Chapter 1 : The Shadow Throne
The darkness crept in like a living entity, shrouding the kingdom of Tenebrous in an eternal twilight. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the sprawling city of Umbra, where shadows danced upon the walls like restless spirits.
In the heart of the city, the Shadow Palace loomed, its black stone façade seemed to absorb the faint moonlight. Within its walls, the King of Tenebrous held court, his power unyielding and absolute. For a century, he had ruled with an iron fist, his supernatural strength and magic crushing any opposition.
King Xandros, the Dark One, sat upon his throne, his piercing gaze surveying the assembly of courtiers and advisors before him. His eyes burned with an otherworldly energy, a reminder of the ancient power that coursed through his veins.
"Your Majesty," a trembling voice interrupted the silence. "The tribute from the human settlements is late. Shall we... shall we send a reminder?"
Xandros's gaze settled upon the speaker, a minor noble who quaked beneath his scrutiny. "I will not be bothered with such trivialities," the king said, his voice low and menacing. "See to it that the tribute is collected. I have more pressing matters to attend to."
As the noble scurried away, Xandros's thoughts turned to the upcoming Blood Moon festival, a celebration of the supernatural beings' dominance over the human population. He would need to make an appearance, to show the humans that his rule remained unchallenged.
But Xandros's mind wandered, drawn to the whispered rumors of a new maiden, a human woman said to possess a beauty and spirit that rivaled the gods. He had requested her presence at the festival, and he would not be denied.
The king's eyes narrowed, his thoughts consumed by the prospect of this mysterious woman. What would she be like? Would she tremble before him, or would she dare to defy him?
The darkness within the palace seemed to grow thicker, as if it too sensed the approaching change. Xandros's power stirred, restless and hungry, anticipating the arrival of the maiden who would soon enter his realm...
