Chapter 9Ronin That night, Connor had become deathly ill. She had a high fever and her shakes seemed to be worse than those she got when getting electrocuted. I had a mountain of blankets on her but she kept shivering. “Hang on, Connor. I called Tanikka and she's on her way. Can you hear me?” I sat next to her on the bed and her skin color was tomblike pale. “More…more…blan…kets,” she stuttered. “Take those blankets off her.” Mindalous rushed into the room with a bucket of ice. “But she freezing!” I yelled, watching her hurry over. “Move, boy.” She shoved me away and took my place next to Connor. “All those fevers you had as a child and you still don't get it.” She yanked back the blankets, exposing Connor's skin. “No, pleeeeze.” Connor gritted quivering teeth. “It hurts so badly.
