EVEY'S POV
"Everly, I have a hot horny werewolf looking for his mate. What do I tell him?" Did I mention that April loves making me uncomfortable? Luckily, there is nobody in the shop at this hour since we are about to close for the day.
I turn around, and Drew is looking embarrassed by April's very out of place comment, but he smiles as soon as he sees me.
"Hey," I tell him.
"Hey," He responds back, with a smile.
"His wolf has been impatient waiting to see us." I am kind of jealous that my wolf has this great connection with his wolf, and I don't.
"I had to come see the Alpha, and I didn't want to leave without seeing you." He tries to make an excuse. Which causes me to smile.
"Well, it is time for me to leave, Erik will be back from work soon, and I want to be ready for him. He has a big appetite. You don't need me, do you, Everly? Mr. Hot here can take you home, is not too dark yet." April really needs to learn when to make her comments.
"My name is Andrew. I will make sure that Evey makes it home safely, " He tells April, just barely taking his eyes off me to talk to her and putting them back on me right after. My heart is going to come out from beating so fast.
"Let me take you to dinner. Is there a restaurant in town that you would like to go to?" His smile is not faltering, and his blue eyes are almost piercing my soul just by the way he is looking at me.
"Th..There is..." What the hell is wrong with me? "There is a diner that opens 24 hours. We can go there if you like. The food is decent." We don't have much in town. There are a few clothing shops in downtown, a convenient store, Dr. Smother's clinic, my shop, and the little diner. Our town, although big in land, is very small in population. Very few want to become warriors, and others work the land. Its produce is sold to a few neighboring packs, and the rest is to be used within the pack.
I have to admit that I love Drew's surprise visit. It makes me feel giddy inside. I just wish I was more prepared to go out. I am only wearing a pair of leggings and a shirt, I didn't fix my hair much today, It is just tied on a ponytail with not much effort. I wish he didn't have to see me like this.
ANDREW'S POV
I had to see my mate. My wolf was driving me crazy. I feel that I am letting Colt down. He doesn't have the head to be taking care of the pack and I have been subbing, but I also want to be with my mate, I have been coming for the past three days, but this can't continue like this.
"Just convince her to move in with us. She obviously doesn't want to reject us. She wants us near." My wolf has been nagging me about our mate coming with us. I don't know how to tell her because she is not ready and I don't want to scare her away.
"Maybe you can tell her during dinner. With any luck, she will be coming home with us tonight." Let's just hope he is right.
I helped her close her little shop and waited for her to get ready to leave.I could tell she was nervous to be seen in public and I knew why, I don't think the pack members here are very fond of her. I could smell the fear as we walked in the small diner. We went straight to the last booth, away from everyone's eyes. She was definitely uncomfortable, and it wasn't because she was with me, no, it was because she knows people are afraid of who she is and what she can do, and because for years they have judged her and she has felt the guilt over losing her first mate. The Alpha told me that she came here after becoming an orphan. Her parents were murdered and she was found covered in blood walking through the woods, but she doesn't remember what went on. She had been suffering her whole life, blaming herself for everything that's happened in her life. It doesn't help that everyone else decided that she is guilty. My poor mate, but I will make sure that she knows that is not her fault.
"I hope it is alright with you to sit here. I just don't like all the stares everyone gives me. They have increased since my shift." She tells me, looking down.
I don't like that she feels like this is not fair. I lift up her chin, making her look at me. Her sparkling blue eyes have a hint of sadness.
"You don't need to feel ashamed. Your wolf is the most beautiful anyone has seen. I don't know if it is as powerful as it is said to be, but I don't care. All I care about is you. Those people who judge you will need your help eventually, and they will learn that you are more than a prophecy. Don't let them dictate how you feel. You are strong, and they will find out." I try to encourage her. I never want her to feel like she is undeserving of great things.
The little pep talk seemed to work because the rest of the dinner, she looked happy and relaxed. We talked about how she became a healer after losing her first mate, and how she likes using different plants to create remedies to help others. The knowledge of plants and how to use them almost came natural to her. She somehow just knows what to mix, and the end result always turns out to be exactly what she needs it to be.
'Why don't you show me around the town, I still have some time to spare, and I would love to see your favorite places." I suggest after dinner. It is early and I want to spend as much time as possible with her.
"Is already dark, There is nothing to do in town during the evenings. Is pretty quiet. We should just go back." Is it me, or is she always nervous when it starts to get dark? I am not going to push her. She will tell me about it once she trusts me completely. I hope.
I park in front of her house and get out to open the door for her. She smiles at me as I take her hand to help her out.
"Do you want to come in?" She asks me. I don't think twice and nod and walk with her to the small porch. The many flowers that she has decorating the exterior seem to greet her a she walks by, they move towards her as if the wind was guiding them to her, I don't know if I'm imagining it but it looks like the flowers want to reach out to her with their leaves, like stretching towards her wherever she passes.
"So this is what it came to? You get a new mate, and suddenly, Shay doesn't exist anymore? Was he that easy to forget? Maybe you never loved him." We both turn around at the same time, and the same girl from the other night is standing at the bottom of the steps looking upset.
I can't help it when I let a menacing growl out. It is clear that this girl has something against my mate, and I will not allow her to disrespect her.
My mate puts a hand on me trying to calm me, but I can tell she is stressed.
"Ellie, is not like that. I love Shay, I could never forget him. Please believe me." I shouldn't feel jealous or upset, but her words hurt me deep. My wolf also feels sad by her confession. I thought we were making progress.
