“Sporting,” I answered, and his response was a rumble. He did not believe me. I removed my jacket to show him the numerous burns and scars on my back and down my arms. I turned my back to him and felt the air shift when he approached. His cold bony fingers touched my wounds and I cringed as he dug into them. “What was the creature that did this?” “A moondar.” “And you survived the attack?” “It was more of a challenge than an attack.” He whispered something I could not decipher. I attempted to pull up my jacket but he held it down. “I need to know where you are at all times.” He dug his brown nails farther into my injuries.
