When I looked up, I saw a smile on Serena’s face and stared at her in surprise.
Why was she smiling?
“I have a confession to make too.” She said, “I appreciate that you’re honest with me, and now I want to be honest with you. I’ve been in love with our Beta for years. We’ve had a secret relationship for a long time because I was afraid of what my father would do if he found out.”
I didn’t know why, but her words ignited some hope inside of me.
“Please say something.” Serena pleaded, her eyes wide with fear and I realized that I was still staring at her.
“What if we’re mates, but we’re not actually supposed to be together?” I asked. “I mean, you’re a nice girl and all, but I haven’t felt that legendary feeling of love at first sight when I met you.”
Serena’s eyes lit up excitedly.
