Going Out

Alexis — After I had finished submitting my application I decided to dedicate myself to eating my pizza. I had to admit it tasted so much better now that I had already started to execute my plan. I started looked around to see if I could find Jenny again. But the place was even more crowded than when we had first gotten here. Just as well for me, I will not be noticed with all the people here. I was not planning on having small talk with anyone tonight. — Jackson — It seemed like a long day at the office. At least the way that Ryan was complaining. After our visit with Mr. Cooper, we had a lot of catch up to do. At least I did, Ryan was more like a glorified assistant. He signed the papers I told him to and occasionally went to other companies to obtain signatures from executives. That was one thing he was good for, public relations with our associates. That was one thing that I didn’t enjoy doing, small talk was such a waste of time, at least my time. “Jackson, we’ve been here all day,” complained Ryan. “I’m pretty sure missing half a day of work does not require us to stay all night.” “You can leave,” I said to him without looking up. I was trying to get to the end of this paperwork witting on my desk. I had a meeting tomorrow. “I can’t just leave you here like this. You need to get a life outside of this building. I mean I don’t even know why you have a home, considering you practically never leave here.” Said Ryan as he flipped through a few of my files. “If I don’t do it, does that mean that you are offering to finish it for me?” I asked raising an eyebrow. “You know Jackson, that’s why we hire assistants, and other employees, so that they can help with the paperwork,” he said handing me back the files. “You know, it’s really quite selfish of you.. you are taking someone’s job away.” I’m not quite sure who Ryan thought he was talking to. I was not someone that would be easily manipulated. Especially someone like Ryan. It might work alright on Grandfather, but that’s just because he’s Grandfather’s favorite. “What exactly were you wanting Ryan?” I asked him. “I’m super hurt, just because I’m offering to keep you company right now. I must be wanting something?” He said dramatically. “I am just super worried about your health, you know you’re not even twenty-three yet and you’re starting to look old. Like you belong at one of Grandfather’s events with his friends. This would be the last thing I want for my cousin.” Obviously he wasn’t going to be leaving me alone anytime soon. I finished the file I was on and then started to pack them all away. Ryan saw it and a smile started to form on his face. “Alright! I’ll have the driver come around and pick us up! Tonight you are going to be my wingman,” said Ryan. Then he paused and looked at me. “Actually, tonight I am going to be your wingman. It’s about time you had a girlfriend.” “I have no interest and no time for a girl right now,” I said bluntly. “She would be worse than having you around.” “You just haven’t found the right girl yet,” said Ryan. “And where exactly are planning to find a girl?” I asked him, not that I was interested in his ideas at all, I just wanted to get this over with, so I can get home and finish what needs to be done before my meeting tomorrow morning. “Fine, but you have to promise you will try to have fun tonight, maybe not scare off all the girls,” he said to me. “If you can’t smile, at least don’t scowl.” He shook his head disapprovingly at me. I really could not care less about what girls thought about me. As a matter of fact I got tired of the women trying to throw themselves at me just because I was a Thorn. I was not one of those men that was blinded by a pretty face. “Ok then, we’re going to my favorite club tonight. It is pretty exclusive, so there shouldn’t be any troubles there, most of the people there are part of prestigious families. So they also make sure gossip doesn’t start there. The perfect place for my difficult cousin to learn to unwind and have a little bit of fun!” I rolled my eyes at him, but got up anyways. Ryan doesn’t give up when he has made up his mind. And apparently he made up his mind to annoy me. The driver met us downstairs and he took us to the club that Ryan was talking about. At first glance it looked like any other noisy place. Lots of people waiting outside to be let in. I shook my head, what a waste of time, spending a whole night hoping to be let into a place, that I personally didn’t even want to be at. We got out of the limo and headed to the front door. The man at the front saw Ryan and gave him a nod while opening the door for us. Apparently Ryan comes here enough that the employees know him. Whatever, at least he didn’t expect me to wait outside. Once we were inside, the only thing I could think about was how loud it was in here. The music, the people, everything was distracting. Ryan seemed to be searching for someone though. He kept looking around and seemed distracted. “Did you want to get a drink or some food?” He asked me. “We can eat up at the bar or grab a table.” “How long are you planning on being here?” I asked him. I refused to stay here any longer than it took me to have a drink and some dinner. Even though from the looks of this place, I highly doubt that the food would be any good. “We just got here Jackson,” he complained. “You can’t possibly be planning on leaving already?” I’m not quite sure why he asked me that. He knows that’s exactly what I was planning on doing. He was lucky I came here at all with him. He should not be pushing his luck. “Ok, let’s just at least have some dinner first,” he said. “Fine, but I’m sitting in the back. This place is much too noisy and annoying,” I told him. “But we won’t be able to see anything if we sit in the back,” Ryan complained. “Exactly,” I said. “Fine, let me order us some food and you find a table,” he said as he headed for the bar. I went to the back and took a seat in a booth that was more hidden in the corner. Maybe I would get lucky and Ryan wouldn’t find me either. As I was sitting I pulled my phone out to answer some emails. A couple minutes later Ryan sat down and brought a couple of drinks with him. “What is it?” I asked him. “Don’t worry, it’s just a coke, I know that you can’t handle alcohol,” he said to me. “I have a some burgers and fries coming over, they said that it shouldn’t be more than fifteen minutes.” Good, it looks like we will be out of here in under an hour. Even though he kept up with small talk that I was mostly ignoring, I could see that he was scanning the room. “Who are you looking for?” I asked him. I think I startled him. Because he started coughing. “Oh, I was just looking for a suitable girl for you,” he replied. “Then we might as well leave right now,” I said to him. I started to get up. “Fine, fine, sit back down. I’ve seen a girl here a few times. I haven’t had a chance to actually meet her though, she’s always with a different guy,” he said to me. “Fine, but I’m leaving in an hour, it’s up to you if you stay or go,” I said to him. “Alright, let me go check on our burgers,” he said to me. I’m sure he just wanted to get a better view to see if he could find the girl he was looking for. I put my phone away. I wonder why a place like this called so many people. As I was looking around my eyes landed on a girl, she was sitting alone at one of the tables in the back. She had her head down glued to her phone. For some reason I found myself curious about her. Maybe because she was off alone in the back, not the kind of scene I’m used to seeing.
