It's Sunday morning and Liz is awakened by a song on her phone. "Mmm, who's calling at this time?" she mumbles not totaly awake yet.. She ignores the call and turns over in bed.
Last months she had trouble falling asleep and the only thing that sometimes helped was an evening in the bar with a whiskey . She doesn't know what time she went to bed last night and exactly how she got home. She does remembers that cute blond girl.. Mmm that was fun.
The phone rang again and Liz, growling, picked it up from her nightstand.
She runs her hand through her hair and removes it from her face.
"My head hurts," she thinks.
She looks at the screen and sees 'David Grey'. "Oh sh*t why is he calling" she mumbles.
She’s trying to remember the last time she spoke to him but she doesn’t recall it. David is her old captain from the police force and they have a lot of respect for each other. Even when she decided to quit her job, they stayed in touch.
He always seems to be looking after her and sometimes she does appreciates this and sometimes it irritates her.
"Hey David, what can I do for you, you know it's Sunday morning right?"
'Hi Liz, does this matter to you? Last time I looked you didn't have a job' David jokes.
"Aah, f*ck off man!" says Liz.
'Haha, take it easy tiger.. Haven't spoken for a while, everything okay?'
'Yes, it's fine, you know how it goes' said Liz casually
“It's not ‘fine’, Liz, and you know it. I understand you wanted something different after Jack died but it's not your fault Liz, I...'
'Stop, Dave.. If you call for this, we'll be done in no time. I have to process things at my own pace. I admit I may not be handling it in the best way right now, but I'm working on it and I don't want listen to the same story over and over.' says Liz, somewhat irritated.
“Calm down, Lizzy.. .. The reason I'm calling is because I have a job for you. And before you interrupt me let me explain first” said David carefully “A good friend of mine is running for senator and it looks like he's going to win the election, but his view isn't supported by everyone. In particular, his anti-drug- and gun policies. He already has a team of security personnel around him, but recently he also received threats around his daughter. And as these threats increase, he wants security for her to and specifically a female bodyguard. He called me and asked if I knew reliable persons and you get the idea; I immediately thought of you.. So what do you think?”
Liz does not immediately have an answer to his question, but then mumbles "Me? As a bodyguard? Is this a joke?"
David chuckles and says, 'Well I've actually thought it through quite a bit, you're one of the best cops I've worked with, you have an eye for danger, you're strong, fast and you don't back away from a challenge. I also think that this is a good way for you to get back in the game, but the decision is up to you'
Liz feels overwhelmed and doesn't quite know what to do with this offer. She looks around in her room and sees her clothes from last night scattered all over the floor
“I need to think about it Dave, I'll let you know okay?"
"Fine, I want your answer before the end of the day. He wants an answer quickly.. Just send me a message or give me a call. Bye Lizzy, speak to you later” and David ends the call.
Liz sighs in frustration and puts the phone away. Her thoughts turn to the conversation; Would a job as a bodyguard suit her?
The reason why she stopped being a cop is emerging and she has to shake the afwul feelings away.. David was right it wasn't her fault that Jack, her partner, had died but she will never forget the feeling of powerlessness she felt.. That moment where she was so close but couldn't do anything to stop his dead.. Liz shakes her head "Stop it, Liz" she thinks "a senator's daughter.. Maybe this job will give me the confidence I need again” and without thinking too much she picks up her phone again and texts David; "I'll do it, just send me the file".
