The interview

344 Words
With the hum of the elevator, I’m holding my CV, looking at the ceiling, full of anxiety. I’ve never been good in interviews, I always get my “mucking words fuddled”. “you can do this Avery, you topped your class, your going to be a great nurse” talking to myself like a nut, I’m trying to convince myself, if only that was working for me. With a “ding” the elevator doors open, stepping out, I look at the sign pointing left. “hi, I’m Avery Crain, I have an 9o'clock interview” my eyes are wide, a look of pure fear, I feel the receptionist judging me “take a seat, Dr Coolie won’t be a moment” directing me to the grey plastic chairs that line the wall. I feel like a kid waiting for the principals office. Bouncing my knee up and down with rapid speed, I put my hand on my knee to still my leg... “nervous are we?” startled, I look up to meet large hazel eyes. “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t” I c***k a small tight lipped smile as I stand with my hand extended. Taking my hand, a firm shake, Dr Coolie directs me to his office. “You have your CV?” he asks as I take my seat. “yes” I pass it me him. He looks it over before he sits, then lays it open on the desk. “I spoke to your friend, Sarah.... she spoke highly of you” I hope this is a good thing.... “you passed with distinctions in all aspects of your study, and your on the job training has been impeccable” Dr Coolie is smiling with his eyes as he put his hand out to me, “you’ll come in on Monday, and we can finalise all the admin paperwork, and get you on the roster” shaking my hand, “thank you so much Dr Coolie, I can’t wait to start”
