The Big Bad Wolf

You’re out of your mind Kaden, Nina says as her brother continues to pace back and forth. You can’t just go on a killing spree, Kaden. “I can and I will” The wolf says more than Kaden.  Kaden can let his wolf surface but still be in human form. Only a few can be that strong. Kaden and his wolf are in perfect sync, though. Scary when you think that Kaden is as bad as the wolf but I guess in reality he is. We were born to be beasts. Not puppy’s being played with.

Well, we need a starting point, Kaden; we can’t just start by killing people. “That’s how we will get answers”. He runs his hand through his hair. “Fine, I will give you all twenty-four hours. After that, I make no promises.” I will find a lead on Kaden. “Thanks Nina.”

Just then a text comes through my phone. I open it, hoping it is news, but it’s a weird photo of a building overgrown by weeds. As I study the photo, another text comes through.

What in the hell I growl? Everyone comes running into the kitchen where I was standing.  “What is it Kaden?” Oak says. They want 2 million for the gps location of this!  I had my phone over for them to see.  Nina gasps.  “What is that”? She points to the picture. Blow that up. There is a wolf in the background lying by the side door of the building. So it’s guarded with only one wolf. The wolf laughs. That will not be any fun.

Elaina, I am sending you the image and see if there is anywhere near here or the surrounding territories that look like that from the maps internet. It looks to be on slop in the mountains. Probably very secluded.  

Oak; call a meeting with the other Alphas that are within a 200-mile radius. I want to see if anyone acts strange and I want them all to know when I find this man I will tear him apart and anyone who tries to stop me.

Nina; you’re on the money.  “Which account?” I don’t care. Just get it. “Okay”

I sit on the bar stool and pour myself a strong drink, trying to calm the wolf. Oak returns to the room and lets me know the meeting is tonight, 9pm giving everyone time to get here.  Good, it’s settled then.

I look at the clock; it is 2pm and it’s now been almost two full days without her and I am losing it. That’s bastard better not be laying a finger on her. The wolf says. I know wolf. I am scared for her too. He whimpers and eases back out of my mind. I know he is struggling with this as much as me. I go over to turn the news on trying to take my mind off of the events today but I can’t seem to think of anything else so I go to work. I grab a file and go to work.  I write down everything I can remember about the investigation. The wolf that attacked Lexi on my territory, everything. I wrote the wolf off as rouge, but now I’m not so sure. He had a scent blocker on that day. But most rouge have access to that stuff because it helps them enter territories without detection so they can steal. What if that wolf came back and followed us home to my house?  I go back outside and walk the edges of my property, looking for anything that we may have missed.  Only to find nothing.  Something isn’t right. I think to myself something is off. Why leave a scent this time?

Then it hits me. He didn’t expect me to leave her alone.  He acted out of opportunity.  I gave him a f*****g opportunity. Elaina mind links and say she has something, I move with my wolf speed to get back to the house. Here she says handing me a printed view of a cabin just outside of the Dark moon territory. I can’t get close enough to tell 100% but this is very similar. I waste no time. I let wolf take over and head toward the territory, not bothering to warn them I am coming with Oak not far behind.  As we enter the territory, two guards are waiting in wolf form but sprint the other direction when they see my wolf. I would run too if he wasn’t part of me.  I continue past the pack house, not stopping to explain myself. I will deal with Gage later. I reach the part of the land that has no owner and stop. I sniff the air, trying to determine her whereabouts. I catch a faint scent of her and the wolf heads in the direction.

Lexi

I hear the little boy please don’t hurt her. Dad; please your drunk! I know my time here is going to drastically change.  The door is flung open and he grabs me hard, pulling my body up against his. You will be mine. I ask them to pay me for you back, but they just ignored my text messages. So now I will give them exactly what they want you. But I will deliver you in many pieces. What I say. Why are you doing this? I am nothing to them. I must work for them. “Stop lying bitch.” I know you’re f*****g Kaden. Puts his lips on mine so hard I am sure he busts my lip. I try to struggle against his assault but I can’t this man is strong. Inhuman strong. So I do the best thing I can I talk. Please, I am not sleeping with Kaden. I never have. I work for him and that’s it. He seems to think for a minute. Thank god he let me go. He pushes me back against the wall and puts both hands on each side of my head. Then why were you living with him. “I was injured on the job my first day. He was taking care of my injuries. That’s it, I had a separate bed and everything”.  You are lying. I saw the two of you on his couch asleep together. “Yeah, we fell asleep watching tv. It was very awkward the next morning. Trust me”.  This man is beyond drunk, so I keep talking in a calm voice while answering his questions. He seems to get calmer by the minute. Do you even know who you’ve been staying with? He asks.” Kaden Lance my boss”. Oh no, he isn’t just Kaden Lance, he says with venom in his voice. He is the big bad wolf. He will blow your house down. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. He only pays my salary, sir. I don’t know his personal business”. I remind him. Oh, he cares for you. I have never seen him care for anything, but he cares for you. I have waited years for this moment, to take what Kaden Lance cares about and ruin it, just as he did to me. Sir, I say with a shaky voice. I really am nothing to him. I am fighting tears at this point. I am nothing to Kaden Lance. He suddenly backs up and turns to leave, looking at his watch. I will find out soon enough the truth. I have a meeting to attend, but I will return and we will continue our kiss. Why does everybody talk about these people as if they are part wolf? Oh My God! Could werewolves be real? I think I have a concussion.

Kaden

I reach the building from the map, but no one is inside. I look to the sun and know I need to turn back now if I am going to make the meeting I called. I mind link Oak and tell him to turn back. Dead end. Not even a clue. It didn’t look as if anyone had inhabited that place for a hundred years. She has been through here, though. Her scent is still lingering. The only problem is it was everywhere, not just in a line. It was in the trees, in in the air, on the soil. I have never experienced that before. This guy went to great lengths to cover the direction he went. I head back for the meeting and pray to the moon goddess that I can get a lead.
