Chapter 03. THE TRUTH. Selene's POV. I slammed the door open as I returned home. “Damn it, Selene. You scared me.” Maya said, clutching her chest with a hand. “I-I'm sorry.” I said, pacing back and forth while pushing my fingers through my hair. “You barely left half an hour ago, and now your back.” she said, putting her leg down from the couch. “What is going on with you? You seem worked up. Did you get another vision?” “No, no it's not that.” I shook my head, still pacing back and forth. “Then what exactly is going on with you?” she asked. “For you to be this worried, it means that something big happened out there. So are you going to tell me or not?” “Dorian stopped by.” I stopped pacing as I said those words. “Pardon? Who stopped by?” she narrowed her gaze. “Dorian, of course.” I replied, trying to steady my breath. “I-I didn't think he would find me, but he did.” “Where did you see him?” she asked, in a curious tone. “Really?” I made a face. Before leaving, I told her that I was going to the bar. So where else would I have seen him if not the bar? Whether or not she was playing dumb, I didn't expect her to ask that question. If anything, she should have figured it out. “Come on, I'm only trying to make sense of your words here.” she said, shrugging a shoulder. “It doesn't make any sense that some minutes after you had another vision about him, he stops by at your bar.” “Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.” I replied. “It doesn't make any sense.” “So how did he find you?” she asked. “I have no idea, and he wouldn't say.” I said, putting a pillow on my laps as I settled on the couch. “So, what does he want from you?” the words seemed to drag themselves from her throat. “If he shows up now, then it means it's important.” “Yes. It's important. But I'm not going back to that pack.” I said, shaking my head. “Nothing will make me go back there.” “Wait… he wants you to return?” she arched a brow. “I mean, why?” “Something about raiders attacking his pack.” I shrugged. “But how has that got anything to do with me? I've a long list of problems to deal with, I don't want to add the pack to that list.” “What exactly does he want you to do?” she asked. “He wants my help for the same reason he rejected me, and the pack threw me out.” I mentioned, crinkling my face. “I mean, can you imagine?” “He wants you to use your vision to help them, is that it?” she asked even though she knew the answer in heart. “Yes, that's it.” I sighed, nodding my head. “He believes I can help them figure out the raiders next move, so that they can stop it.” “And will you?” “Are you kidding me right now?” I narrowed my gaze at the words. “So what? I'm just supposed to help him because he shows up in my bar? No, it doesn't work that way. I'm not going to help him.” “And why is that?” “I swore to have nothing to do with him or the pack again.” I spoke through my teeth. “I am not breaking that promise yet.” “Yeah. But that happened some years ago, didn't it?” she shrugged. “I mean, you can put all that behind you, and help him. Can't you?” “I can't.” I shook my head. “Besides, if I go any close to him, then I fear those visions will happen.” “The ones you see?” “Yes,” I nodded. “I have to stay away from him. That's the only way he can be alive.” “Come on, Selene. You've never really told me about those visions.” she said. “What exactly do you see?” “I don't think I'm ready to talk about it now.” I said. “I just can't.” “How long will you continue to hide it?” she asked. “Someday, you're going to have to deal with whatever it is.” “Yes. But that day is not today.” I said. “So, I don't want to talk about it.” “If he's here because his pack needs your help, then I don't think he's going to leave without you.” she said. “So, you're just going to have to deal with it.” “I keep seeing his blood on my hands.” I said, staring at my palms. “If he comes any close to me, or if I go any close to him, then he's going to die.” “Is that what you've been seeing?” she asked. “I mean, have you seen that same vision forty-seven times?” “Yes, I have.” I nodded. “So that's why I can't go any close to him. It's better this way. We have to stay away from each other.” “So what are you going to do now?” “I don't know.” I shrugged, blinking back tears while staring at my palms. “Things seem to have gotten worse.” “How do you mean?” Before saying a word to her, I glanced at the moon shaped mark on my wrist. The more I looked at it, the more it felt like I was going to lose my mind. Three years after he rejected me, now he happens to be my mate. I mean, I can't even go any close to him else, he's going to die. If anything, I don't want his blood on my hands. “Selene?” her voice broke in on my thought. “Are you going to tell me what's going on?” “This.” I said, showing her the mark on my wrist. “This isn't supposed to happen.” “What does the mark mean?” she lifted her face to me after looking at the mark. “And why isn't it supposed to happen?” “It means that we are fated to be together.” I said, trying to suppress the tears in my throat. “I mean, how can this be?” “Fated? Like being husband, and wife?” she asked. “Yes, something like that.” I nodded. “Wait if that's the case then… no way.” she gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. “How are you going to live with him?” “I don't know.” I said, staring at the mark. “I have no idea either.” “When did this happen?” she asked. “Is it just you, or the both of you?” “The both of us.” I said. “He knows what the mark means so he won't stop asking me to come with him.” “So what are you going to do?” “Run.” “What?” she crinkled her face. “I-I don't understand. What do you mean by you're going to run?” “I can't let this happen, Maya.” I said. “The pack already hates me. What do you think will happen when I accept to be his mate, and his dies, huh? They're only going to hate me the more.” “No, no. There has to be a way around this.” she said, blinking her eyes rapidly. “You don't have to run.” “Unfortunately, there is no other way around this.” I said, shaking my head. “I have to leave.” “So what? You're going to leave me all by myself, huh?” there was an edge to her voice. “What about your business? Who's going to run it when you're gone?” “You can take care of it Maya.” I said, looking into her eyes. “Dorian isn't going to return to the pack without me. And I can't let him die.” “No. D-Don't give me that look.” she said, blinking back tears. “You are not leaving this place. I'm not letting you out of my sight. I would rather you return to him to the pack than have you run to some place I don't know about.” “You know it's not possible to return with him to the pack.” “You would have to make it possible!” she raised her voice. “I can't have you leave here to some place I don't know. I won't.” “Maya—” “Don't call me.” she righted herself from the chair, and left the room. “Damn it!” I ran a hand through my hair. I didn't expect her to be happy with my decision. However, there was no other way to save us both — Dorian, and I. The only way to stop the vision of him dying in my arms was to stay far away from him as possible. I got up from the couch to go talk to her. Perhaps, she would listen to me. But before I could take a step from where I stood, the doorbell rang. Rather than going to her room, I turned to get the door. As I opened the door, and saw who was standing outside, my heart sank. “Not you again.”
