I perfectly understood Elijah's worry. I had worries of my own, but if I was being honest, this was not the way I wanted to live my life.
"I know this is asking a lot from you," Elijah said softly, and I shrugged.
"It's taking a whole lot from you to be doing all this. And why are you doing all of this though?" I asked, feeling truly baffled. The threats were enormous, and they were all coming to him because I was with him. And his people as well. How could I think being asked to stay indoors weighed more in the balance compared to all of that?
"Because you matter to me? Because I'm not going to sit still while something terrible happens to you. I couldn’t possibly do that to you. I couldn't possibly do that to me either."
