Chapter 04.
NOW OR NEVER!
Selene's POV.
“I need you to leave Dorian.” I said, turning back to face him after seconds of silence. “I don't want to see you.”
“J-Just listen to me, please.” he pleaded, pressing his palms together.
“I have listened to you, and I'm done listening to you!” I growled, forming my hands into a fist. “There is nothing more you have to say to me, so please leave.”
“There is something I need to tell you.”
“If you don't leave now, I'm going to call the cops.” I said, pointing towards the exit. “I am not joking, Dorian. This is different from your pack. I'm going to get you arrested if you don't leave.”
“Why are you doing this?” he asked, in a soft voice. “Even if you don't want to return for me, what about the pups? Does their life mean nothing to you? Can't you choose to save the pack because of them?”
“I owe that pack nothing.” I said, speaking through my teeth. “It is rather unfortunate that those pups have to suffer, but I don't care.”
“Then explain this.” he said, rolling up his sleeves as he revealed the mark on his wrist. “Does this not mean anything to you? Barely twenty minutes that I arrived at your bar, this mark appears on our wrist. This should mean something.”
“I am sorry, but it doesn't.” I said, shaking my head. “It is just another mistake like I was. So if there's any way to get rid of it, then I'd advise you to do that because I'll also get rid of my own.”
“That is what you think.” he said, rolling down his sleeves as he covered the mark. “But I don't think this is an accident. I rejected you once, and yet the moon goddess still chose you as my mate. Why do you think so?”
“Stop overthinking it.” I said. “Because this mark appears on our wrist doesn't make us mates.”
“What exactly is wrong with you!” his wolf purred as a flash of amber lighted his eyes. “We both know what this mark means. Denying it won't change anything.”
“Of course, it would!” I shot back, my eyes glittering with anger. “Don't you get it? I can't be your mate. You can't be my mate. We're bad for each other. So stop this madness. The moon goddess made a mistake.”
“What are you talking about?” he narrowed his gaze. “Why can't be we mates?”
“It is nothing.” my voice dropped. “I just know that we can't be mates.”
“Selene,” he called, taking a step forward. “What are you not telling me?”
“I am not hiding anything from you.” I replied, taking a step back from him. “Like I said, we can't be mates because we are bad for each other.”
“Explain to me what's going on!”
“You are going to die!”
“What?”
“Yes,” I swallowed hard, blinking back tears. “I have seen it over, and over again. I know how this ends. You're going to die.”
“No, that's not true.” he said, blinking his eyes in shock. “You must have seen wrong. There's no way I'm going to die.”
“My visions are never wrong, Dorian.” I said, shaking my head with tears in my eyes. “Everything I saw came true. And this wouldn't be any different. That's why I'm telling you that we can't be mates.”
“No, there must be some misunderstanding here.” he said. “If the moon goddess knew about this, then why mark us both as mates?”
“My question exactly.” I said, shrugging a shoulder. “Why make us mates? I have watched you die in my arms. Your blood on my hands. I don't think I'll be able to forgive myself if it happens.”
“I refuse to believe that.” he sniffled. “I need you to save my pack, and not to kill me.”
“Unfortunately, if I go with you, then you're going to die.” I said, looking into his eyes. “I am sorry. But I can't go with you. You'll just have to find another way to help your pack.”
“No, I'm not leaving you behind.” he said, his voice breaking with tears. “I came here to get you, and I'm not leaving without you. I don't care what you say. But you're going to help me save my pack.”
“What part of my words don't you understand?” I asked, shaking my head. “I can't go with you, Dorian.”
“Lies.” anger and nerves shook his voice. “You are only saying that to get rid of me.”
“No, she isn't.” Maya said, standing behind me. “Everything she say is true. I can't count the number of times she's saved me. So you have to believe her.”
“No. Believing her would mean leaving my pack to die, and I can't do that.” he said, looking at Maya. “I don't care if I die, I just need my pack to be safe.”
“Here,” Maya held up the calendar with one hand. “She has marked the days she gets the visions. Forty-seven days in total. You think that's a joke?”
“So, what?” he settled on the couch, and scrubbed his palms over his face. “I am just supposed to return home without a way to save the pack?”
“I am sorry, but that looks like the only option you have now.” she said, and then left the sitting room.
“I am sorry.” I said.
“No, this is between you and me.” he got up from the couch. “We will figure this out somehow, just come with me please.”
“Dorian—”
“Take a look at this.” he brought out his phone from his pocket, and turned the screen to me. “You see that? It's another threat from the raiders. They won't stop sending threats like this. So, please. Come with me.”
“I need you to give me some time to think about this.” I said. “If I'm going to come with you, then I'll have to put things in order before leaving first.”
“You are only using that as an excuse.” he figured. “The vision that you saw, when does it happen?”
“I don't know.” I shrugged. “I have no idea when it will happen.”
“Good. Because I'm sure it won't happen in the next few months.” he said with a desperate appeal in his eyes. “All I'm asking for is a week. After one week, you are free to come back here.”
For one, I'd no idea when the vision was meant to happen. But it didn't seem like it would happen the following week, or month. So, if he wanted one week from me, then it didn't sound so bad. I could afford that much.
“Still, I need to put a few things in order before leaving.” I insisted. “Perhaps, you can give me some days.”
“I hate to say this, but we don't have that much.” he said, shaking his head. “We need to leave immediately.”
“By immediately, you mean?” I arched a brow.
“Tonight.” he said. “We have to leave tonight.”
“I-I don't think that'll be possible.” I replied. “Who is going to watch over the bar while I'm away?”
“I will.” Maya's voice came from behind. “You don't have to worry about it. I'll keep an eye on it for you.”
“Maya, you've not been at the bar for weeks.” I said, turning back to face her. “I made a few changes. So, you might not be able to handle it.”
“Trust me, Selene.” she took my hand in hers, and looked into my eyes. “Just go help them. You've nothing to worry about. When you return, the bar will be the same like you never left.”
“Maya—”
The rest of the words died in my lips as I heard the horn of a car.
“Who is that?” I asked, looking out through the window. “Who did you bring with you?”
“You have nothing to worry about, it's Jael.” Dorian said. “He insisted on coming with me.”
Just then, the door creaked open, and Jael walked in.
“I am sorry to interrupt, but if we're leaving then we have to leave now.” he said, shifting his gaze from Dorian to me, and then back to him. “I just received news now from Karl that they saw some raiders close to the pack.”
“Selene, what do you say?” Dorian asked, looking into my eyes. “Will you help me save the pack?”
