Ch. 5 New Home & the Nightmare

~~~~ ~~~~ Ten minutes go by and John comes back from the Alpha's office stating, "Most of the pack members are on the pack run so you'll be meeting them during dinner later. I'll take you to your cabin home, just as a reminder that if someone needs somewhere to live that they'll sleepover in the spare room in our lands and that you also have a guest room if ever needed to be used freely for your quests as well as for the pack when needed for gatherings." I nod while I pick up Walter letting him hug my neck and his coloring book in hand then turn with my hands full walking behind John. He turns and opens the front door and steps aside for me to take place in front of him. Once outside I ask, "What job openings are there in the pack that are available during the week except Saturday and Sunday?" While John gives it some thought I continue walking with him by my side. "Hmm... well we have an opening at Clay's diner and Jay's garage currently, plus adjustable hours if needed." "Okay, thanks for letting me know. Could you at one point introduce me next week, Monday I will be registering Walter to kindergarten at one of the local schools here." I say as we walk past a garden of flowers on our path and get a clear view of the side door to a cabin, I presume it will be ours, maybe. "Sure, I'll introduce you after you guys get some rest and we all have dinner together with the pack, and tomorrow is Saturday, so I'll come by with some other wolves to help unload your things from your truck." John says as we get closer to the door and he fishes out the keys from his pocket. The side door was just part of the cabin, it actually was bigger up close. Walking past the corner of the cabin was a beautiful pathway garden and across from the garden is a lake view, which isn't bad to let Walter learn to swim and play outside. I turn back to the cabin and continue walking to the front door and wait for John to reach, open the door with the key. 'Hmm... I guess I'll have to ask around at dinner time whether there is a child daycare program that I could put Walter in for after school while I'm going to be at work. I'll also need to get to know what job openings are at the dinner and garage and in my free time I could workout.' 'You could just ask, Ray.' -Silas says in a cocky tone. I roll my eyes at Silas and then look over at John as he continues to talk about the room and space in the cabin as he gets the door open. I ask quietly making sure not to wake Walter that's fast asleep in my arms, "Are the owners from the garage and diner going to be at dinner tonight? I would like to have an interview scheduled by next week and I'll worry about starting Walter's registration tomorrow." He looks back at me and tells me, "I already got you an interview with both of them but it wouldn't hurt to know them outside of work so yes, I'll introduce you tonight and I will give you a list later of the schools we have an opening in for Walter when I have the time. There should be furniture in the home so you should have no problem settling in to rest, I'll be back tomorrow to assist with moving your things." "Okay, thank you Beta John." I say and bow my head. "No problem, I'll be back to get you for the dinner gathering." He says and gives me the house keys and gets ready to leave. "Have a good evening and see you later Beta John." I put Walter on the couch in the living room and breathed a sign out loud. 'How much time has passed just to get to this point in time to live somewhat freely with each other.' I think as I look outside the window, 'It'll soon be time to prepare for training, Raymond', sigh 'I know Silas, I know.' I move to sit on the floor next to Walter's legs and close my eyes as I finally lose the battle to the darkness, as my body relaxes from exhaustion. ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** The howling of the wind sound and the cold brought my eyes to open with a twitch. Where are we?'First things first bring your attention to our surroundings.' We're in the dark at night, confusion washed over me as I came to realize, 'I was in the middle of the woods but where was the question.' I start walking forward as I look at the beautiful colors in the trees and plants from the brightness of light from the sun as it covers everything like a coat and as I turn around there are water drops all around sparkling, which is wonderful to the eye as I smile from the beauty of it all and beneath my bare feet I felt the soil and pebbles of rocks caught between my toes. I was surrounded by trees and a wonderful view of the mountains and yet 'as I scanned the desolate trees it seemed never ending for some odd reason.' The need to move started me forward though, and I felt a sharp ache all over, causing my body to flinch trying to fight against the change. 'Was I losing control of my body, somehow? What? Where?' My heart began pounding fast in my chest, the blood pumping through my veins loud and clear as day. Then as I look up at the trees -I hear a twig snap, catching my attention I look around trying to find the cause of the noise until- 'I smell them',Si says and it smells of a foul odor- 'ROGUE!' I close my eyes and listen real closely to the breath coming out of my mouth and the living things around me and the sound of paws running fast towards me that get me to open my eyes and get into a stance to attack and be ready to run if necessary. The running stops and I see that there is a group of six in total from their running and see that one wolf is in sight, probably to check out what I am and to assess the situation. But it really doesn't matter because Silas's alpha tone comes out, "By my command, SHIFT!!!" I know that my eyes show that Silas is in control now. "The one in charge, step forward and state your purpose in coming onto our lands." I say with my head tilted to the side with seriousness in my eyes as they glow which in turn causes the wolves to shiver. To which the wolves all groan and whimper as they try but fail to disobey my order, I