Who was I to complain, when I knew that all that he did and said was for me?
But knowing it was one thing. I really did not have to like it. And I don’t think I did.
“You aren’t saying anything,” Elijah said after the silence had been stretched for too long.
“I know what you’re doing is for me,” I said quietly, not quite meeting his eyes. “But is it wrong that I find it so difficult to adapt to this new normal?”
I met his eyes now, and they were kind as well as concerned.
“No.” He said, shaking his head, “It’s not abnormal that you can’t seem to adapt to this new normal. You’re a strong, independent woman Kylie, and I know that the thought of needing a man beside you for as little as getting groceries doesn’t work for you. I don’t expect it to as well.”