look around waiting for the leader to step forward and state their business in front of me. The middle werewolf with brown curly hair and hazel eyes steps forward and says, "We have come to relay our Master the Blade of Cain's message: You tried so hard to keep him hidden from me, that I almost thought he didn't survive under your fathers care. I wanted so badly to see your reaction to getting my news of your brother's disappearance from under your nose and that he will be sacrificed under the new Blood moon soon, I hope you like my gift and come join me under these stars that watch over your home and mother. Hopefully you get here before your brother's execution. I'll be waiting for when we face each other, to finally know who will win in the end." As he finished speaking, "Grrrrrr"(I growled loudly) then he brings out a potion from behind him and out of nowhere he throws it up in the air and it explodes all over the rogue wolves and they all fall to the ground in agony, screaming in pain bleeding from all over their bodies into the mud as it starts to pour rain and I turn away because I already know that they are already dead and of no use for me, I start to walk away from the area starting to recite the message to memory and run at a pace back to the cabin ....where Walter should be. Returning in a panic to the house, I rushed in a hurry to Walters room but to my horror there were gruesome blood stains in the hallway to his room. What I smelled as I got closer was all too obvious and I felt the need to vomit... that motion put away and forgotten in an instant when the shuffling of feet rustled behind me. Panic.Anger. I turned around in a blur, my eyes wandering everywhere then landing on a rabbit on some torn cloth with blood on it. My stomach stirred in the slightest as I turned back to the bedroom door and was about to open the door when it stopped because of some sort of weight in the room. I pushed the door with the weight and turned on the light, I looked down at the floor where the weight is, Max? Indeed, he was the weight against the door, and no longer breathing. I wondered, maybe there were more things in the room that hadn't been revealed to the naked eye? Turning sharp on my heel, I let out a blood curdling screech as I came face to face with a shadow figure staring at me. A chill moving right through me and my bones like splintering ice. ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** Waking up with a jolt, my eyes blurry and screaming loudly frightening Walter as he shakes my shoulders my vision starts to clear and I see he's looking at me worriedly with fear in his eyes. I start to slow my breathing and hug him tight and calm down. After a few minutes I ask, "Why don't we go find something in the truck to wear for dinner, or do we want to just brush our teeth and hair then go?" looking at Walter as I move from my sitting position to standing and walking to the table center where my keys are placed. "I wanna brush-brush and go eat meat!" He replies, excitedly while jumping up and down and grabbing his coat, because we still have to go to the truck to get our tooth-brushes and stuff. "Alright, then let's go to the truck." I chuckle and say as I look down at my wrist watch to see that it's already 5:40 pm so I get my hoodie to go out. We walk outside and see that the truck was moved to the front of the cabin. I see an envelope on the windshield and go to open the front driver's door and the keys are in the envelope and a note that says, "Dearly, New Pack Member I am happy to announce that we invite you to the pack house for dinner and get to know you better as you enter our community and establish friendships and joining our family. I sincerely hope you get the chance to talk with me at dinner or just in passing, I am Luna Mary and hope you had no trouble while travelling to the pack. Again I sincerely invite you to have a conversation with me whenever you get the chance dear. Signed Luna Mary Smith " ~~~~ ~~~~ Hmm, I guess I'll be having a meeting with the Luna later this evening. I helped Walter get our tooth-brushes and got back into the cabin and once we're done, we walk through the side of the cabin, the way we came before while I carry him in my arms and as we walk we enjoy the sight before us of the gardens and flowers as well as the beautiful view of the sky. It was mesmerizing, as I think this someone shouts, "Watch out, behind you!!!" My senses tell me to back-flip and I do so with my eyes closed with one arm holding Walter in place and my right hand to support us as I flip and land. When I open my eyes again I see that what was supposed to hit us from behind was a bat. As I look down I see a small teenager looking terrified at me and I noticed that Walter's been clutching my shoulders and shaking. "Shhhh...shhhh, it's alright Walter we are okay." I say, as I rub his back and then look back at the teenager that started to walk closer and he says, "I'm -I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to. Really. I was trying to hit the ball." While looking down his ears red with embarrassment and evident on his face. "It's alright buddy, what are you doing playing with a bat this late?" I ask as I get closer and nudge his chin up so that he may look at me. He looked straight into my eyes and said, "I'm practicing for tryouts next week." "That's cool, what's your name? I'm Raymond but you may call me Ray." "I'm Max, who's that?" He says, while pointing at Walter still in my arms. "This here is Walter, and I call him Walt." I say with a smile. Then I look around and notice that he's out here by himself so I ask, "Would you like to join us as we walk to the pack house for dinner?" "Sure, I can be your guide!" He says, excitedly. Which puts a grin on my face. "Why thank you, Max. We would be lost without meeting you on our way there." It takes about ten minutes to get to the front door and with Max being a chatter box was a good companion to pass the time. He made Walter laugh a bit and he relaxed in his presence. ~~~~ ~~~~
